Double buggy, small car

Hi, I'm 4 months pregnant and have a 2 year old who'll be 2.7 when the new baby's born. Our car is a Nissan Note, we've got a Bugaboo Bee at the moment and are struggling to find double buggies that will fit. We haven't tried any yet (will do soon) but based that on the measurements of the boot and online buggy measurements. Does anyone with a small boot car have any suggestions? When we were looking for our first buggy we found that anything that folds umbrella style is too long for the boot.

Hello!

We've noticed that this thread is quite old now, and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing the top-performing pushchairs on the market to find the best small, lightweight double buggy 2019.

Hope that helps! Flowers

Have you tried posting here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pushchair_chat you might get some good responses, those ladies really know their stuff!

I have a Graco Stadium duo, which fits in my small boot (Renault modus). I just have to take the hood off the front seat of the buggy to fit it in but this is very quick to do.

We've hardly used the double buggy though (luckily it only cost me £10 second hand). When DD2 was newborn I generally had her in the sling and DD1 in a single buggy. Now they're a bit older DD1 walks most places while DD2 rides in the buggy, and we use a buggy board for when she gets tired. There's only a 17 month age gap between my girls so DD1 younger than yours will be. Might be worth looking at other options in addition to checking out double buggies.

Baby Jogger City Mini Doubles are good and small when folded. Not sure on dimensions of the Note boot though.

Do you really need a double? How much do you walk? At 2.7 both of my DSes were out of buggies.

EauRudolph · 13/12/2010 20:31

Yes, you may not need one. My DD will be 2.4 when DC2 arrives and we're not bothering with a double buggy. DC2 will be in a sling and when he/she is too big for that then DD will just have to walk Grin I may get a buggy board for long trips. I have a small car too and there's no way I would have got everything in if I got a double buggy.

You do have plenty of time to get your elder DC used to walking.

And you will end up walking at toddler pace anyway while pg, so good practice at doing the slooowwwww walking.

Have you tried a Maclaren specifically? I could get that in my Nissan Micra boot which I would have thought is smaller than the Note. Baby Jogger City Mini will probably not fit but might be worth a try. The best thing is to go to some shops and try some out before buying.

Abr1de · 14/12/2010 15:41

I used to get a double Maclaren into my old corsa's boot, with no trouble.

notheroldie · 14/12/2010 15:49

I got a new Mclaren and found it was quite a bit bigger than my previous one, and thus sticks up and is a bugger to get in my boot.(I have a Merc A class and the boot is tiny), Some shops will let you 'try' and get a folded buggy in your boot, always worth asking, and only of course if you can park outside.

I still use mine even tho my DS is 3 and half, if you have distances to go, or need to get somewhere fast, or its cold, or they are tired, its quicker to use the buggy than expect them to walk.

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile

I'm not 100% sure we'll need a double, we don't do a huge amount of walking - likely only to the shops (either 15 mins (my pace - likely 30 mins or more toddler pace) or sometimes to further shops half an hour away. Otherwise it's mainly to the park or the odd trek round national trust gardens. My main worry is I can't carry the baby in a sling because of back problems, and I certainly can't carry DD1 if something happens (major tantrum/extreme tiredness) and she can't/won't walk. Also I'm a bit concerned that DD1 might feel like the new baby's stealing her buggy and she won't be happy! And as notheroldie says, if it's really cold (ie the next winter) or peeing with rain I won't be too thrilled about walking at a snails pace to get somewhere if I've only got a single.

I'll get over to Mothercare to what I can fit in and then decide whether to definitely get one or not.

Zimbah Good luck with the buggy hunt.

Do let us know what you find that fits. I have the same problem coming up but my car is a Kia Picanto SE with a tiny boot, unfortunately there are no large baby shops nearby where I can try the what fits in my boot routine.

So i'd be happy when any ideas received. The main problem with online measurements is as our boot is narrower at the top because of the window curve, if it does fit in it doesn't guarantee i'll be able to actually shut the boot Confused

I have a Nissan Micra. I can fit a Phil and Ted's Sport with a doubles kits on. A maclaren also fits.

Good luck.
