DS was born at 34 weeks and apart from being small was fine. He was in SCBU for 11 days.

Was wondering if anyone else would like to come and hold my had this time. Am 21 weeks and its all getting a bit close. Fingers crossed it should all be fine this time (even if its premmie). Am under the care of the doctor so get a scan at 28 weeks to measure my cervix. Plus as GTT (glucose tolerance test). Then as my placenta is slightly low I get a scan at 32 weeks.

It sounds silly but would be nice to have a proper cuddle this time rather than baby being taken away quickly - though as I say he is all fine so should count my blessings.

I had my DD at 34wks via EMCS due to PET. Am currently 37wks with no.2, a boy. The comments about bag packing here are so funny and true, I took nothing to hospital with me last time as I thought I'd be let home after a few hrs not knowing I'd be in for 2wks. My DD was 4lb6oz and didn't have any problems, just feeding and growing. It was all such a shock to the system though, all a bit of a blur, I couldn't enjoy any of it. I remember thinking she was as beautiful as I thought she would be but it was like looking at someone elses baby in the incubator. My OH was taking the photos of us and all I could think is, "I must smile, this is important - the first photo of me with my firstborn", but in reality, I was so spaced out on all the drugs still.

In this pregnancy, its been entirely different, I realise now how sick I felt with the PET in my first pregnancy and I thought it was normal at the time. This baby feels bigger, it'll be so strange to have a normal sized baby and one I can hopefully take home much sooner than the last. I'm hoping for a straightforward VBAC. Fingers crossed there has been no sign of PET so far apart from slight swelling in the feet which has only been very recently. And my bag is well and truly packed, I still plan on putting more in though, some chocolate, magazines... I'll be well and truly prepared this time! Good luck to everyone.

Will add to this that I had my 2nd set of twins only slightly prem as got to 36+5 this time so they were 6lb3and 6lb9. Only the bigger one needed scbu thus time.

So mine are

Ds 6 days early
Dgirl twins 7 weeks early
D boy twins just over 3 weeks early

and now, no more for me :)

pipoca · 13/05/2011 13:37

now 37+4 so almost 2 weeks more pregnant than last time. Had a scan on tues which estimated the weight as 7lb 1oz, so really pleased. Had a very very slight show yesterday but nothing further. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Haven't seen this before, but in the same situation as many of you....

DD1 - 37 weeks (induced for sudden blood loss)
DS1 - prom at 34 weeks. Went into labour at 35 weeks. 5 days in scbu but no long term problems.
DD2 - Induced at 35 weeks for prom. Didn't need scbu.
DS2 - Went into labour naturally at 36 +2. With me overnight, then he caught hospital aquired infection and was 2 weeks in scbu

Now pregnant with DS3, really paranoid that he'll be in scbu again as both other boys have been. Feeling really upset.

However, I'm 32+6 now, so at least I know he's not going to be really prem. I'm not under consultant care this time, as last pregnancy I went into labour after sitting for 4 hours waiting for appt with consultant, while running after my 2 year old. I'm not very near the hospital, and decided that the stress of driving there and waiting hours for appts would be a nightmare again. I've paid for additional private scans though, and know the baby is a really good size and no obvious signs of anything happening early.

cheekydino · 15/05/2011 19:32

Can I just ask about other people's antenatal care - I'm not seeing a consultant between 16 and 28 weeks - is this normal? I have a scan at 20 wks and a gp antenatal check, but then nothing until 28 wks (when I have another scan and a swab). My ds came at 31 wks and no reason could be found (waters broke, labour 2 days later).

I assumed the care I am getting was normal, but met some other mothers at the weekend who had had prem babies and they said for their second they were monitored every two weeks. Not sure whether I should try and see the consultant again or leave it?

HalleLouja · 15/05/2011 21:18

I wasn't monitored every two weeks and not sure I would have wanted to be.

I had some extra scans but part of the reason is a low lying placenta.

cheekydino - when I was consultant led with DC3 & DC4 following a prem birth with no cause found with DC2, my appointments were every month or 6 weeks. And to be honest, nothing was ever done at them, in terms of tests or anything.

cheekydino · 16/05/2011 19:48

Reassuring, thanks guys. I have managed to secure myself a fibronectin test to reassure myself a bit more.

Incidentally - have been doing some work with Bliss (special care baby charity) - if anyone is interested, they are getting people to email their MPs as the current proposed NHS reforms are likely to impact care of babies. Link below Smile

HalleLouja · 16/05/2011 20:22

Cheeky maybe you should start a separate thread in premature babies so that people can click on the link and hassle their MPs.

Hello! Made it to 38 weeks this time. DD born on Saturday after a 2 and a half hour delivery 3280g and gorgeous!

Checkmate · 17/05/2011 15:56

Great news pipoca! Congratulations!

Alas, I'm having a lot of painful contractions on and off over past few days. Only 33 weeks, so not looking good for me getting to term....

HalleLouja · 17/05/2011 17:08

Fingers crossed checkmate they are only teasing. Have you spoken to your midwife? I was having contractions and when they thought I was 33 weeks they were going to stop them to make sure steriods had time to work. In fact I was 34+1 but that is another story.

OP posts:
hillyhilly · 17/05/2011 17:11

My DD was 36+5 so not hugely early officially tho' a complete shock to us!
My DS was a week late so I was pregnant for a whole 4 weeks longer which was a shock, longest 4 weeks of my life as I'd been expecting to give birth for so long!

cheekydino · 17/05/2011 19:16

Congratulations pipoca! Great news.

Hope it is a false alarm for you, checkmate. Have you had the fibronectin test? Ask for it if your hospital offer it as it would be very reassuring if it is negative.

And thanks for starting the thread on the Bliss campaign for me HalleLouja, I'll add to it after I've had my tea. Currently starving - was hoping my need for large amounts of food would wear off, but still overeating sadly!

Checkmate · 18/05/2011 12:24

Haaelouja & cheekydino- yes, spoke to community mw. She wants me to phone delivery suite if they start up again, potentially to get fibronectin test and steroids. I hate the hospital and find it very stressful, so have booked a private scan with a highly qualified doctor who has done all my scans this time round for tomorrow. She is going to see if she can see the cervix opening, and also if baby is still breech, one of my concerns, and check size etc... Depending what that finds I'll go to hospital, or not.

HalleLouja · 31/05/2011 13:34

DD was born at 36+2, which after all the bleeding I was relieved about. She is doing well but is still in hospital awaiting a test for jaundice (after receiving treatment). Hopefully out today.

This time as she fed from me straight away there has been no SCBU though we did have a short visit but was never admitted.

Hope all is well with you. Grin

Checkmate · 31/05/2011 13:42

Fantastic news; hallelujah in fact, no SCBU!

Well done you and her.

I've kept hanging on... am 35+3 currently.

confuddledDOTcom · 31/05/2011 19:50

Just found this thread and thought I'd say hi. I'm 34 weeks and in hospital waiting for my tightenings to turn into proper contractions. My last three were 20, 31 and 35 weeks. My 20 weeker lived 3 hours, my other two have done really well.

I'm happy now I'm 34 weeks it's a good age and shouldn't mean a unit stay. Looks like I'm here till I carry her out in her car seat so about two weeks I reckon.
