DS was born at 34 weeks and apart from being small was fine. He was in SCBU for 11 days.

Was wondering if anyone else would like to come and hold my had this time. Am 21 weeks and its all getting a bit close. Fingers crossed it should all be fine this time (even if its premmie). Am under the care of the doctor so get a scan at 28 weeks to measure my cervix. Plus as GTT (glucose tolerance test). Then as my placenta is slightly low I get a scan at 32 weeks.

It sounds silly but would be nice to have a proper cuddle this time rather than baby being taken away quickly - though as I say he is all fine so should count my blessings.

I was just wondering how you're doing confuddled. Glad to hear still hanging on in there.

confuddledDOTcom · 31/05/2011 22:26

Totally fed up! I've been getting them so regular that I'm sore and tired from lack of sleep. Desperate for them to become real! But I'm ok, baby is fine and happy so just got to wait on her!

Checkmate · 31/05/2011 23:35

Poor you. Is that why they won't let you go home to wait?

Prem births can be notoriously start-stop, all of mine have been too. You've done this before so you probably know this already.

When I was stuck in hospital pregnant with dc2 with prom, I used to remind myself that every day stuck in there pregnant would be one day less stuck in there with a baby in neonates. It's the only thing that got me through.

Keep your chin up and keep us posted.

confuddledDOTcom · 01/06/2011 00:12

My uterus is irritable and I'm having full on tightenings which aren't doing anything. If I go home there's two possible scenarios. I'm in and out until she's born because I don't know if it's it or not. The other is I get so used to ignoring it and fed up of hospitals that I ignore the real thing. Here I'm on the monitor a couple of times a day so a false alarm doesn't result in a panic and trying to find a babysitter.

HalleLouja · 01/06/2011 10:54

I had an irritable uterus at 34 weeks and held out til 36. In fact they thought I was in labour and less than 34 weeks at that point and were going to put me on a drip to stop them... No drip they just stopped.

Labour was really quick and I am glad I was in hospital when my waters broke otherwise DD would have been born in the car or hospital reception!!

Looks like I might actually be starting! About time though I've been like this for almost two weeks.

Checkmate · 01/06/2011 11:38

Wow, exciting confuddled!

Hope it goes really smoothly and you're enjoying cuddles with your newborn soon.

HalleLouja · 01/06/2011 17:56

Fingers crossed to more healthy babies on this thread!

The short version... 9:30pm, 5lb 1oz, 34+2 weeks, little girl.

Still waiting to feed her, she wasn't sure what to do with my massive nipple and kept pushing it out! She's still downstairs but hopefully not for long.

Checkmate · 02/06/2011 08:08

Congratulations! So sorry to hear she's not with you, hopefully she will be very soon. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hopefully someone will bring you some syringes for hand expressing colostrum. That really helped with my 34 weeker.

confuddledDOTcom · 02/06/2011 08:25

She's too small for the ward but there's no Transition bed for us. I was given some tiny syringes last night for hand expressing but I'm not sure if I'm going to. My milk's there as I'm tandeming and I'll be doing all her socialable feeds until we're together so I might just leave them to put formula in her nose at night. I'm also in a lot of pain from being forced into lithomy with PGP so don't feel like the messing about.

Checkmate · 02/06/2011 12:01

Oh if you're tandem feeding then yes I agree, not as much concern about expressing. Is there donor breastmilk available instead of formula, to keep her risk of infection down?
Hopefully it won't be much of an issue as she'll be back with you pretty quickly. Look after yourself.

HalleLouja · 02/06/2011 13:39

Fingers crossed confuddled you are all home soon. I managed to bf DS despite them using a tube in the early days. Congratulations by the way Grin!

Both my other two were tube fed at first, this is probably the best hospital around here for breastfeeding, I fought to get in because they were full and I wouldn't have a premature baby anywhere else, fortunately my history means this is the best place so they let me in.

This hospital is a milk bank so I don't know why they weren't using donor milk as she isn't tolerating formula. They gave me an expressing set earlier ("oh if you're tandeming you might as well go straight to the pump"Grin) I had to express onto my nipple first to prove my supply was there, just had to touch it and it turned yellow! They were impressed at my 6ml donation from one short session (couldn't do more as I needed my pain relief) as it was a full feed. They slit it over two feeds to make it go further and to help regulate her sugar which is obviously all over the place. She didn't tolerate that either so she's now nil by mouth as they get the results of blood tests back. She was rooting when I was there too Sad Hopefully we'll be able to get her to the breast soon.

KWright · 03/06/2011 08:22

My DD was born at 32 wks by ECS due to my high blood pressure. I'm currently 42 wks pregnant - yes...42 wks! Was nerve wracking, but once I got past 32 weeks, every day was a bonus.

My own mother also had a baby at 32 weeks and 42 weeks too!

Good luck!

Checkmate · 03/06/2011 19:24

confuddled - great that the hospital are so supportive of breastfeeding. Fingers crossed for her getting on the breast soon, hope the blood test results are positive.

KWright - wow, what a difference! Hope baby is born soon so you don't have much of this hot weather to endure.

cheekydino · 07/06/2011 20:11

Congratulations confuddled! Hope you are both home by now and that feeding has taken off.

Currently approaching 24 weeks myself and beginning to feel more confident things will be ok. Keen to start setting nursery up as we didn't get chance last time, but thinking I'd best wait a few more weeks.

confuddledDOTcom · 09/06/2011 09:56

She's still in the unit but it shouldn't be for too long now. She's off the drip and only taking my milk, we've tried to breastfeed a few times but as she's on hourly feeds she's not hungry enough but hopefully that changes today.

I think all her problems were down to formula so other than her bili levels she's doing well (but that's about standard as I guess we all know by now, your life being ruled by the bili levels!) As soon as she's off the lights and able to tolerate three hourly feeds she should be moving to Transitional Care. I've been given the hospital flat until then as my mobility is so bad at the moment I wouldn't be able to get in if I went home.

Checkmate · 09/06/2011 13:22

Great improvement confuddled, well done you and her. I well remember having my life determined by bili levels, and the poor doctors who would make me cry when they'd increased again and they had to give me the bad news that we still couldn't go home.... you have my sympathy.

cheekydino, good luck with keeping baby in until nursery ready! As you can see form other stories here, subsequent babies are often not as early.

I've amazed myself and everyone by keeping this one in until almost 37 weeks so far! I'm 37 weeks on saturday, and starting to feel overdue! Kind of ironic when I'd fought for a 36 week homebirth; that I'm almost certainly not going to need one!
i am having a lot of signs of labour, but although everytime the ctx start, they are painful, they then stop again a few hours later. Its quite frustrating (but I know its good, too).

HalleLouja · 16/06/2011 06:22

How is everyone dd is now 3 weeks old and still a few days from her due date. She is doing well and put on 13 oz last week. Hopefully she keeps gaining weight fast and will be big before I know it.

Checkmate, have you had your baby yet?

We went to TC the day after my last post. It's been tough as her weight carried on dropping and she couldn't keep her bili levels down. She had gained weight yesterday for the first time and her bili level is at it's lowest so got to see what happens now. She's due to be weighed tomorrow and Friday so hopefully we can go home this weekend - two weeks on TC and four in hospital! One thing I'll miss is the bed lol it's electric so really helping my back and pelvic pain, I'm trying to work out how to fit it in my bag!

HalleLouja · 28/06/2011 18:08

Any more news? Check have you had your baby? Confuddled are you home yet?
