If yes, what did you do differently?

I know, I'm clutching at straws again but AF on her way again Sad.

We have had tests and currently waiting to start Clomid. My results all ok but 7% morphology - although the Consultant seemed to give us the impression this is not too much of a problem??

Yes, I did - TTC for just over 2 years before I started on clomid and ended up pg first cycle. They never really got to the bottom of my problems (short cycles, probably screwy hormone levels).

Can't help on the morphology front - I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more about that than I do.

Lots of luck

Shock maryx

That must have been a helluva suprise!? how far gone were you when you realized?

Rhian82 · 10/01/2011 13:26

A friend of mine was trying for about 4-5 years when she conceived. They never went to the doctor or had any treatment - I think they were too afraid of being told something was wrong, so just kept trying on their own. I wouldn't really recommend that, but it did work in the end for them.

We were ttc for 2yrs, I finally got pregnant on a very relaxing holiday in the Lake District!

I dont know why it took us that long, but I was quite overweight and my periods were irregular. I've since lost 3 stone and we're now ttc#2, so I'm waiting to see if it will take that long again.

Hey green eyes, got pg on Clomid after 9 cycles, we were trying for 2 1/2 years before that, I am now 28 weeks with my (not so little) clomid baby!

Good luck and baby dust **

wigglesrock · 10/01/2011 13:47

Just to let you know there are some lovely stories in a Chat thread from 9/01/2011, re ttc for four years. Sorry can't do links Grin.

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark · 10/01/2011 13:52

My sil got pregnant after 3 yrs of trying on her 6th cycle of clomid.

I got pregnant after 18 months of trying the first time. Have been trying for almost 2 years for no. 2 now. Have had first cycle of clomid. It's tough, but I definitely believe I'll get pregnant again (can't explain why). Fingers crossed for you.

I think sometimes you just need a bit of luck. Fingers crossed for you

violetwellies · 10/01/2011 13:52

Yes, I was 39 when we stopped using contraception, I will be 46 when I give birth, first pregnancy. No help, Im needle phobic and was too old for NHS assistance. Basically thought Id passed my sell by date and got on with my life :D

sevendwarves · 10/01/2011 13:55

Congratulations violetwellies!

atah · 10/01/2011 13:59

we TTC for 3 years before becoming pregnant.
I had a Laparoscopy (sp?) which said nothing wrong, was given fertility drugs, decided not to take them and remain childless then immedaitely became pregnant - 6 weeks after laparoscopy. Over the next 5 months I miscarried twice Sad Sad but felt stangely positive after both miscarriages as i had succeeded in conceiving IYKWIM. 6 weeks later I conceived again and delivered full term a healthy baby boy!!!
Don't give up hope, mother nature works in strange ways Grin

Tried for 10 years, got pregnant after giving up peas, which are apparently a mild contraceptive! That sounds like all I ever ate was peas - that's not the case, but we'd have them with dinner as habit along with mash.

Would recommend finding out what else might be like this, as I've heard a lot of people are successful after changing their diets (I know, what a drag, but it could be something simple like it was for me).

sevendwarves · 11/01/2011 10:58

RJRabbit can I ask where you heard about peas? Google failed me!

RJRabbit · 11/01/2011 16:41

I went to a herbalist who asked me whether I liked peas and when I replied that I loved them and had them at most evening meals, she suggested giving them a rest because of their contraceptive properties.

The herbs didn't seem to help and tasted yuck so I didn't last long on them, but the peas advice was worth the flight from London to Dublin!

If you do want to look some more, try Googling "peas contraceptive" or look at foodrecipe.org/peas.html

ttc for about 3 years, just started to embark on testing when struck lucky (33 weeks now).
A few things we did that probably are really obvious.
-stopped using saliva as lube as it kills sperm.
-made sure we had sex at the right time even when we didn't feel like it (I'm sure the time we hit gold was the time I heard the words 'bloody hell your dry as a bone' from my DP one morning just before he headed out to work (with his suit on Smile)
-lay down for 15 min after sex with hips on pillows
-make sure you orgasm even if he has been and gone so you suck up all the little swimmers.

interesting about the Peas too!

Good luck x

Yes, DD was conceived naturally after 3 years TTC and a month after having a failed cycle of IVF.

I went into more detail on the other recent thread, but what seems to have worked for us both times (now 9 weeks with DC2 after a further year of trying) is to forget about it and relax! Take a break, have a holiday, and GOOD LUCK!

create · 11/01/2011 21:18

We were trying for 7 years for DS1. Gave up and spent the money we'd saved, so I could have a long maternity leave, on a lovely holiday...

I have met a lot of people who fell pregnant only after they'd given up and taken all the pressure off themselves.

DS2 came in the 2nd month BTW!

sevendwarves · 12/01/2011 11:38

create strange coincidence isn't it, especially as experts say stress will only stop you conceiving if it's the kind that's bad enough to stop you ovulating!

I'm a strong believer in fate, but DS came along after 2 years of ttc after I started telling myself 'if it's meant to happen it will'.

nunnie · 12/01/2011 11:44

Took me over 4 years with DD and over 2 years with DS. I didn't do anything differently just got on with my life and tried to keep trying to the back of my mind.

Tansy70 · 12/01/2011 15:19

Hey Greeneyes, we haven?t been trying for 2yrs (9mths so far) but wanted to pick you up on the 7% morph as that is the same as my dh. This figured panicked me when I saw it as we were told it was abnormal but he called the embryologist and she said there is nothing for you to worry about as the world health organisation is changing their criteria to anything from 4% and above as normal. Currently they state 15% and above is considered normal. Check out here if you want more details: infertilityblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/sperm-morphology-new-guidelines.html
Anyway, I really do wish you the best of luck.

looseleaf · 12/01/2011 21:11

We took 3 years or so. On my 6th cycle of clomid I decided to try an acupuncturist i read about on Mumsnet who specialises in fertility. It was my only different effort that month as I thought my last chance on clomid and knew we were unlikely to consider ivf. I got pregnant that month! Oddly enough even though he knew my history of ttc he said I hope you won't be back (nicely! as hoped i wouldn't need to) and sure enough i only had 1 session of acupuncture which he told me does happen

Lettie70 · 13/01/2011 14:15

Looseleaf, who is this acupuncturist?? I may have to find him!!

Greeneyesbigbottom · 28/01/2011 10:09

Thanks for your messages - gives me some hope Smile

I'm now on the dreaded 2ww again. IF nothing happens this month then I start on Clomid.

I have managed to relax much more, especially over the Christmas holidays and we had a good chat and decided to chill and let things happen - until I turn on the tv and have the fact that I'm over 35 and barren shoved down my throat!

I hold on to the fact that the consultant said there is no reason why we can't get pregnant.
