I don't. I want this baby but I feel so crap. I'm on metaclopramide and it's helping but I'm still being sick at least twice in the morning and feel sick (and exhausted) all day. Have a 2.7 yr old.
I just want it to stop. 12 weeks now so shouldn't be long as it stopped by about 16 weeks with Ds but the though of another 4 weeks of this living hell after already having suffered 5 weeks of it makes me want to cry.
I just can't fucking stand the constant nausea. I wish it was just the puking. I can't stand feeling like I'm going to puke constantly.
Sorry. Feeling sorry for myself today.

jimmeeeeeeee!!!! I didn't know you were pg! CONGRATULATIONS!!! email me lovely, tell me all!

PussinJimmyChoos · 09/11/2010 14:14

Pav - I don't have your e-mail anymore

I thought you knew I was preggers! Grin Took nearly two years, finally decided to see a consultant at Bupa to speed things up, he checked with Dildo-cam, said all looked ok but needed more bloods to see what was what. Meanwhile, he prescribed Clomid to take when next cycle started....we forked out just over £300 and didn't even get a chance to take the meds - got pg the next week! I joke with DH that the £300 is coming out of baby's gift money when it arrives!

Baby due, God Willing, 25th March..DS keeps kissing my tummy and its nicknamed Jellybean atm Smile

How's your lovely DD and DS?

PavlovtheCat · 09/11/2010 16:32

look at the top you plum! you can email on MN these days you know! we are all good, I really hope you feel better with the HG soon, I had it through the entire pg with the cub and it is the pits.

PussinJimmyChoos · 09/11/2010 16:44

Oh yeah had forgotten about that!

HG is a lot better now - thankfully! But, do you find it really puts you off having more?

Attitudes to it don't help either -because you are not actually being physically sick in some cases, people find it hard to really see what you are going through

I can remember going back to work and being told by one of the female managers (and I stress the fact that she was female as I would have thought another woman would have been more sympathetic) saying oh I expected you to look quite washed out but you actually look quite healthy ...but, I didn't actually lose weight - I was bedridden for most of the time and snacking nearly every hour - the weight went on if anything, not off!

SantasMooningArse · 09/11/2010 16:50

I had hyperemesis with ds1 and had to be hospitalised for rehydration; I went on to have more children and I got HG every time but at diminishing rates, with the last one it was probably more of the very bad mrning sickness variety tbh but the GP gave me meds anyhow due to history.

I spent some time on a (now defunct) helpline dor HG and tbh it seemed to be 50-50 whether the mums got it agin or not. So tehre is hope. And it tends IME to e less horrid if tis picked up and treated before the body starts going into dehydration / malnutrition.

Good luck

PavlovtheCat · 09/11/2010 16:58

I found people attitudes towards it appalling. I had some issues at work which resulted in me defriending all my work colleagues, as once I dared to go camping after a period of time off work, a camping trip where I lie around and had all my friends and DH looking after me, in my wonderful soulpad, and then padded to the beach where I did a bit more lying around with my friends and their children playing with my DD. I mentioned how this weekend was great for my health, and lo and behold it got gossiped about 'she cant be that ill if she can swan off to newquay for the weekend, alright for some eh?' 'its just a bit of morning sickness ffs why can't she just get over it like everyone else does' 'you would think she is the only person to have ever felt a bit sick' etc. not nice at all.

alas as i had it with both children it has severely put me off having another one, yes. BUT, it is absolutely amazing to have two and I do not regret it one little bit.

PussinJimmyChoos · 09/11/2010 17:11

Pav that is awful! I managed the odd shopping trip with it and I was always worried that if I got seen, people would think I was coming it. In fact, one time I was feeling gross when out so scarfed two burgers from BKing and I was thinking if anyone from work saw me, they would think I was abolutely taking the piss!

I actually got it worse with this one than with DS...not sure if had a 3rd if it would be worse again Shock

What causes it? I always thought it was a reaction to the progesterone but would have thought my body would me more used to it 2nd time around iyswim?

PavlovtheCat · 09/11/2010 18:54

I read an interesting article about it actually which suggested that severe sickness was to do with your body being ultra-efficient at flushing out all possible toxins from the body, thus from the baby as well and as a consequence potentially producing babies with higher IQs...so, the sicker you are, the more of a genius you are likely to have Wink. I will try to find the article i read.

So, instead of paying attention to what the government tells us we can/cant eat, we listen to our bodies !! (for example, i ate a lot of peanut butter, and decided, if that was the only thing my body would let me eat, it could not be bad for me Grin).

purepurple · 09/11/2010 19:09

Pavlov, like your theories Grin
I had hyperemis both pregnancies. I was absolutely knocked out by it both times. It's one of the reasons I have 7 years between my 2 DC.
I didn't have travel sickness before getting pregnant, didn't have a ginger baby (one dark, one blonde) but they are not thick either.
My body is ultra effecient at getting rid of toxins, I can't handle my alcohol and have terrible hangovers, wonder if this is related?

daisystone · 09/11/2010 19:38

I have read that you have a very healthy pregnancy/baby if you suffer from bad Morning sickness. No idea if this is true.

kitten30 · 09/11/2010 21:32

Pavlovthecat..oh do try to find the article. I suffer awful hangovers too and have a lot of glucose in my urine when pregnant..wonder if there is a link?

PavlovtheCat · 09/11/2010 21:36

i am looking...found some articles relating to high iq/baby brain development and hyperemesis, but not the article i read...will keep looking til i find it!

