I cant remember exactly with my DC1 but I think it was about 36 weeks, im only 31 at the mo with DC2 but already having clutch issues cos my belly is getting in the way.
Just wondered when you all stopped?

I didn't - although I drew the line at driving myself to hospital as the contractions would have affected my reflexes somewhat!! Rather puzzled as to why you would.

CrawlingInMySkin · 01/02/2011 19:07

While you are on this subject I was studying my theory when I fell pg, is it a bad idea for me to learn to drive while pg?

DrSeuss · 01/02/2011 19:10

About ten hours before my waters broke! Why stop?

2cats2many · 01/02/2011 19:13

I didn't and I was HUGE. I just kept putting the seat back.

Bumperrlicious · 01/02/2011 19:16

I didn't but I must admit that being short of leg and massive of tum made it difficult to see at junctions!

TennisFan · 01/02/2011 19:17

I never stopped driving either - and was still able to drive and get into a variety of cars

BelieveInLife · 01/02/2011 19:18

I didn't and won't this time. Didn't realise people did - why do they?!! Confused

Mrsfluff · 01/02/2011 19:19

I drove myself to hospital :)

Bideyin · 01/02/2011 19:19

I drove myself to hospital.

Cheggerspartypopper · 01/02/2011 19:21

I stopped when the contractions were too painful and had to get dh to drive me to the nursery to pick up ds1 as I was writhing around a bit.

I did avoid doing long journeys before that though

littleyellowchicken · 01/02/2011 19:25

I didnt and could still fit into my MX5 !

Chaotica · 01/02/2011 19:26

I didn't. It didn't occur to me either. I had daily hospital appointments and it would have been a pain for DP to drive me.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/02/2011 19:34

I stopped at about 30 weeks with DS because my SPD was so bad that I couldn't change gear or brake in a hurry.

This time the SPD isn't so bad, I have a much comfier car as well which is helping.

I am really short though, and my bump is right up against the steering wheel. I'm considering stopping driving at some point (am 32 weeks atm) because I worry about the steering wheel being rammed into my bump if I have an accident.

itssnotfunny · 01/02/2011 19:35

i didnt .

wigglesrock · 01/02/2011 20:21

I'm 38 weeks and still driving. Hadn't occured to me to stop, still comfy.

DuelingFanjo · 01/02/2011 20:23

I was still driving, in the snow, up to the day I went into hospital. Didn't realise people stopped.

Eglu · 01/02/2011 20:24

I didn't stop.

The Miriam Stoppard book talks about possibly stopping driving and suggests about 36 weeks I think. Although it says some people may not need to.

cece · 01/02/2011 20:26

I didn't realise you were supposed to stop driving? I was still at work at 38 weeks so needed to get there, hence I drove. Didn't have any problems apart from with my second baby. He was over 11 lbs and my bump was pretty big, so had to sort of wedge myself behind the wheel. But once in position the driving was fine.

NicolaMarlow · 01/02/2011 20:26

Can't remember with DS but was in and out of hospital from 35 weeks and so quite possibly stopped then.

With DD I drove myself to and from my sweep at 40+3. Did let DH drive me to hospital the next day when I was I'm labour though Grin

PussinJimmyChoos · 01/02/2011 20:29

Am still driving although only short distances.

Am 33 weeks but still have 2/3 cms between bump and steering wheel and although have SPD, can brake fast if required so don't consider it a risk

Am only 5ft 2 though so am actually quite surprised my bump isn't at the steering wheel yet, but pleased at same time as hate relying on DH for lifts and like the option of being able to take DS out after school

undercovamutha · 01/02/2011 20:29

I didn't stop. Are you meant to?

SeaChelles · 01/02/2011 20:29

I didn't! Didn't realise you were supposed too? My bump just never got too big!

FedUpInFebruary · 01/02/2011 20:32

I stopped at about 36 weeks with my first as I found I was just too vague to be safe.

jenga079 · 01/02/2011 20:32

Oh good, I'm glad you all said you didn't. I hadn't even considered that and am planning to work until I pop so will need to be driving too.

CupcakesHay · 01/02/2011 20:37

Currently overdue - and don't have power steering, which is why i've stopped as it's a killer! But only found it bad 2 weeks ago, which is why I stopped unless it's literally a 2 minute journey. But i've never not found it not safe - mine's just from a lazy point of view!
