...Or is it just me??!

You see I only have to look at a bit of precipitation and my hair goes all 'poodlesqe'!!

Its not that I'm vain, I can quite happily go anywhere without any make-up on and stuff and don't plan to take make-up to hospital - but I need my straighteners?!!! Is this really stupid?

Cheers,

yes. and there were plug sockets behind the bed.

i had an horrific crash c section, was in fecking agony afterwards but i made dh help me get washed/put on make up/do my hair because 1. lots of people were ocming to see me and 2. lots of people took photos.

i did care and i still care. i've looked after dd mostly aloine for the last 10 months and i've never not done makeup/hair. even if i dont go out.

fwiw im pretty confident. i just like things how i like them.

Hermya321 · 08/09/2010 19:48

Chelle Pack them, if you don't use them you don't use them. At least you'll feel better that you'll have them with you before hand. Don't feel bad about thinking about them. I've been out and bought 'easy' make up to take in with me so I can at least have the option of putting some concealer and mascara on.

hmmSleep · 08/09/2010 19:51

I didn't care with my first, or my second, I'm currently 33 weeks with number 3, and looking back on photos have realised I do care! I'm not taking my ghds, but am packing my concealer and blusher, and have bought myself a lovely post birth nighty Grin.

I plugged in a laptop to watch dvds when I was in hospital.

nunnie · 08/09/2010 19:54

I didn't with my first, and definatly could have done with them, I have stupidly thick hair, but I just asked people to not take photos of me. It used to take me an hour to straighten my hair, so I did decide I might not get a full hour to do it in, so decided not to take them.

This time round I have chopped it all off and gone for the quick and easy look, wash, so short it dries in seconds.

xkatyx · 08/09/2010 19:54

Im on pregnancy no 3, with my 1st and 2nd i brought make up and hair straighners in.

I used them made me feel alot more human after i had a shower just to slap some foundation on cover the bags and i had a plug right next to my bed, so the next day i just ran them through.

nunnie · 08/09/2010 19:57

I am not saying you shouldn't take them, or you should chop all your locks off, that was just my choice.

Portofino · 08/09/2010 20:01

Make up and hair straighteners! My lord, in first photos after dd was born I looked like something out of Thriller! I cared not one jot! I was happy with a shower!

Trubert · 08/09/2010 20:06

You lot have higher standards post-partum than I do for an evening out :)

undercovamutha · 08/09/2010 20:10

Grin Trubert - PMSL!

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 20:15

I didn't (I don't use straightners) but I did take my make up and I used it. I will this time too! In the first pic of me and DD I look like I have died!

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 20:16

Meant to say that at that point I didn't have make up on but I wished that I had!

Raejj · 08/09/2010 20:22

Ah bless :) I'm not sure ieven remembered to brush my hair after my dc was born never mind straighten:)

PussinJimmyChoos · 08/09/2010 20:32

I had a c section at 11pm at night. At 7am next morning I had a shower (was aided in and that's it!), I managed to wash my hair, tie it back and put a little eye liner and mascara on...and I still looked shit in the photos as was retaining water as if was Olympic sport Grin

Moral of the story: Don't bother

nymphadora · 08/09/2010 20:37

I'm with trubert! Lucky if I brush my hair 9 years onBlush

withorwithoutyou · 08/09/2010 20:57

I'm gobsmacked at all the women who were actually in the photos with their newborn in hospital.

No one wanted to take a picture of me, just the baby Grin

Giddyup · 08/09/2010 21:08

Yep I will be if I have a hospital birth, just for my fringe too! Will also be taking my make up; it takes all of 5 mins to put on and I look much less terrifying with it in place.

I was in hospital for 4 days after I had DS as I lost a lorra lorra blood,I am so not vain but every morning I had a lovely shower, got dressed, brushed my hair and stuck some make up on. It made me feel so much better.

PinkElephant73 · 08/09/2010 22:31

Another good reason for an HB if you ask me - you can have your full kit of beauty tools to hand!

Not that I will be bothering with straighteners or makeup. I will just get DH to Photoshop the pix afterwards!!

Meglet · 08/09/2010 22:34

This is why having no visitors is a good idea.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 08/09/2010 23:15

Thanks all Smile

Am only 14 weeks and have no idea why I even read this thread (it's a long way off and I have v v straight hair) but it has cheered me up no end after a stressful day. Good luck to you all whether you straighten, brush, make up or anything else!!!

Whatever your hair type make sure you brush it out after the birth. I plaited mine for dd1. After 14 hours of induction and labour and stitches it was in a right mess and I didn't brush it outbecause i was tired, slept on it (for about 30 minutes ha ha) and then had a dreadful time getting it deknotted. I should have been brushing it out before they'd finished the stitches.....

kelly2525 · 09/09/2010 00:13

Im a vain first timer too, my make up and straighteners will also be in the bag, i have long thick hair that needs done everyday, i also plan on getting my eyelashes tinted a few days before my little man is due (18 weeks to go). People started taking the piss as soon as i told then i was pregnant, oooh just imgaine kelly straightening her hair and doing her make up in the early stages, damn right i will be! Nails will also be infilled a few days before, and all of this isnt cos im think im a stunna, far from it, i need all that to look half decent, i know the make up will be sweated off, and i know the hair will go into panic mode at the first hint of said sweat, and i will look crap and wont care while im pushing him out, but i will care afterwards.

gingerkirsty · 09/09/2010 00:22

Ha ha ha ha I planned a home birth, ended up after about 45 hours of labour transferring into hospital, and the midwives were astounded that I straightened my fringe before leaving the house!

When I finally managed a shower when Dd was a day or two old, I had to plug my hairdryer and straighteners in in the family waiting room and use a tiny mirror to get my hair looking halfway normal!

Next time, I am NOT going to have a blunt fringe cut in whilst I am pregnant. Low maintenance hair is a must for childbirth! I cannot believe that I DID MY HAIR after a 50 hour labour, 2 failed spinal blocks, epidural, forceps delivery and major blood loss!

And I thought I wasn't a vain person Wink
