I know they're only trying to be helpful but OMG I think I might punch the next person who suggests it

...have you tried ginger biscuits?

haha i'm only joking! i really hope you feel better soon x

minibmw2010 · 25/11/2010 15:37

You poor thing, I hope you manage to find something you can stomach soon. I haven't had sickness as bad as that (thankfully) but my husband bought me ginger biscuits and ginger-ale and I can't stand either ..

caramellokoalalover · 25/11/2010 15:42

Have you tried seabands? Wink

I get that one all the time! I usually tell the kind person that I took them off in A&E and threw them in the bin whilst vomitting. Grin

Rocklover · 25/11/2010 16:08

I feel your pain! I detest ginger, it makes me want to barf even when i'm not pregnant!

Dp (trying to be helpful bless him) bought me a bag of crystalised ginger to snack on...he ate them in the end!

ShuffleBallChange · 25/11/2010 16:11

Even seeing that g word makes me want to vomit. Lots. Good luck and ignore everyone giving 'good advice'. All I will say is try to take little frequent sips of water, even if you bring it up again you will retain a teeny bit and it does help. A bit. All the best...............Smile

neolara · 25/11/2010 16:11

Poor you. It's vile to feel so sick.

(A friend who was in hospital for weeks with hyperemesis swore by chewing gum.)

gillykins2011 · 25/11/2010 16:17

it does make me laugh as they suggest it as tho its a completely new invention that you haven't heard of it - have you ermmm, tried ginger - biscuits or tea - I've heard its really good!

Oh my, oh my - no I've been living in a weird alien land with my head stuffed down the toilet for the last 8 weeks - must have missed that breaking news - duh!!!

Or one of my friends in a different country wondered if we could get ginger tea living here - well I'm sure if I could stomach it I could but given I am throwing up 6-7 times a day and spend the rest of my time on the sofa or in bed then I will give it a miss.

Have to say I succumbed to anti nausea drugs today at 11 weeks as I just needed a day of respite and mines not even hyperemesis - te just being sick 6-7 times in the morning and from 5pm. I have only been sick twice so far and have felt much less nauseous - I hate myself for taking them but have managed to go for a walk today which is a big achievement!

Good luck and I hope it passes soon...

sethstarkaddersmum · 25/11/2010 16:20

DO NOT try the ginger biscuits.
I gave all the gingery things a really good go and now I can't stand ginger because of the associations.
DH is always putting really big lumps of it in his stirfries Hmm

LilyBolero · 25/11/2010 16:22

I so know where you're coming from! The only things that helped me were ice cold water, and chilled melon and grapes. Hope you're feeling better soon.

marriednotdead · 25/11/2010 16:25

I found eating constant carbs worked for me. Hot cross buns were a particular help.

Mewli · 25/11/2010 16:27

Hi there

Sorry to hear you have hyperemesis. I had it earlier on in my pregnancy. I am 35 weeks now. Nothing helped it was vile. Thankfully it passed, I am just left with horrible headaches and terrible weakness. :)

Sugarmuppet · 25/11/2010 16:31

I am always banging on about this but - ACCUPUNCTURE! 26 weeks of sickness, a month in hospital, 2 weeks on no food what so ever passing my lips....1 hour of accupuncture and I managed a bowl of soup and wasn't sick again. (although it took me the rest of my pregnancy to recover from lack of food during that time).

Massive massive un-mums net hugs to anyone suffering just now, it is the pits. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/11/2010 16:31

Oh god I had this when I was pregnant with DS. I was so bloody fed up of people (my mother!!!) saying 'oh I used to put a couple of ginger biscuits by the bed to eat when I woke up, you should try it'. WTF? Do you not think that I've tried every bloody thing? I am vomiting 20+ times a day and can't even get any fluids into me you stupid idiots!

In the end, DH used to bring me lumps of frozen cheese with cucumber in bed in the mornings. Normally after I'd puked 3/4 times I could manage that and it would stay down for a bit so that I could drink some water.

Really hope you feel better soon :( This pregnancy I have only had normal morning sickness, and it has been like a walk in the park compared with HG. You really have my sympathies.

becaroo · 25/11/2010 16:32

Sorry you are so ill.

Anyone suggested bananas? They have lots of potassium in, a lack of which has been linked in some studies to pregnany sickness.

HTH x

Sugarmuppet · 25/11/2010 16:33

Ali You have just made my day! I thought once you had it once you would def get it in next pregnancy.

becaroo · 25/11/2010 16:37

oh, and I tried ginger (ugh) sea bands and sniffing freshly cut lemon (i know!) and nothing worked really except bananas and tiny amounts of really bland carbs every 2 hours Sad

Meglet · 25/11/2010 16:59

My GP prescribed me Avomine when I couldn't keep water down. It did the trick Smile.

Those 'morning sickness' weeks were miserable.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 25/11/2010 19:18

I had HEG with DS up to 14/15 weeks. At the beginning when I told my mw how often I was being sick and how bad it was she gave me the "we like it when you're sick" line. when I was hospitalised at 13 weeks after collapsing she finally changed her tune.

Sorry, I haven't really got any words of wisdom, nothing helped for me apart from anti-sickness drugs and Hartmans IVs, but big hugs to you and hope you get through it soon.

Btw, some people may suggest you eat rice because it's part of the whole BRATY thing (bananas, rice, apple puree, toast, yoghurt) that a lot of people swear by for all sorts of stomach bugs and sickness.
Don't.
It might get stuck in your nose.... Confused

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/11/2010 19:30

Ivy - bleugh, but yes! I found the same with recently eaten toast.... Envy

becaroo · 25/11/2010 21:42

I was prescribed avomine too meglet

It did help.

Bonkerz · 25/11/2010 21:44

i was prescribed meds which have only just kicked in afetr 3 weeks of taking them but i think im on top of the sickness now after losing 2 and a half stone in just over 6 weeks and by only eating carbs......not a great diet but atleast its staying down! also found drinking ice cold lemonade and water helped alot too.

giraffescantdancelikeannw · 25/11/2010 21:47

you need to speak to pavlovthecat she had this really badly. I have to admit I think of ginger biscuits hwenever I see her name as I remember her psoting similar op to you.

3littlefrogs · 25/11/2010 21:48

Sipping very cold fizzy water all the time seemed to help me a little....

Also - I found I could eat a couple of teaspoonsful of boiled rice with pureed cooked veg once an hour.

Sounds disgusting, but I just couldn't cope with anything that required much digesting.

At least when it came up again it wasn't too traumatic. (Sorry TMI)

sarahscot · 25/11/2010 21:49

I had cyclizine which helped enormously. It didn;t stop the sickness but it made normal functioning possible. The trick is just getting it to stay down long enough . . .

BikeRunSki · 25/11/2010 21:49

I was hospitalised for 6 weeks with hyperemisis 2.5 years ago. After I was discharged I found than melting ice cubes in my mouth and eating yellow ice lollies (if i was up to eating anything) helped keep me hydrated enough to keep going. I could also managed red cuppa soup, slowly, with a teaspoon.

Stemetil helped too. I also had metroclopromide and cyclizine. DS is fine.
