I've got my 20 week scan next week and do not want to find out the sex, however i really love old wives tales and was wondering of those of you who know what you are having how do you carry them??!! i.e if you're having a boy are you all out front and if a girl, more around the hips???

I'm having a girl and I'm all out front.

strumble · 14/10/2010 21:29

I'm having a boy and I'm all out front

sam26oscar · 14/10/2010 21:30

well, already thats blown my theory out of the water!!! I was all out front with DS1 and am again carrying out front and therefore thought a boy, just goes to show that they really are just old wives tales!!!! But its fun guessing Grin

I was so sure that I had the key to this and was starting my own 'New' wives tale that fuller/slightly puffy face at the end = a girl, no facial puffiness = a boy.

But my friend recently had a boy, and she was quite puffy so she's mucked it up for me.......back to the drawing board!

However, I have a girl and carried differently with her. I had the puffy face and my bump was slightly more spread around the sides. This time I still have a definite waist from the front and no puffiness - I'm due tomorrow so not long to wait and see if the physical differences actually mean anything!

oooh moominmarvellous come back and let us know!!! Best of luck with impending birth!!! x

Mine is over sickness levels. Always think its a girl if someone suffers alot from morning sickness.

With me anyway, I was so, so ill with dd, no MS with ds and am now sick as a dog with this one so am completely convinced its a girl.

It will of course be a boy then. Grin

Try the wedding/ engagement ring on the chain over your palm thing. Am convinced that really does work, wierdly enough.

clarabellarocks · 14/10/2010 22:10

I'm all out front just as I was the first time. First time it was a girl!! Not sure this time but think the carrying all at the front is just dependant on your genes and the baby as opposed to the sex judging from this!

faverolles · 14/10/2010 22:11

I carried both of my boys all over - and I mean all over! DD, I stayed in my normal jeans until 5 months or so.
I had ms with dd and with ds2, but none with ds1.

This one, I'm carrying it like dd, but have had no ms to speak of, and think I saw a willy on the scan, so who knows!

ayjayjay · 14/10/2010 22:15

I carried my DD all out front, from the back you wouldn't know I was pregnant.
No morning sickness but my work colleague was sick as a dog with her DS so that theory no good either :)

Muser · 14/10/2010 22:20

My SIL threw up every day of both her pregnancies. Both boys.

lucy101 · 14/10/2010 22:33

I was softer and rounder with my DD and pointier and neater with this one which is a boy (a few people have remarked on this as my pregnancies have been so close together we can all remember). I also had terrible MS with the DD and not this time. I knew I was having a girl last time and knew it was a boy this time... I just had a very strong sense of it.

SlaughteredSheep · 15/10/2010 07:19

I was all at the front last time, no MS and had a girl.
This time it's all at the front, had no MS and is also a girl.

However, I think that it's just the way that I tend to be pg. If I ever put weight on it tends to go to tummy anyway, rarely on my thighs on bum, so I do think that it's down to the shape of the woman.

I know people who have carried each pregnancy differently and had the same sex each time and I know people who have carried the same and had different sexes.

Last time I craved sweet foods whereas this time I'm craving savoury.

Sarahlou8 · 15/10/2010 09:21

I had two identical pregnancies, carried the same way, felt sick at the same times and had one of each!
The only difference was that I was bigger second time around, and DS was a pound heavier at birth, but he cooked for 8 days longer too so may have had something to do with it!!

CrazyPlateLady · 15/10/2010 09:44

I had a DS last time, this time I have been told it is a DD, and I am pretty sure it is. I am carrying the same as last time and the pregnancies are pretty much identical. Only difference is I can feel DD laying a lot lower than DS was. I can feel her banging into my cervix, not pleasant at all.

MissCKitty · 15/10/2010 18:48

I am 23 weeks with a little girl and I too am all front. I look like I have a football shoved up my t-shirt. Grin

MissCKitty · 15/10/2010 18:48

Ooooops that should be 25 weeks........ doh!

StrangewaysHereICome · 15/10/2010 20:01

I carried all out front with my first two pg's and both were girls. I am much bigger all round this time, feeling much sicker and thought I saw a willy on the scan so who knows!!

Tillyscoutsmum · 15/10/2010 20:04

I carried all out front with both dd and ds. I lost weight everywhere else and my legs looked like pipe cleaners (for the first and last time in my life Grin)

I had a reflexologist when pg with ds who was positive you could tell the gender by pressing a certain part of your foot. She told me ds was most definitely a dd Wink

TheMulledBloodsOnMe · 15/10/2010 21:05

No, I carry both sexes the same- all waaaay out front Grin

sweetkitty · 15/10/2010 21:11

Carried all four the exact same, all out front, felt suck the same, went off food except for sour things like orange juice. All four the same, 3 girls, 1 boy, boy felt no different at all.

Old wives tales are just that, fun but not fact

TwoScooters · 15/10/2010 21:16

I dont want to spoil this thread but.... this subbject makes me laugh so much cos I had BOY GIRL twins and the stuff people used to say to me, when out and about, was MAD.

I had mad old ladies saying this stuff to me, and more worryingly, very sensible intelligent friends ( who i hadn't yet told I was expecting mixed sex twins ) that " I must be having a boy DEFINATELY cos of the shape of my bump"

Or cos my heart burn was v v bad, it must, must be a girl. hilarious !

But trust me if u ever are as big as a house with twins you need a laugh desperately.

sweetkitty · 18/10/2010 12:38

It is funny as even when you tell people the sex, they doubt it, "oh no that is a boy bump are you sure it's not a boy?"

So they are better at guessing the sex from the shape of a bump than a trained sonographer pointing out a penis or lack of!!

You got to laugh

PJen · 18/10/2010 13:27

I am carrying a lil girl and I am carrying it spread on my tummy (the bump is from one love handle to the other) not up front.

GloomyTubeNosedBat · 18/10/2010 13:28

I've had a M and an F, I carried the girl up really high and the boy was down really really low touching the chair almost.

DiscoDaisy · 18/10/2010 13:29

Was out front with all of mine and I have 3 DD and 2 DS.
Felt exactly the same with all of them as well.