SantasMooningArse · 10/11/2010 00:05

I've read about the toxins IIRC but in truth I went on with ds1 to develop eclampsia later on, and 2 of my babies are disabled (ASD)>

I do beleive it's about being over receptive tom pregnancy hormones mainly, something quite simple but horrid.

rudbekia · 10/11/2010 08:26

am sorry you're suffering. am pg with my first and really suffered with sickness from about wk 6/7 to wk 14/15. i would be sick in the morning but the worst time was evening when i could be sick, literally, every half hour. i couldn't stand the thought, sight or smell of food. poor DH lived on oven dinners for the best part of two months (he didn't complain that much Grin)

i had to see the emergancy GP twice for anti-nausea injections, DH not too happy about it, but i wasn't keeping ANYTHING down and was getting dehydrated. i saw a very sympathetic female GP who prescribed pills (prochlorperazine) which also helped (i didn't end up needing to take that many, fortunately) and very slowly it started to lift. not only was the constant nausea a real pain, i was also exhausted and spent as much time as possible alseep on the sofa!

things that did help:
eating first thing - having something to throw up does make a difference!

lots of fluids either hot or cold

ice-lollies

fresh fruit esp. apples

plain rice cakes and ready salted crisps

boiled sweets

if i didn't eat before 5pm i would throw up whatever i ate afterwards. i did lose 1/2 stone and struggled at work, but i did get through it.

big, big BIG hugs to you xxxr

PussinJimmyChoos · 10/11/2010 09:33

I am liking the IQ theory Grin

I was sicker with this one than with DS..maybe it is because I am nearly 5 years older...

All theories aside, we need more help and support for HG..especially from employers as there is this mentality that if you are eating/walking around, you are fine and that just isn't the case AT ALL. I could have cheerfully twatted the manager for that you look healthy comment!!

Lisahad · 19/10/2012 18:10

Hi there all
I've been reading all your posts and just wondered whether anyone who experienced HG twice could tell me whether it lasted the same amount of time? I had HG in my first pregnancy and it stopped after 13wks,,, I'm pregnant for the second time and never contemplated that I could have HG again - I have felt that poorly that I would not have tried for another child if I knew I would be going through this hell again.... I'm 11 weeks now and desperate to know whether things will start easing soon.

Amnewtoallthis · 19/10/2012 18:35

Haven't had HG but my morning sickness is much worse this pregnancy. I found drinking warm water with fresh lemon in has been like a lifesaver- the dehydration you get when afraid to drink or eat (as I am) must make things worse. I wake up at 2am every night wanting to be sick - theres nothing in my tummy. Keep lemon-aid in a flask by the bed for those moments. Good luck everyone it WILL be sp worth it xx

Mrsb999 · 19/10/2012 18:48

I agree with Icedlemonmuffin metraclopromide did nothing for me, I too was hospitalised at 8 weeks and put on a drip and am still taking cyclizine at 18 wks which has been a godsend and really helped me manage the sickness, I'm still sick one a day first thing but I can deal with that!

Hope things get better for you soon xxx

pipoca · 19/10/2012 18:59

Wow, talk bout a blast from the past! I started this thread almost 2 years ago...was a bad time. DD is now 17 months and absolutely GORGEOUS! I stayed on the metaclopramide all the way through and continued to puke most days, but only once and sometimes didn't puke. So, it helped but it was a long hard pregnancy and I'll never ever be doing it again. 2 HG pregnancies is enough and apparently it gets worse each time. Also, there is only metaclopramide here and it wasn't that great for me.
I really really feel for anyone suffering HG, but it does end eventually I promise, even though that seems a long way off now. It's hard as well, as people who haven't experienced it don't really get it. It's a bit like being allergic to pregnancy or being poisoned by your unborn child. There's a FB group for HG which is great support:

Ooops didn't notice that! Thanks for the Facebook link though x

Lisahad · 20/10/2012 10:53

Please please could someone tell me whether they suffered HG in more than one pregnancy and if so whether they're symptoms lasted the same amount of time? Am now 11 weeks in my second pregnancy and it stopped at 13 weeks last time....

glossyflower · 20/10/2012 11:20

lisa I can't give advice as I'm on pg number 1 however try the hyperemesis support thread in here. There are plenty of ladies with advice there. Xxx

ifIsaynodontjustaskdad · 20/10/2012 11:23

Much sympathy, just had third hg pregnancy, ending up thinner leaving hospital than before pregnancy.

Nothing but drugs helped me with the nausea I'm afraid, so I can't help there.

I found flat soda water helped neutralize the acid when I threw up so it was less painful. Milk apparently does the same, but the smell made me heave. Discovered this in pg3 having thrown up blood in previous pg due to the stomach acid.

What I wish is known but didn't was that by brushing my teeth immediately after every time I threw up I should have rinsed with water, then mouth wash and waited half an hour before brushing. Mint smells made me nauseous so may not have worked for me, but I wish my other dentist had told me earlier. Acid erosion of my back teeth after all those years of hg has resulted in my first fillings..

pipoca · 20/10/2012 13:28

Lisahad I'm sorry but I had HG til about 20 weeks with ds but all the way through with DD. It was better on metaclopramide, but I still puked. Go to the doctor and get some meds, you may need to try different combinations. Go on the FB support group, it's great and there's a support thread for HG on here too.

Thanks for messages Smile I had a serious life threatening reaction to meds to help with HG first pregnancy so the only med they can offer me is promethazine... Also used as a sedative for operations so I can only take a small dosage otherwise I would sleep all day and not drink, be dehydrated and be back in hospital on a drip Sad so the dosage I'm taking isn't controlling it that well Sad just hope it doesn't last much longer. Sick of being permanently attached to my sofa Angry
