Hi ladies,

thought you might be interested in the documentary Cherry Has A Baby which starts tonight on BBC3.

I think it is the first in a 3-part series.

9pm on BBC3.

Pip

PS. Nope, I don't work for the BBC! Just a pregnant mumsnetter who is interested in watching the show.

Thank you. I may watch that if I'm still awake and that hour!

reallywoundup · 13/09/2010 19:09

i've already put it on the sky planner, i'm going to take a cuppa and a tub of ice cream and watch it in bed Grin!

PinkElephant73 · 13/09/2010 19:13

The title has given away the ending - so I won;t be watching Grin

podmumlet · 13/09/2010 19:15

Thanks for the reminder Pip - I had made a mental note to watch it, but pregnancy brain misfiled the note.

Will definitely be watching... Thanks again!

PipPipPip · 13/09/2010 22:46

Great documentary! I cried a lot. I was just boggled by so many of the women - the pregnant girl who said her Grandma gives her £20 a month towards the baby. Wow. Makes my money worries pale in comparison!

Also amazed by the business woman's plans to return to work two days later.

And the home birth...!

What did you think?

SilveryMoon · 13/09/2010 22:48

I watched. Thoughtg it was a great program.
Amazing at some of the dillusions though!
Can't believe the business woman was bacck in the office within a week!

mum2oneloudbaby · 14/09/2010 07:00

Really enjoyed it although I missed the first 20 mins due to my own little darling Grin

I thought the home birth was awesome and although I would never consider a home birth (I'm too much of a panicker) it was a great thing to see such a normal, calm, relaxed birth.

As for the business woman - putting aside the physical aspects of it if you have a husband who wants to be at home full-time at first and then full time nanny the logistics of going back to work are surely much easier than without all the support.

The bits that made me really Hmm were those that said I won't change my lifestyle I will continue to do as I do and the baby will have to fit in. I would love to meet someone who has actually managed this. Another thought that comes into my head at this is that if you are so happy with your life as is why bring a baby into it?

Oh and the cs really weirded me out to watch and the only reason I can think of why this would be is because I am currently having to consider that this may be the way forward for me which I can't quite get my head round.

DancingCat · 14/09/2010 07:21

I watched too - thought it was great, especially the home birth - wow, how calm and peaceful! Perhaps good editing? Wish I could do it that way :)

The older mum who developed notches on her placenta upset me as that's one of my concerns - partly because I'm also an older mum but also because of my clotting condition. But little Andrew was ok in the end, though 11 weeks in hospital must have been desperately hard for the parents.

I thought the cs was very reassuring.

Wasn't sure whether I should watch it - but so glad I did :)

mum2oneloudbaby · 14/09/2010 07:37

oh yes dancingcat it was fantastic to see little Andrew at home in his own cot after such a traumatic start. I really felt for them I think I would just crumble into little pieces.

LeviStubbsTears · 14/09/2010 08:14

I really enjoyed it, though thought the categories, and the way all the examples were whipped through so rapidly, made it (inevitably) slightly simplistic. But couldn't fail to be moved. That homebirth - how did she do it?? I wondered too about the editing, DancingCat - she was moaning a bit more when the presenter first opened the door (though still sounded fine). Wish I was brave enough to have one myself. The downside for me was that I now feel rather old (38, 21 wks preg), unfit and large after those lithe toned young bodies (and the 35 yr old looked bloody great too)... Oh well, that's tv for you I guess. Much bigger issues than vanity, as the older women in particular showed.

PipPipPip · 14/09/2010 10:29

LeviStubbs yes, I was going to suggest that an older friend of mine watch it but I realised that it wouldn't necessarily be uplifting viewing if you're older and trying to conceive.

Oh yes, the categories were just a bit of fluff.

Hey, even at 28 I feel unfit and large after watching those lithe toned bodies! :)

I thought the business woman's husband was adorable.

Yes, I had IVF but it worked first time (all being, well, touching wood like crazy that I get to Jan...) so I feel massively lucky and really felt for the woman finally preg with twins - did they say what happened to her at the end? I couldn't remember them mentioning her - really hope it was all ok. I guess she must have given consent to be featured, either way, so hopefully it was.

AbiAbi · 14/09/2010 11:35

Levi - they said she was currently at 28weeks and everything was going fine Smile

YummyMummy1208 · 14/09/2010 11:49

Im so glad i noticed the programme at ten to 9 last night when flicking through one last time before resorting to bed (34 weeks pregnant and very tired! Grin)

Although i had my first at 21 and now will have my second at 24 i found it quite strange how she seemed to think she was so young to have her first at 28. Confused and how she was going to miss out on things, surely by 28 you have done lots of those things you wanted to do - i.e. girly holidays, lots of drunken nights out with hangovers the next day, all of those things you can do easily before children come along. yet she seemed to have such a hard time adjusting to having a baby at her age when with all todays knowledge it seems it becomes increasingly harder to conceive after 30 for a women which is only 2 years away for her.

I just love watching anything pregnancy related though so it entertained me for the night anyhow! And that 15 year old seemed so mature for her age bless her, i know people can easily call her all sorts of things for getting pregnant so young but it only does take one time and not many young ones these days actually get to 16 without having lost their virginity so it doesnt really mean she's a 'slag' or any other names her peers will probably call her. She's bloody brave to have decided to keep the baby and actually say that it wasnt the baby's fault so why should she kill it. in a way her mum should be proud she has such a mature, grown up daughter.

kittycatcat · 14/09/2010 13:22

I missed the beginning too. Thought it was v good. The home birth in the pool was amazing wasnt it. Said to DH should i be watching this!! I couldnt watch the CS either. Ah bless little Andrew. Poor Cherry. 22 hours then a CS anyway. EEE!

bundlebelly · 14/09/2010 15:24

Good programme really enjoyed it. I like Cherry, she was really genuine. Is it really a three parter? How can it be now that the babies are here!

MisterW · 14/09/2010 15:36

The second part of about her getting married. I'm not sure what the third part is... the divorce?

LeviStubbsTears · 14/09/2010 17:14

Thanks, Abi re. the update on the twins woman - good news!

AbiAbi · 14/09/2010 18:14

No worries Smile

I've just shown my husband the c-section scenes, as I've never had one or seen one, can't believe how calm it all seemed!

Really good programme, thumbs up from me.

lainey1981 · 14/09/2010 18:34

I missed it but have just checked tv guide and it seems is repeated tonight @ 8pm so will be checking it out (with me being 28 and pregnant with my first too!)

FrameyMcFrame · 14/09/2010 18:41

Oh this sounds good, but I don't undersyand this talk of lithe toned bodies and giving birth?
Surely everyone looks like a flubbery whale whilst giving birth no?

pinkgirlythoughts · 14/09/2010 18:41

ooh which channel? BBC3 still?

islandbaby · 14/09/2010 23:04

Was the programme a one off, or a series? I'm not in the UK at the moment so I can't watch it even on iplayer, but I'll try to get someone to record it if there are more.

YummyMummy1208 I am 30 and this is my first pregnancy, but I definitely feel like I'm still too young. Most of my close friends that are my age don't have kids yet, and say that they aren't ready to slow down on their careers, give up their nights out and generally put on hold the plans they have with their partners for holidays together etc..

Even though I have been lucky enough to travel a lot, live and work in several different countries and enjoyed my fair share of hedonism, knowing that all that has to stop for quite some time is quite scary!

My pregnancy was unplanned, but I'm really excited about being a mum.
