Clear Blue Fertility Monitor

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to this so excuse the lack of acronyms!!

So my husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 6 months and no luck. We are desperate for a little one . Recently a friend recommended the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor to me, she got pregnant in the first month of using the machine so it came highly recommended!!!

I'm on day 8 of using it and at the moment still on low fertility, I'm trying not to get my hopes up but am getting excited at when it shows peak fertility and we can make our little baby. However, obviously this is only one person who has been successful with it. I wondered if anyone has been successful with it or unsuccessful?

It was also really attractive due to the fact that my husband works away every monday to thursday so we only have a few days each week to try and conceive.

Any stories/advice that anyone could give, I would really appreciate it.

Sorry I have gone on a bit!!

Thanks you

MrsK xxx

I had an ectopic pregnancy last year and list a tube, which resulted in irregular periods so it would have been impossible to track fertility easily or use online fertility calculators. I bought a CBFM and got pregnant the first month of trying.

Obviously everyone's different, and I imagine for every positive story (no pun intended...) there's a flip side, but I'd definitely recommend giving it a go.

Good luck!

I also got pregnant the first time I used this, and I have read some good reviews elsewhere (which is what made me buy it)!
Good luck, hope you have some good news soon :)

MrsKxxx · 01/02/2011 19:15

Oh fantastic!! Did you do the deed on all the high days and the peak or just the peak? xx

Deffo worth buying due to the high fertility indication before your peak. I seem to recall that in the first month of using it, my high fertility days showed up later than in the next month - could be machine getting used to your hormones. Also, my peaks coincided with other ovulation signs. I did conceive 3rd month using it but then my ovulation was pretty regular.

Are you trying other things eg evening primrose oil (good for fertile cervical mucus) and acupuncture?

lilly13 · 01/02/2011 19:17

None of the monitors worked for me (I tried 4 different brands produced in 3 different countries). I have done ovulatory tracking (ultrasound scans) which clearly showed healthy ovulation. My doctor said that I must be passing water too quickly. Apparently, monitors do not work on some people. I am pregnant now (managed without monitors). All I want to say, don't be disappointed if the monitor doesn't work for you. Good luck!

MrsKxxx · 01/02/2011 19:31

No, I'm not very experienced in it all really, don't know alot about what else I can do...any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks lilly13, I am trying not to get my hopes up. Congrats on your pregnancy.

If u have a normal cycle don't expect to see a high so early.

By normal I mean your textbook 28 day blah blah...

Anyway. I was ttc for 2 years. In that time I had 2 losses and after my losses my cycles were regular but ovulation wasn't. I bought a cbfm and I fell pregnant on my 3rd cycle.

I was being investigated as ovulation was irregular
And the peaks matched my ovulation blood tests! So whilst it doesn't work for everyone it did match my cycle. I didn't ovulate for one out of the free cycles. I made sure I had sex on my peak days and high days only If possible

I had a 26-28 day cycle and was bd-ing 2 days later than what the monitor was telling me were my optimum days!! So I had missed my peak days.

During your first cycle u may not get a peak as the monitor can take time to adjust to your cycle so don't worry about it if that happens and try not to obsess over it. Most people I know who had pretty much regular cycles have fallen pregnant within 3 cycles. Including me!! I am now in my 17th week!!

If u have any questions please feel free to ask. Several of my friends have started using it now and reaslise their peak days were out by a few days which makes all the difference!

tattyteddy · 01/02/2011 20:00

Thanks MrsK, good luck xx

My DH and I were TTC for around 6 months when I started using it. You need to be aware that if you have any underlying ovulation problems it may not work. I found out I had PCOS and so it didn't work for me. In the end I got pregnant the cycle after I stopped using it - baby due in April. Can I suggest the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' for lots of advice on how you can recognise when you are ovulating without weeing on a stick every day!

lurcherlover · 01/02/2011 20:57

It worked for me - I have irregular cycles (anything from 28-40 days) and had no idea when I was ovulating as I never had any of the symptoms. I got fed up of not knowing when my fertile window was (sure, the advice to dtd every other day is sound, but when you're both working and knackered who manages it?!) Anyway, I bought the monitor from amazon (best price when I was looking for one - much cheaper than boots) and conceived the first month of trying with it. DS is now 14 weeks old! I had a lot of high days that month, then two peaks which were earlier than I had thought they would be. So I'd recommend it, good luck!

abgto · 01/02/2011 21:06

I also used it on a recommendation from a friend who had success on the first try and it worked for me on the second month I used it. I was 11 days late the first month but never had a BFP so I guess I wasn't pregnant but I am usually pretty regular so not sure what happened. My cycle is usually 32 days and I found the peak day was a few days later the second time around. Definitely worth a shot!

MissLolita · 01/02/2011 21:44

I second the above recommendations - I got one after several months of 'just getting on with things' and got pg on the first month - it turned out my cycles were slightly longer than I had realised and I was ovulating much later than I had thought (day 17) so in all the earlier months we had probably been, ahem, lacking in focus at the correct time. It's not a magic wand but it does work! good luck!

There is a CBFM support group on the conception board (with a steady stream of 'graduates') and the ladies are lovely x

Lots of positive stories. I used it too and, again worked for me.

I have a very irregular cycle and had been trying for a few months but as I had calculated such a big window of days I could be ovulating I found going it alone quite stressful. First two months with monitor I did not reach peak. Found out I had a large ovarian cyst (about the size of a football!) which was surgically removed. That set us back about 5 months.

Back on monitor, hit peak and conceived first month. Only tried once (15th May at around 12pm) because I then got flu and ended up in bed for a few days. Today is my EDD!!!! (though no sign of anything happening yet) :)

jcp123 · 02/02/2011 08:13

I should also add that I tracked my temperature whilst ttc just in case I'd had problems so that I could have some evidence for the doctor in case I needed it.

I know some people who've used this method exclusively and it's worked for them. Boots do a little pack with thermometer and temp chart (I think) about £12.

Jaffacake76 · 02/02/2011 08:18

Hi,

I love the CBFM. After we got married we wanted to start a family straight away. So we had two months of trying and we became impatient so tried the CBFM.

We couldn't quite believe it when it worked on our first month of using it!

Just to give you the breakdown, I had 8 Highs from Cycle day D7-CD14, CD15/16 Peak. We didn't actually do the deed that much because of hubbys shifts. To be exact we did the deed on CD 9/12/15/16....I did read somewhere it's good to BD on your peaks between 5-7pm on both peak days we bd at 5pm ish...not sure if that helped?!?!

Obviously everyones cycle is different so don't worry if you're still getting lows.

Good luck!
x

Thaney · 02/02/2011 08:29

It worked for me on the first month of using it too. We had been TTC for 8 months before that.

30andMerkin · 02/02/2011 08:30

Are these the things that cost around £100 at Boots? Am tempted... Anyone know the cheapest place to buy?

jcp123 · 02/02/2011 08:41

Yes 30andMerkinm they are but try the internet - £56.99 from amazon and free delivery. You need to buy test strips as well which come in boxes of 20 (£14.99/Amazon, £19.99 boots). If you have a fairly regular cycle you'll use 10 most months, else it will be 20. Hopefully you'll only need on box! Good Luck!!!

MissLolita · 02/02/2011 09:51

I managed to get one from Amazon for about £55 which had a box of 20 sticks thrown in free. You can also pick them up on eBay. It's really worth it in my opinion as it gave us a feeling of control over the situation/ a sense we were doing something to help which was a big psychological boost.
