Where are we shopping for maternity clothes this season ladies?

Hi

I started the dreaded shop for mat clothes but was fairly optimistic remembering the lovely flowing tops or tunics from last season...only to find tighter fitting styles (you know the ones, that attract the unwelcome belly rubbers like magnets) or pretty patterned tops with an extra frilly bottom to that you gran could mistake for regurgitated net curtains from yesteryear as they look horrid.

As u can tell my shopping spree didn't go well.....

I did some online shopping but even then the style is still the same. I can get away with my own jeans or trousers if I use a bump band but tops...I'm really struggling with. Buying non mat clothes in bigger styles doesn't work as too big for back, arms etc.

Needless to say I returned empty-handed and drowned my sorrows in a decaff latte with a belgian bun, not productive but yummy Grin

Help! Where are u ladies finding great buys?

Hi

I started yesterday as well. Soft jeans from Neu Look for 15.99 was a great deal less than every where else I saw.

H&M has nice cotton shirts ...

JimmyChoo17 · 13/02/2011 09:48

Trying h&m this week I usually find some nice bits in there. When I wasn't pregnant I used to pick bits up in that section by accident...woops. Not got local one so am tackling that journey this week.

I am only 5 foot and new look jeans usually fit me well but their mat jeans in same size fit totally different on my legs, did u find that darling damsel?

Do they cover mat clothes at the baby show does any one know? Am going this Saturday so wondering if it's worth waiting or whether it's bot really the right place?

Tricky isn't it? I'm still managing to wear some of my tunic style non-maternity tops and jumper dresses but now wearing completely maternity bottoms and mostly maternity tops.

Tops wise I've got some stretchy jersey scoop necks from Next which I'm layering with non-mat lacey vests and non-mat little cardigans. I've also got a nice striped top from Mothercare, a jersey top from JoJoMaman Bebe and a thick military style cardigan from the Next sale.

Nicest things I've found have been Mamas and Papas. Have you looked there JimmyChoo?

JimmyChoo17 · 13/02/2011 10:05

Prob sounds daft but I thought those companies were more baby clothes and nursery etc.

I'll have a look thanks.

Mostly I've looked at next and usual high street stores to try and stay looking in style rather than wearing what I have seen in maternity stores. I did look at mother care I think but nothing to my style or again the more fitted style. Out of work it's easier as can shop fairly cheaply for clothes and accessorize but at work I can't always wear pretty scarfs or necklaces due safety when I'm out on visits.

Oh to be a celeb and look demure in whatever I squeeze my thighs in Confused

Very tricky indeed!!! Plus there is a little reluctance to spend

Biden has just launched a range of maternity clothes. I think I remember seeing some tunics.

Darlingdamsel · 13/02/2011 10:25

The Neu Look jeans are bootleg, which works great for me as I am curvey. But they are wide legged, even for my taste.

I can def. see your issue.

MummyBerryJuice · 13/02/2011 10:27

Boden obv.

knittymum · 13/02/2011 11:41

Have a look at www.affordablematernity.co.uk/ - I bought my SIL a drapey top there a few days ago, as she doesn't want fitted tops either. And if I get my BFP this week, I think I'll have a look too!

JimmyChoo17 · 13/02/2011 11:47

Thanks knitty!! Fingers crossed hope to see a bfp announcement soon!

I've found some nice pieces online at Asos (www.asos.com/Women/Asos-Maternity/Cat/pgecategory.aspx?cid=5813, also check out the sale items: www.asos.com/Women/Clearance/Maternity/Cat/pgecategory.aspx?cid=6413). It's a bit annoying to not get the chance to try things on before buying, but they've got a huge range compared to the high street shops and it's actually fairly easy to exchange or return items.

I've also found a few good pieces for work at Gap (they usually stock the maternity pieces in Baby Gap).

I've been ogling some summery things at Jojo Maman Bebe but haven't bought anything yet!

Also, if you want some maternity lingerie that isn't frumpy or boring, Hot Milk is fantastic but a bit pricey. Google it to find the UK stockists.

Hope this helps!

SerenaJoy · 13/02/2011 12:05

I bought a pair of jeans from Jojo Maman Bebe that were HIDEOUS. They were proper soccer-mom jeans - even DH (completely disinterested in anything I use to hide my naked body) recoiled in absolute HORROR when he saw me in them. So I've not been back there. The memory of the Mom Jeans is still too fresh.

The best stuff I've bought so far has been from New Look and Dorothy Perkins. NL Jeans for £15.99 (half the price of the Mom Jeans), that fit me perfectly. Wonder if they're the same as yours Darlingdamsel?!

JimmyChoo17 · 13/02/2011 12:08

15.99 were the same price I was looking at...had the pull over bump band. They were ok apart from the baggy legs but a size down was too small.

Will check out all above posts thanks ladies, least it's not just me x

seraphine is good
also like H&M and top shop which is a bit less pricey

Sparklies · 13/02/2011 13:18

If you don't mind slumming it for basics, Peacocks and Matalan aren't too bad for things like vests, leggings etc. Given you won't be wearing them for that long it doesn't matter if they don't last that long! Again, on similar lines, George at Asda can be reasonable too.

