I am so hungry all the time (only 5 weeks!) but I also feel sick most of the time and don't really feel like eating if those two things together don't sound too contradictory Grin

What things have you really wanted to eat?
Has it hit the spot? Or not?
What has helped your sickness?
What have you gone off?
What really churns your stomach?

Come on let's hear it! Food is always on my mind and I am sure I am not the only oneGrin
Perhaps we can give each other some tips for beating the nausea and vomiting/cravings/healthy stuff etc.

At the minute I don't fancy anything, and if I do, I have to have it NOW because I won't feel like anything in 5 minutesGrin
Like last time, I was looking forward to the excuse to indulge in chocolate but disappointingly I have gone off itConfused

Lime pickle. Oh yes. Bring it on. With Poppadoms.

Cheesy, or salt and vinegar crisps go down well too. The more fake the cheese taste, the better. I could probably eat a packet of cheese powder. Cheese strings are good. Pickled Onion Monster Munch are the way forward as well.

Sweets too, unfortunately.

Meringues. Yes.

8rubberduckies · 18/11/2010 13:27

Don't change your name to hulahoops broccolitrees, I will probably hunt you down and try to eat you.

Icklelilly · 18/11/2010 13:29

OOOh Burgen linseed - love it toasted but cold and hard, smothered in marge and strawberry jam....I'll make do with the packet of milk chocolate digestives I'm currently working my way through though...

JBrd - I'm going to try the cream cheese option - sounds tasty.

Fruit and veg not playing a major starring role although I'm forcing myself to eat at least 5 a day.. as a result, i now REALLY hate apples and carrots.

MaryMungo · 18/11/2010 13:54

Potatoes. Lots of potatoes. Crisps, baked beans and mash, jacket potatoes with cheese, scrambled eggs over pommes anna. Mmmmm....

Can't do meat, I've just been eating the veg at supper. Can't do hot tea (can drink it room temp, for some reason Confused). Can't do anything with a tomato sauce. Can't do fruit.

Will have to try that ginger cordial. My last pregnancy I survived on lemon peel and ginger steeped in hot chicken broth. I hope the morning sickness actually goes away, this time round....

stegasaurus · 18/11/2010 16:57

For the first 12 weeks I lived off plain cereal, ready salted crisps, cream crackers, chips, soup and fruit pastille/ fruit gum type sweets. The sweets were for when I was at work where usually isn't time for a break in 8hrs so they kept me going. I now really appreciate being able to eat a variety of foods again.

lucielooo · 18/11/2010 17:02

when I felt really sick could only eat ryvita with marmite and philadelphia on.. Didn't last long though thankfully!

Deliaskis · 18/11/2010 17:19

What things have you really wanted to eat?
Cheese, meat, gravy, really savoury things with strong flavours, as well as a consciousness that I need to eat lots of fruit and veg. Suddenly started eating bananas which I have never liked.

Has it hit the spot? Or not?
Yes.

What has helped your sickness?
I just nibbled on crackers early on, but the nausea didn't last long. I was still throwing up later on but had no nausea, and fresh fruit juice helped with that.

What have you gone off?
Earlier on I was off wine and tea, but now am pretty much happy with anything.

What really churns your stomach?
Nothing.

D

JBrd · 18/11/2010 17:25

And although I am really into carbs at the moment, I don't fancy chips, and the one thing I can't stand is the smell of fatty foods - walking past a chip shop really makes my stomach churn. But then again it did that before pregnancy and is probably a good thing!

jillamona · 18/11/2010 17:57

i'm so glad i'm not the only one. am 10 weeks with my first and unless i am eating i feel sick. am also waking up in the night to eat. on the plus side, i am craving fruit like apples and pears as well as chocolate and crisps. can't look at cheese though and i used to love it. am going to be the size of a house by the time i'm done!

broccolitrees · 18/11/2010 18:02

i have decided that my best time is mid afternoon. i feel sick and rather apathetic about food til about 3ish then i feel sick again from about 6ish onwards.
made a curry, ate half and feel sick, not really enjoying any food at the minute. think i might do but then it fails miserably to meet expectation Envy bleurgh

Ooooo tuc biscuits.....

This really is the thread for all the worst food ideas! I am 8 weeks now and have become obsessed with really buttery toast, mini cheddars, crisps, bananas and best of all ... vitamin B6. I can not tell you how much is has helped - I take about 30mg spread over the day (the one just before I go to bed is v important) and I feel soooo much better! I am only feeling dodgy for about 20 mins before I am actually sick but then it is back to normal, although even more hungry for the bad stuff. Unfortunatly it doesn't stop me being sick so I am still tuck with my head down the toilet 2 to 3 times a day, but the rest of the time is glorious after feeling so rubbish for ages! Please try it - you never know!

mrsbigw · 18/11/2010 19:44

I live off a certain food for a few days then one time I will eat it & it makes me sick so I can't touch it again.

The foods I have managed have been bland & like so many other ladies on here, fake cheesey! Wotsists, packet pasta in cheese sauce, tinned cheese ravioli. Very odd as I don't usually eat dairy. Again I can't stand the smell of the food but am OK when eating.

