All 3 in one night - and NOTHING!

Any other tried and tested methods of inducing labour out there?!

I know I've still got 3 weeks to go according to the hospital, but by my dates, I should be dropping next week!

Getting desperate.....

get your DH to massage your feet! that is supposed to set off contractions according to the lady who did the ante-natal classes i went to!

harpsichordcarrier · 28/09/2005 08:38

long walks - if you can stand it...
nipple stimulation! ditto, but you need to do it a LOT.
but if the baby isn't ready to come....
5% of babies arrive on their dd
of the rest, 30% and 70% after

sweetkitty · 28/09/2005 08:53

I keep telling you plan something nice with your DP for next week, something you cannot do with a newborn, go see a movie and have a nice meal. Guaranteed baby will appear and thwart your plans, if not you still get a night out from it.

I know it's no comfort but I do think they come when they are ready nothing we can do about it. I know this one will be late as I expect it to be early like DD.

Bozza · 28/09/2005 09:01

Think you are being a bit optimistic because even though I would believe your dates over the hospital you've still got a week to go.

Anyway long walks (well about 2 miles in a hilly area feels like forever at 40 weeks pg) worked for me both times. Bit tedious at the time but then went into labour in the early hours (3 ish) both times.

morningpaper · 28/09/2005 09:21

What food normally gives you the squits? Worth trying...

flamebat · 28/09/2005 09:27

I had the pineapple plus milk of magnesia in the same sitting... enough MoM for laxative effect... started 3.30am next morning.

Go to Boots, buy some clary sage oil from their althernative therapies section. Mix it with some olive oil and massage it into your bump. I started having contactions there and then.

RosiePosie · 28/09/2005 09:55

I didn't start having contractions in Boots! I made sure I went home first. . .

hunkermunker · 28/09/2005 09:56

Was Jess early or late?

flamebat · 28/09/2005 09:59

LOL RP - Visions of you rubbing your bump in Boots

Frizbe · 28/09/2005 10:00

lol RP, J&BM maybe if you just chill out a bit, this bump might decide to co-operate?! sounds to me like its being stubborn on purpose! which parent is it taking after?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 10:48

DEfinately taking after its father!

Im giving up now..... ill just have to cope with being a grumpy pissed off fat bloater until this baby decided to appear!

Wont tell DH of course.... the sex is the only thing making all this worth while!!!

lol@JM! awww that's not fair is it!

Rachey1969 · 28/09/2005 18:23

Further to the nipple stimulation, apparently you do need to keep at it (!) I read somewhere that a breast pump helps!

Enid · 28/09/2005 18:25

but you are only 37 weeks! chill out, you've probably got another month to go! Get as much rest as you can.

respect for managing a curry and sex in one night when 37 weeks pg though

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/09/2005 18:26

sweetkitty · 28/09/2005 18:57

JABM please sign in once a day to let us kmow how you are doing?

It'll happen soon I'm sure!

faithnirvana · 29/09/2005 07:21

I know it sounds a really silly thing to say (and probably totally obvious) but after the birth of my daughter I was so knackered and tired that I really regretted being so desperate for the labour and wish I'd spent that time reading Gina Ford / Tracy Hogg books. I felt that I had been so hung up on the labour and reading pregnancy books that I had not read about how to establish a routine or how to get a baby to have good sleep associations. It was as if to me at the time labour was the "end" and not the "beginning". My Daughter was 4 days late and what brought it on was a long (3 mile) walk round my neighbourhood because I was desperate to get out while I could. I agree with the other post to go and do things you will not be able to do once baby arrives such as: visit museums and quiet places, spend time choosing a book, watch violent things on TV, go to the cinema / theatre, go out for a meal, go up and down stairs, stay at a hotel, go shopping for china or glass, have your hair done, have a non tired conversation with partner, gardening, spend time with non mum friends. Sorry for long post.

Fennel · 29/09/2005 14:34

nothing works. sorry but if there was any good way of bringing on labour do you think any of us would have actually CHOSEN to give birth at 41 or 42 weeks?

I have never had so much sex, raspberry tea, nipple twiddling etc ever as in the 10 days I was overdue last time. all to little avail.
