Where to shop for baby boys clothes that aren't predominantly blue/ khaki, or covered in cars, diggers, spaceships etc?

Hello all,

I am 20 weeks pregnant with a little boy and am just starting to look about at the clothes on offer. Am frankly a bit annoyed at the lack of nice clothing for baby boys I have found in places like Next. They mainly seem to have diggers/ cars/ spaceships etc on them and be in shades of blue/ grey/ brown etc. I would like to kit DS out in some less stereotypical clothing - nice bright colours as well as neutrals but avoiding the mini outfit type thing (no shirts and jeans or [shudder] baby chinos) although nice dungarees are always lovely.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I once got a 7 pack of babygros from mothercare in bright colours, think they may have had savannah animals on them, a bit.

american apparel is good but not as cheap, for basics in a range of plain colours

Vertbaudet and La Redoute catalogues / online are pretty good for bright, jolly clothes. Reasonable prices and there are always offers on too. I know what you mean - I don't know what I'm having yet, but the choice of boys stuff isn't great!

Boden and John Lewis are the best.

Mothercare is ok for plain white/cream basics but actually JL is cheaper for vests and babygros which is a surprise.

Bob and Blossom is lovely. Also h&m and American Apparel have plain/bright colours.

Polarn O. Pyret are lovely but rather expensive. I've been buying their stuff second-hand on eBay, and keeping an eye out in charity shops.

I love John Lewis - my DS has the dragon sleepsuits and dinosaur bodysuits and looks adorable in them - everyone comments on how nice they are. Also Not much more expensive than anywhere else either, and they are generously sized and wash well. DS also has the stars babygro from M&S that the lovely boy in misdee's pic is sporting!

Next and H&M

You just have to do a bit of leg work. Most shops have one or two nice things hidden amongst the sludgy clothes.

Try NCT sales, charity shops, jumble sales etc too - they often have nice bright nearly new clothes at bargain prices.

Failing that, a few packs of dylon, some iron-on decals and some white cotton clothing should ensure your boy looks like a cool dude!!

IMO, boys clothing may be a bit dull sometimes, but at least you don't get the vomit-inducing frilly sea of pink that is the girls clothing aisle.

Boots has a lovely baby grow with stars on it and some stripey ones. When I was in there yesterday there was an offer of two for £8.

H&M have some good stuff and surprisingly Tesco has some quite nice things at the moment. I hate obviously gender specific clothes so I'm always on the look out. You could also try Ebay, there are lots of brightly coloured things on there.

You can often uncover some interesting stuff in TK Maxx.

I feel your pain - I have been thinking the same thing. This is DC3, but my first DS and I'm already looking wistfully at the girls' clothing. I can't see anything I like for boys at all.

Frugi do the most gorgeous boys clothes, lovely colours and no camouflage in sight. There clothes are also organic and quite a few are unisex rather than specifically aimed at boys or girls, just lovely bright colours.

Thanks for this thread... have just discovered a willy on the scan photo and was also getting a bit dismayed at the prospect of having to dress my DS as a dumper truck.

Katvig does some lovely stuff, but charge a ridiculous amount for simple babygros...

I've also just noticed that the Asda website is now selling some of its basics in yellow and green and orange and red. Nice one.

I always found boots to be the best for non "camouflage and skulls/pink and frilly" clothes
Mind you I do love a nice dumper truck :o And both DS and DD looked adorable int he dinosaur vests

Ooh yes DD had a bright red and a mustard yellow sleepsuit from asda. They weren't the highest quality but they were so cheap and looked so bright and lovely

I too recommend H&M. I also like the Katvig stuff but i've never bought any as it's too expensive!

I have an 8 year old ds and still have the same issues! I second what others have said about John Lewis though :)

I've never seen the excitement of a dumper truck . But yes, some of my favourite newborn things of DD's were from Boots... I'll have another look. Not too fussed on quality... if he's anything like DD, he'll poo explosively all over everything for at least the first few months!