Most stuff I've ended up getting from Next, New Look, Mothercare or Dorothy Perkins and a few things from Jojo Maman Bebe in the sale.

Valiant1 · 13/02/2011 14:24

ok ladies i am a normal size 24 so am struggling to find maternity clothes have looked on ebay and only found three things!!!

oggybags · 13/02/2011 17:16

topshop - great for shorties like me with their 30 leg jeans, and lovely pretty tops
H&M for basic jersey tops & leggings
asos for dressees / occassion wear etc
next for tankinis (in the hope that nice tankini = motivation to swim)
riverialand for big flaoty non mat tops in nice prints just could of sizes bigger
TOMS pumps for total comfort & helping kids - ideal for last trimester fat feet!

YogaMummy2B · 13/02/2011 22:57

Mamalicious is great for bottoms, I got bootleg jeans, black skinny jeans, black leggings and black jeggings from them - can find on ASOS. I also love my Isabella Oliver tops, got a plain white scoop and black scoop and wear them with my non maternity cardigans and a nice scarf (always got loads of nice compliments.)
H&M do some great basics to dress up. French Connection have a range on ASOS that looks lovely and the new Boden maternity also looks yum. At 34 weeks I'm not buying anything else but seems to be some nice stuff out there.
I also bought a few bits and bobs of regular items that can be kept open over plain tops so I wasn't always in maternity gear.
Happy shopping.
Ps. I got denim jeggings from Seraphine and detested them! They kept falling off, I'm more of an over the bump kinda girl, feels a lot more secure!!

MrsBakerNeeld · 14/02/2011 08:21

For those on a budget, peacocks has a decent range of mat jeans if you go to one of the bigger branches.

nomoreheels · 14/02/2011 09:41

I've been living in leggings, over the bump jeans & wrap dresses.

Over the bump leggings from Topshop were £14, very soft & stay in place. I also have some under the bump leggings from New Look that I wasn't sure about, but they're great too & stay put.

My DP kindly got me an Isabella Oliver wrap top in the mini sale they had, so it was £58 instead of £75. It's a bit complicated to put on (& comes with no instructions) but looks fab once on. You can get them on eBay if you are persistent - they are very popular at auction. I love how it shows off my bump & I can cover down to my hips.

Also live in a "wrap" dress from m&s maternity, it looks like a wrap style but it actually all in one with a tie at the back. Great value at £25 & looks v elegant.

I also love 3/4 fitted bodycon dress tops with leggings, was able to wear some pre P ones & got a lovely patterned one from H&M for £15. They look great with those long draped cardigans too.

Personally I feel much more feminine by wearing fitted things that show off my bump. Not had anyone touch me without asking either. (Stil 3.5 months to go though!) I got what looked like a lovely tunic dress from the sale at Jojo Bebe, it is beautifully made but looks a right sack of potatoes on.

duckmum · 14/02/2011 13:09

Got bits from mamas and papas as we have an outlet store not far away. The vest tops have been great to go under everything. Picked up really nice non flowery tops for £12 and cardis etc. so lots of mix and match, lot less than they normally are. Got a staple pair of jeans from Mothercare which were best fitting for me but I think jeans is always trial and error! Jojo mama bebe was good for comfy bottoms which are a cross between pjamas and tracksuit bottoms and very comfy. Also basic pair black trousers from Matalan.

Good luck

TooImmature2BMum · 14/02/2011 13:32

I have some black Leigh skinny jeans from Topshop maternity, but be warned - as my bump grew, they became more and more uncomfortable! They have a thick band of elastic that is neither over nor under bump, and at 37 weeks I can no longer wear them because the elastic digs right in. Am now on maternity leave, though, so am surviving on leggings and joggers.

VivClicquot · 14/02/2011 14:19

My best buys were some Isabella Oliver wrap dresses off eBay - I bought three for work and they are all so comfy and really smart. I'm not really a suit kind of person anyway - and like one of the posters above, prefer fitted clothes which show off my bump, rather than baggy clothes. These dresses look professional enough for the office, and are easy to 'grow into' if that makes sense.

My jeans are Mamas and Papas, and I have a few weekend tops from M&P too - including a fair few of their vest tops. Plus I got some work stuff in the JoJo Maman Bebe sale (black pencil skirt and pink woollen skirt), both of which have proved to be brilliant bargains.

Badgerwife · 14/02/2011 14:31

For the height of French maternity fashion, go to www.vertbaudet.co.uk I got some lovely things on sale last month; their jeans are fab!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/02/2011 14:35

Mamalicious is really good - I buy through ASOS. Also Crave is really nice but more expensive, I treated myself to a couple of things.

boredbuthappy · 14/02/2011 17:15

I've bought almost all of my maternity clothes from H&M. Very comfy and the styles are versatile enough so that you can grab work wear, casual and loungey from their materniy collection. Very reasonable prices. I particularly found their trousers well fitting, even in late pregnancy.
