Hi
I'm just intrigued really but waiting for blood results from mu nuchal scan and bloods and wanted to see what others results were at different ages and also scans at different times...

I'm 29 my fold was measured at 2.6 and scan wa taken at 13 weeks 3 days. I have no history of downs in my family but am told that means nothing.

My hospital is supposed to ring within 7 days if it's a. High risk and 7 days are up this tuesday. I've read so many different pieces of advice about what is normal but would rather hear from real ladies...

So how old are you
What was your fold measurement?
What were your blood results
Risk factor?
And when was your nuchal scan carried out?

Just passing the time really but would love any replies. Pregnancy....it's all one long worry so far!!!!

Thanks ladies xx

Aw, sorry you are having the extra worry. Pregnancy seems to be the most fabulous yet most frustrating thing.

I am 32 and had my scan at 12+5 although I am still convinced I was 11+6 as it was they who said the later date. The measurement was 1.6 and the chance was 1:2600.

I hope that Tuesday comes quickly for you and the results settle you. xx

cameli · 15/01/2011 09:54

I was 5 days off being 35 when i had mine done last November.

My scan was done at 13+2 & the fold measurement was 1.8. I was amazes when i go my risk factor because of my age - it was 1:9800 :)

Fingers crossed for good results for you.x

BelieveInLife · 15/01/2011 09:55

I'm 29 also, was scanned at 12+6 and nuchal fold was 1.5 with a risk of 1:100000

festive · 15/01/2011 09:57

Hi Jimmychoo

I was v anxious and didn't want to tell anyone I was pg until after the results but DH was too excited and told everyone pretty much right after the scan!

My results were -
Age 34
Scan done at 12 + 4
Measurement 2.2
Risk 1 in 28000

My hospital said if there's a prob they'd call within 3-5 days and if all ok then results in the post. I had scan and tests on a Fri and GP rang me on Mon - eek! Naturally I freaked out but he was just calling to tell me my blood type is Rhesus neg! So just to say if you had other bloods done on the day don't panic if you get a call they could just be calling to let you know your iron is low or something!

Good luck x

Was 3 years ago but I was 35, was done at 12 weeks exactly, measurement was 0.5mm and risk was 1:1200 (no bloods)

I'm due to have my nuchal + bloods for this one in a couple of weeks. They've added the bloods since the last time so I don't know what the procedure is. I'm guessing from your op that you don't get the results there and then?

Fingers crossed for you, I'm sure it'll be fine :)

argylesocks · 15/01/2011 10:16

Hi I was 12.6 and my nuchal was 1.6. I'm 27 and I got back a 1:50,000 and I have down syndrome in my family. I know it's very very rarely genetic but they still took that into account so I was surprised to get such a high number.

LadyGoneGaga · 15/01/2011 10:42

Had mine done last week. I was 12+3 (by their measurement, 11+6 my my dates from charting). Nuchal measurement was 1mm, I am 32, had bloods done too and chances came back 1 in 6300 so was very pleased with that.

MainlyMaynie · 15/01/2011 10:56

I'm 34. I was 12.1 weeks, the measurement was 1.48 and the risk was 1 in 50,000. Our hospital don't give you the figures for the blood results, just send you the risk factor. I was surprised at how low the risk was, given my age.

Our hospital say they's call in 2-3 days if it was high risk and send a letter in about a week if not. I actually got the letter in 3 days, which I thought was pretty impressive! I found those three days very worrying though, so I hope you get your result soon and that it's good news!

FeralGirlCambs · 15/01/2011 11:23

This is kind of tangential to JimmyChoo17's qestion, but I wonder whether the nuchal fold measurement is discussed at the time of the scan -i.e if it seems 'normal' or not are you told at once? Though I know the bloods can complicate things and combined risk might be different from nuchal alone. I have my scan on the 24th and it is so difficult trying not to tell people other than closest family / friends about being pregnant, as we've decided we'd like to know whether everything seems ok before doing so. I know lots of other things can be not ok, so there's never a 'safe' time to announce it; and I'm 30 so probably not very high risk, but anyway, I wonder if I might have a good idea on scan day whether things are 'normal'?

snowmummy · 15/01/2011 12:09

My results were as follows:

Age: 40
Scan: 11+6days
Measurement: 1mm
Risk: 1 in 100,000

I too was amazed at how low the risk was given my age. I had the triple test with my first 2 children and the risk factor came out much higher although I know the two different tests cannot be compared.

MainlyMaynie · 15/01/2011 12:26

FeralGirl, the sonographer told me what the nuchal fold measurement was at the scan and it was also on the report they put in my notes. She did tell me that I shouldn't rely on it meaning anything without the blood test results though. I did find a graph on line which showed the risk of chromosomal abnormalities by nuchal fold measurement, so I felt quite reassured on the day, but knew I needed to wait for the test results really.

