...Or is it just me??!

You see I only have to look at a bit of precipitation and my hair goes all 'poodlesqe'!!

Its not that I'm vain, I can quite happily go anywhere without any make-up on and stuff and don't plan to take make-up to hospital - but I need my straighteners?!!! Is this really stupid?

Cheers,

I even bought gas ones in case you couldn't plug stuff in & I'm very unvain.

bigchris · 08/09/2010 18:56

I'm not sure they'll be anywhere to plug it in?
But seriously you won't have the energy to straighten your hair

radioblahblah · 08/09/2010 18:59

aw bless.

is this your 1st then?

ruddynorah · 08/09/2010 19:03

just tie it back.

Chelle1986 · 08/09/2010 19:05

Oooh Jbck - gas ones!!

Yes it is my first radioblahblah, so not sure whether or not there will be anywhere to plug them in - hence the question really, to see if anyone else has.

Trust me bigchris - I will find the energy! I have VERY low self confidence and if people keep pointing cameras and stuff at me I am highly likely to freak out unless my fringe is straight! I don't care about the rest of my hair or a scrap of make-up, but I do not want to look back on the first pics of me and my baby and think 'yuck'. I want them to be happy memories - not ones I have to hide because I think I look awful.....

loving your optimism
doubt you'll care.... or are you expecting the paparazzi... Grin

Chelle1986 · 08/09/2010 19:06

It will be tied back - just fringe am bothered about to be honest - I suppose I could use a hand dryer in the toilet if all else fails.... Grin

No - and tbh I'd be surprised if a)there was anywhere to plug them in, and b)if you'd be allowed. I work in the NHS, and all electrical items have to go through PAT (that's portable appliance testing, not the receptionist at the front desk!)

Echo the others - seriously, you will not care what your fringe is doing Grin

Chelle1986 · 08/09/2010 19:12

Gas ones it is then! Or that hand dryer....

I'm booked in for a c - section and even though I wont be moving around much at first I have made sure that my make up is packed, i usually straighten my hair but not sure if I will have the energy to do so in the hospital after the op - still made sure I have packed my hair gel though so I can have tidy curly hair!! ... I want to look half decent on my baby's first photos after all, even if I will be feeling rubbish! Go for it, pack the straighteners!! ... just check that you can plug them in!

maxpower · 08/09/2010 19:29

no - mainly because I knew in advance they won't let you plug any of your own stuff in (including hairdryers) so there was no point.

withorwithoutyou · 08/09/2010 19:29

Lola - I couldn't lift my arms that far up for any length of time the few days after my c-s to be able to straighten my hair. Good luck to you though if you can do it.

withorwithoutyou · 08/09/2010 19:31

Re: plugging in though, DH brought a fan along as DD2 was born during the heatwave at end of June and no-one told me off for using it.

I was in a private room though

PavlovtheCat · 08/09/2010 19:34

you are having a baby, not doing a photo shoot! by the time you are in full blown labour, with people poking you in your nether regions you won't give a toss about your hair being frizzy.

I certainly did not feel rubbish immediately after both children were born, I felt elated, and tired.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/09/2010 19:34
Grin

I would print this thread off and look at it when your baby is 2-3 weeks old. I promise you that you'll have a chuckle!

Seriously you will not care, partly because you won't want to put your baby down long enough to sort out your hair and do your make up!

FloraFinching · 08/09/2010 19:35

I don't do straightners, but I am expecting DC2, and the first thing going into the hospital bag is my make-up bag. I will not have my photo taken without mascara on. Get some gas ones, go forth and straighten.

PavlovtheCat · 08/09/2010 19:38

flora it takes 2 seconds to put on mascara, a bit longer to do hair.

Although even that is a bit daft. The best photos I have seen of parents and babies are the most natural ones. The best one of us when DD was born is out on display. It is the first few minutes of DD being born, taken by a friend, the room was quite warm and DH was sweating a bit, he was absolutely blown away by the baby he was holding with me, he was about to cry, I looked completely blissed out, slightly glistening skin, hair a mess, and the photo is one of pure love and amazement, would not have been the same if I had asked for a pause to redo my make-up/hair! (luckily I had my roots done already and eyebrows plucked!)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/09/2010 19:39

Flora - go and get your eyelashes tinted, job done.

nymphadora · 08/09/2010 19:41

My hospital has hairstraighteners on maternity. They pointed them out on the tour Hmm

zabwino · 08/09/2010 19:41

I straighten my hair pretty much every day, but in my experience you really really won't be bothered while in hospital. Ditto make up. Ditto wearing clothes other than pjamas or tracksuit bottoms!
Don't bother packing them, and pack extra disposable knickers and maternity pads instead ;-)

sarahscot · 08/09/2010 19:41

Chelle, when I had my first baby I took my straighteners to hospital. I just sneakily plugged them in while the curtain was closed!
To the people laughing and saying you won't care about your hair, you clearly don't have mad wierd hair like some of us. I ALWAYS care if my hair is straightened, wouldn;t go out without it done - don't need salon standard in hospital, but surely everyone has some sort of level of acceptable appearance?
Chelle, take your straighteners, if you've thought of it already, you clearly care enough that you still will regardless of having just given birth or not.

Booboobedoo · 08/09/2010 19:42

Chelle - take whatever you think you'll need to feel good about yourself.

You may care or you may not, but it's entirely up to you obviously!

When are you due?

Owlingate · 08/09/2010 19:43

I did with both births and managed to plug them in both times. Anyone who scoffs has no idea what its like to set the hair of satan free. Actually I did care; it makes me feel better to feel like I look nice and I don't give a shite if that makes me shallow.

FloraFinching · 08/09/2010 19:44

...but then there's the pasty skin, PCOS beard to be plucked, hair to be tamed....

I did not look full of love and amazement when DD1 was born. I looked knackered, sweat sodden, pain ridden and panicked.

You are all clearly more well-balanced than me Grin.
