Can I Veet while pregnant?

Have tried googling but seems to be conflicting info? Really need to do something about my bikini line but shaving it's just horrid.. don't know how people cope with it - it itches like mad when it grows back!

No, I don't think so and I woulnd't risk TBh as the chemicals can get into your bloodstream. Have you thought about getting an Epilator? Painful but worth it!

Oh bum, I thought it would be fine and was planning on using Veet right at the end to avoid scaring midwives! (Currently scaring DH!)

Humph. There is no way I am waxing and I can't face shaving nicks/rash down there again so maybe my MWs will have to be brave...

What does everyone else do? Are you all brave and go for waxing?

The midwives won't give a jot if your bushy or bald, they have more important things to worry about. Like I said, if you want to be fuzz-free then try an Epilator, it is not wax, it is a bit painful but you can control how many hairs are pulled out and the results last for ages with no stubbly re-growth.

Well, I have been using depilatory creams like Veet throughout pregnancy. I would have to see some fairly convincing scientific evidence that the chemicals can really get into your bloodstream and cause problems. I really don't think it's a problem.

I have an epilator and there is categorically NO WAY I would use it while pregnant. In fact, that's a lie. I did it once in my last pregnancy and it was horrid. And I got a rash!

Totally up to you of course but do bear in mind that we are exposed to so many harmful chemicals both during pregnancy and at other times. A bit of veet isn't going to hurt.

I may look into the epilator, I would like to be broadly tidied.

Still, I'll shave my legs anyhow. In due course.

I thought you were more sensitive in pregnancy so epilator/waxing sounds horrendous! It's mainly because I want to go swimming.. I already couldn't give a rats about looking good for the birth (and i'm only 13+4) so leaving it really isn't an option!

I just got DH to use the sheep shearers his head shavers on me a few days before due date, just trimmed it back.

I don't think the midwives even notice.

My 18 year old sister however looked genuinly horrified!!

In labour I think the state of your ladygarden will be the LAST thing on your mind and if you have a CS the hossie will do it for you.

I have used veet in both my previous pregnancies and now in the third without any problems. I will continue to do so. Can't imagine anyting worse than the epilator at the moment!

but it's not for labour it's for swimming! I've still got another 6 months to before the labour bit and am hoping the swimming might be a way of getting in shape.. leaving it is definitely not an option!

The largest organ in your body (the skin) prevents chemicals put on the skin entering your body. Here's an experiment. Insert your arm into warm water. The chemical H20 does not get sucked into your bloodstream through the skin, leading to drowning does it?

No it's fine to use - the issue I think is that your skin may be sensitive to different things while you are pregnant so do a small patch test first.

As long as you can still reach I don't see a problem. I never had trouble shaving when I was pg and I got truly humungous.

I think if you thought about everything that might get into your bloodstream you may go mad!

Deodrant, body cream, cleaning products, nail varnish, hair dye - the list is endless.

Have heard some people on here say that they weren't going to use make up for 9 months

I have found my skin is super sensitive so am totally off waxing and never liked epilating anyway - I normally wax and had my eyebrows done at 5 months and it really hurt (v.unusual), then I had sore skin for days. Depiltory skin i coul dleave on for less time and had fewer problems.

But bizarrely I am finding that my hair is not really growing, I'm now 7.5 months and have only waxed my eyebrows that once, and only done my bikini line twice since finding I was pregnant but there is still hardly anything there. It's VERY weird, does anyone else have this?!

runningrach - no I have quite the opposite problem! Out of interest, do you know what you're having?

Runningrach - my hair also stopped growing in both pregnancies - very odd! I hardly had to shave legs/arms/bikini line but the hair on my head grew loads. The wonders of pregnancy!

With regards to OP, wouldn't worry about using veet when pg - as others have said, there are loads and loads of chemicals that we come into contact with daily that we can't avoid and you can't wrap yourself up in cotton wool for 9 months.

I was very much less hairy when pg with my girl, and pretty much a werewolf when carrying my boy. Go figure!

Midwives suggested using veet before my last 3 cs's & I'll be using it again this time - I'm sure they wouldn't suggest it if it was dangerous in any way at all!