LadyGoneGaga · 15/01/2011 12:37

My clinic do the bloods two days in advance so you get the results in full when they do the scan which is better IMO. I'm surprised by how low some of the risks are - seeing as they told me mine (1 in 6,300) was about as good as it got and was the same as a 15 year olds!

snowmummy · 15/01/2011 12:43

Ladygone, I'm surprised they said 1 in 6,300 was as good as it gets! Maybe they meant its a very low risk and risk below a certain threshold is as good as it gets.

lilly13 · 15/01/2011 13:10

Hi Jimmychoo,

Age: 35
Test done: 11+3
NT: 0.9mm
Risk: 1:5500

Had mine done privately (scan & bloods at the same time). Results were ready in 2 days.

Hope all goes well for you! Don't worry too much.

growing3rdbump · 15/01/2011 13:17

Hello

Age: 30
Test done: 12 wks 6 days
Nuchal fold 2.2
Risk: 1: 18079

My nuchal fold measurement seems big compared to others ????!

growing3rdbump · 15/01/2011 13:19

or maybe it's because pregnancy was further on..?! Was pleased to get low risk results.

Yaya70 · 15/01/2011 13:26

Just to add some higher risks to all your lovely low risk scores, here are mine:

Age 40
Test done at 12w 0d

Twin 1
hCG: 2.3717 MoM
PAPP-A: 1.1570 MoM
Nuchal fold: 2.1
Nasal bone present
Tricuspid regurgitation

Risk of trisomy 21: 1:26
Risk of trisomy 13/18: 1:2452

CVS confirmed no chromosomal abnormalities

Twin 2
hCG: 2.3717 MoM
PAPP-A: 1.1570 MoM
Nuchal fold: 2.0
Nasal bone absent
Tricuspid regurgitation

Risk of trisomy 21: 1:2
Risk of trisomy 13/18: 1:473

CVS confirmed Down syndrome

MainlyMaynie · 15/01/2011 13:44

growing3rdbump, I read that the average nuchal fold at 12 weeks was 2.25, so I'm surprised at how low everyone here's have been.

yaya70, that must have been a hugely difficult result with the difference in the twins. Hope you and your family are doing ok.

lilly13 · 15/01/2011 13:49

yaya70, you must have been devasted. sending you hugs!

growing3, i wouldn't worry about your NT thinkness as long as combined score (with bloods) yielded a good result.

JimmyChoo17 · 15/01/2011 14:22

Omg!!! Mine is so much higher!!

I thought people would have similar messages but mine are higher reading than the poor yaya 's measurements. The smonographer didn't discuss results but midwife said was low risk just wait for bloods....the midwife I saw was not very nice either and very off with us so I am a little unsure whether to trust her. My scan and bloods were taken Tuesday morning so I think if they found something they wouldn't call me until this week. I have very little trust in my local services as they misinformed me about some results earlier in the year which as a result may have caused my second miscarriage. That was my gp but obviously leaves me wary....

Do readings go up or down the later in the first trimester?

JimmyChoo17 · 15/01/2011 14:24

Yaya sorry to hear your results by the way. Must have been hard on you. Xxxx

Mine has a nasal bone if that matters?

OP posts:
MainlyMaynie · 15/01/2011 14:35

Yes, the readings go up the more weeks you are. I'm sure that 2.0 is a below average measurement and that this has been a very unrepresentative sample. It's certainly an unusually low set of risks, as many people get risks in the 100s or low thousands.

Nasal bone being present is a pretty good indication that DS is unlikely.

This graph should reassure you:

OffToNarnia · 15/01/2011 14:37

I have a horrible feeling seeing peoples 'results ' has not made you feel any better or reassured Jimmychoo. Having a nasal bone certainly is an encouraging sign. I know Tuesday is going to seem a long wait. Is your midwife or Gp good to talk to? Maybe you could have a chat with them Monday. At 29 you are a whipper snapper from my 40plus perspective...that is in your favour too. Talk to someone Monday if you feel you need to..even the hospital. Wishing you all the best.

beckie90 · 15/01/2011 14:48

with my 1st i was 17 and they just did the bloods, my result was 1 in 800 taken at 15wk, pretty low for my age. but this time im 20, measurement was 1.5mm and result was 1 in 2800 scan was at 12+3

Yaya70 · 15/01/2011 14:48

JimmyChoo, please don't worry. You're young so your baseline risk of problems should be very low. The presence of the nasal bone is really important so that's great that you saw that. 75% of babies with Down syndrome (and 1% of chromosomally normal babies) have no nasal bone at the 12 week scan. Your nuchal is probably a bit higher than some of the others as you were scanned a bit later at 13w 3d, but it's still within the normal range.
