All 3 in one night - and NOTHING!

Any other tried and tested methods of inducing labour out there?!

I know I've still got 3 weeks to go according to the hospital, but by my dates, I should be dropping next week!

Getting desperate.....

I was eating Pineapple, walking alot and drinking rasberry leaf tea (tea leafs, not tea bags) from my DD, my daughter was born 5 days later. I also tried the Evening primrose oil capsuals to soften cervix, could be these things that worked in the end, worth a try, none of them are unpleasent!

swizzles · 29/09/2005 16:55

hate pineapple

tried everything else except sex. Was overdue by a week and a few days. Had pineapple at lunchtime, hey presto, went into labour that night.

Could have been total coincidence.

BunnyBoo · 29/09/2005 17:04

Well with my ds i was that desperate i went for the "bad" method which should not be recommended, the "caster oil" i toke it 1pm on the wednesday done the hoovering and everything, nothing happened so toke another spoonful at 6pm had a bath went to bed and woke up at 4am in labour and had a show, don't know if it was the caster oil or just my time to pop i was 10 days overdue and desperatly did not want to be induced (which i was booked in for 9am the thursday morning) so glad i done what i done......

But each to there own

kola15 · 29/09/2005 18:39

Im 5 days over due date and tried raspberry leaf tea, sex and spicy food to no avail. Midwife told me today cant be induced for another week! I feel very upset and cried all day!! Any more suggestions on how to get things moving im desperate. Kola15

Fennel · 29/09/2005 19:37

kola5, I did hear that to really work the sex has to be orgasmic and say 3 times in 24 hours. Quite a feat at a week overdue!

janeybops · 29/09/2005 19:44

won't they give you a membrane sweep???

works for some people.

Nbg · 29/09/2005 19:46

The foot pressing thing worked for me.

It makes you squeal but it's well worth it

jodie1984 · 29/09/2005 20:00

i went to the cinema to see willy wonka and the choc factory, half way through it made me jump and my contractions started, so get someone to jump out on you behind a door!

tigerpaws · 30/09/2005 09:22

Not sure if my experience was just coincidence but it worked for me.
I planned a really nice, potentially last baby free weekend with my husband. We went for a really long walk. Probably the furthest I walked through whole pregnancy! Then the next day went for a spicy Thai meal. Labour started that night!
My labour also progressed quite quickly which I'm sure was due to walking around lots during the early stages.
Good luck!

qsack · 30/09/2005 14:37

forgive me, i haven't read all the threads... have two ds's. both 12 days overdue. between the two of them tried everything. was very active with the ds2 as racing around after ds1 but made no difference. i really really think that they will come when they're ready. sorry if this isn't what you want to hear!!! i know it's totally hard to do but try, try, try to enjoy the time you've got, catch up on sleep.......

kola15 · 30/09/2005 16:49

Have decided to go out for a curry tomorrow night, walking to resturant and back then have lots of sex!! Will let you know if this works for me.

triceratops · 30/09/2005 17:33

Sorry if this is TMI

I have just been reading that the prosaglandins in semen are 10 times more effective orally than topically applied IYKWIM.

Must be research from a man

Rachey1969 · 30/09/2005 17:55

Thank god they don't make you eat those prostin pessaries!!!

leggymamba · 30/09/2005 20:59

Had my waters broken. Worked a treat. A bit scary to do at home but if your REALLY fed up and have of a crochet hook hanging around!

lindster · 30/09/2005 21:17

I was having 3 raspberry leaf tea cups a day and spent ages rolling about on a gym ball. My baby came 3 days late but the whole thing only took 11 hrs from first contraction to birth. Id def drink the tea again.

floody · 30/09/2005 22:17

ds1, ds2 and dd3 all came early by two weeks, they say curry and sex works wonders.

Ragtaggle · 01/10/2005 08:11

Cod liver oil - One glass with a third cod liver oil, and two thirds orange juice. Irritates the bowel apparently which in turn irritates the uterus. My friend did it yeasterday and started contracting within four hours!

ngozi001 · 01/10/2005 14:29

I did not want to go over my due date so a day before, I went to my mum's and we went jogging. I had false labour so went out jogging the next day, and she arrived a day after my due date. I'm very sure jogging will help!

kola15 · 02/10/2005 13:04

have tried every single suggestion from all of you and nothing has worked! Never mind i guess baby will come when he/she ready and for now am just going to try to relax. Unfortunatly i have had disapointing midwife care and know nothing about what will happen when i go to see the consultant on thurs to discuss induction. Does anybody have any idea if they induce on the same day or will i be sent away again i will be 12 days over by then. Any comments would be much appreciated!!!

SleepyJess · 02/10/2005 17:24

J&BM, excuse the question but have you tried 'DIY-ing' it? (You don't have to answer! ) If your cervix is ripe and ready then this WILL work and is better than an orgasm induced thro' sex because with DIY it can be repeated and repeated and then when the womb contracts (as it does with all orgasms), it is able to gain momentum.

This have worked for me twice and also for friends I have suggested it to...

I would never recommend the castor oil.. it can loosen the baby's bowels and cause him to have bowel movement before birth and be put at risk of inhaling meconium. I know of a baby who had some very serious and long lasting difficulties caused by meconium inhalation... not worth the risk.

I think it was the hot bath last thing at night that worked for me. DD was three days late. DS was 14 days overdue and I was booked in for an induction about a month before. After I'd 'checked in' early evening, they said the induction would have to wait until the next day because the baby's heart beat was too high, but then contractions started naturally on their own in the night - think it was the sound of all the newborns crying.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 02/10/2005 22:03

Not sure about the DIY thing.... but hey, anything goes right now!

Keen to avoid Castor oil/ Cod liver oil - the thought of it turns my stomach almost as much as pineapple did!

Im fairly chilled out now though, posted this in a moment of madness!

Once my little cherub stops teething, this baby is more than welcome, but im too knackered to push right now!

DIY-ing it is a perfectly normal, natural thing you know... you won't go blind!