Most days I can eat burgen bread or sometimes white bread with the odd banana too.

I had 2 apples yesterday & it was the 1st time I have eaten anything green in over 2 months. Again v odd for me as I usually live off steamed veg, fresh juices etc.

Is no wonder I feel like sh** & have no energy but I just can't stand my usual foods, especially anything with a hint of garlic or onion, in fact pretty much anything.

Every pregnancy I have I really can't stand chinese food or peppers but this time (12 weeks with #4) it has been ridiculous, even walking through the fruit and veg aisle at tesco made me 9dry) heave today?! V embarrasing! Blush

mrsbigw · 18/11/2010 19:44

(dry)*

superchick · 18/11/2010 20:47

Thank you all for assuring me that I am not too strange and not alone! I am having to force myself to try and eat fruit and veg and considering I normally love a variety of things I'm now getting my vits entirely through sultanas, bananas and juice. I fluctuate between not being able to eat a thing and being starving. Am about 7 weeks. Today I had my first burger king in about 6 years and it was amazing - I can't possibly develop a love of whoppers or I'll end up the size of a house!

I'm loving porrige with a grated apple for breakfast and then just live everyone else: crisps and crackers are my staple. I manage to eat meat when I catch myself at the right moment but this can be quite hit and miss. Drinking water is not hitting the spot like it usually does and I have also gone off "normal" tea in favour of ginger tea and fizzy drinks.

Pleeeease let this end, it's driving me mad. Also the tiredness is preventing me from keeping up my usual swimming and pilates routines.

Zipitydoda · 18/11/2010 23:39

Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese!

Not much else. Preparing my DCs food makes me gag and I can't sit with them when they eat or I will puke! Poor children!

Also mc Donalds egg mc muffins (no sausage) are nice at breakfast time! By lunchtime I have gone off food.

I am 12 weeks and hope this will diminish soon!

broccolitrees · 19/11/2010 06:03

trying to force down some muesli with banana as i have to go to work in about 15 minutes - eeuurgh!

millimurphy · 19/11/2010 07:00

Keep wanting oranges, other than that don't tend to feel hungry.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 19/11/2010 10:41

It used to be my favourite vegetable... when pregnant it makes me puke too.

But honestly OP... I think it's whatever gets you through. As long as you are eating and gaining an appropriate amount of weight the embryo/foetus will find what it needs from you.

bananarama05 · 20/11/2010 10:15

Just wanted to say this thread has made me smile and feel much better about my appalling diet of late!

I'm very relieved to find I'm not the only one living off fizzy drinks (undecided on whether diet being full of crap or full fat being full of sugar is worse??), cheesy anything especially tinned macaroni cheese, plain toast and ready salted crisps.

Worst thing? Cooking bacon makes me very very nauseous (am 12 weeks today and haven't been sick yet, just spend approx. 20 mins a day at various points in the toilet heaving). Even the thought of peppers makes me feel ill and am rapidly going off garlic for the aftertaste the next morning.

I too can't stand anything I've cooked, maybe I could ask for a chef for Xmas? Don't think dp would be too pleased!

broccolitrees · 20/11/2010 13:32

just had broccoli cauliflower cheese - it absolutely stank while being cooked, but it was really good.

I ordered a organic veg box when I found out I was pregnant and now I have had to cancel it because preparing vegetables that I have not heard of (big green leafy)make me feel so sick I cant do it!!

I am liking crisps, mini tescos type magnum ice creams and fruit lollies (very good)

Also fizzy water with fizzy lemon drink in (has to be very cold from the fridge) ...with a straw (that makes all the difference)

nutbag!

Nanc123 · 23/11/2010 14:03

its so nice to hear that the supermarket makes other people queasy - its a complex thing!

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 23/11/2010 14:23

Broccoli-I'm just six weeks and my appetite has gone mad- I have two breakfasts (one when I get up, one two hours later before I start work) then a huge packed lunch, then snacks in the afternoon, then big meaty pasta dinner and chocolate!
Before I ate like a sparrow, only 1-2 meals a day, now I start to feel panicky if I don't eat at very exact times!

Rocklover · 23/11/2010 14:35

For the last two weeks my "really need" foods have been chocolate Hobnobs and cheese flavour Quavers. I still feel nauseous at 30 weeks and I can always eat these things without a problem.

I have been addicted to Pepsi/Coke, but have now managed to intersperse that with elderflower cordial (absolutely divine when really thirsty).

The only good thing I seem to crave every few days are apples, so I always make sure I have a fridge full.

And yes I have put on weight, I look like a Bhudda!

StiffyByng · 23/11/2010 15:07

I felt nauseous all the time from about 7 weeks to 14 weeks. I mostly ate toast with marmite and Quavers. I drank vast quantities of fizzy water. I also lost my appetite so I only wanted tiny meals when I did eat. I couldn't bear the smell of cooking food - still not keen on that - so I had to have things just presented to me! I'm 17 weeks now and having lost half a stone am yet to put anything back on. I did have a BMI of 32 to start with though so I'm not sure this is a tragedy for me or the baby.

Other people I know have sworn by protein, even things like pork pie and scotch eggs.
