Where is the best place to buy good quality but inexpensive maternity clothes? Been looking in the sales and have bought a few things but am going to be at my biggest over Nov and Dec so I need some nice winter clothes and need a nice comfy pair of jeans. Where would you ladies suggest?

I would suggest ebay Grin
I have bought loads of nice stuff there.
Also LaRedoute have done nice stuff in the past, they are pretty cheap and worth a look, but I do not kn ow about recently as only just pg and not looked yet. Used to be nice though!

MissCKitty · 24/08/2010 18:39

Thanks will have a nosey at LaRedoute x

Peacocks and Asda do some good basics - long & short sleeve cotton t's that wash up well and are cut quite nice. H&M also but I found the bigger store (London) to be best, otherwise it's keeping your eye on the stock & keep checking back!

MrsJamin · 24/08/2010 18:51

New Look is v good, nicer than H&M but similar price, got most of my stuff from there.

mumnerves · 24/08/2010 19:28

Do you have a next clearance store near you? Worth a look as I got a great pair of jeans for only £4! :)

Giddyup · 24/08/2010 20:52

Ive found my new look stuff to be best for price and value.... middle of the road for price, but nice stuff... their jeans looked foul on me though!

Bonners · 24/08/2010 20:57

Check out any NCT nearly new sales as well. they've always got a maternity rack. In edinburgh we have a consignment store for baby and maternity stuff which I bought most of mine at. Maybe there is something like that in your area? I got a few things in a Gap sale and the rest of any new stuff from New Look 'cause it's super cheap. I couldn't be bothered spending money on clothes I'd only be wearing for 4 months and would look like a turnip in anyway so didn't get much new stuff.
I've got 3 weeks to go now and am heartily sick of all my clothes but won't crack and buy any more. Bring on baby so I can go back to my old clothes!!!

mummyturtle · 28/08/2010 22:49

Next to a good selection of maternity clothes that arent too expensive, got all mine from there!

MrsBadger · 28/08/2010 22:53

give up now on the jeans front though, they ar eall crap

if you have a Next clearance shop near you they often have good stuff v cheap

ReshapeWhileDamp · 28/08/2010 23:30

Ebay is fab! Smile I just got a Seraphine denim skirt there that fits now and will fit after the birth, and I love it. Twas about £3 plus postage. I got loads of maternity stuff there last time.

Just don't set your heart on a 'bargain' Isabella Oliver wrap top on Ebay. They're all going for over £35 recently and I can't justify that for one top. Sad

H&M maternity are a bit patchy but often come up with the goods and are cheap.

Agree re. jeans. Under-bump need a belt which is very uncomfortable (I use a horrible elastic 'snake belt' for added give and it still digs in). And then they fall down anyway. Over-bump just fall down!

I get huge, if DS was anything to go by, and for the last two months of my pregnancy was in a long needlecord pinafore dress over a t-shirt. It was last trendy in about 1992 (which, funnily enough, was when I bought the dress!) with DMs. Grin Sadly, I also had swollen feet and couldn't manage the DMs, so had to wear horrible synthetic cheap Ugg-alikes. Really, really hoping that doesn't happen again.

Oscalito · 29/08/2010 08:58

Mama and Papa (usually too expensive) has a sale on this weekend. 30% of all maternity clothes, which makes them sort of reasonable (jeans about 28 quid). I got under the bump ones and they are OK.

FloraFinching · 29/08/2010 09:03

Lots of non-maternity stuff will fit as well if you go up a size or two. I've just bought a couple of empire line dresses in Primark, to wear with leggings and boots. None are maternity, but all are fine and very comfy. Roll-top yoga pants are also good for wearing with dresses/tunics - M&S and White Co do them.

FloraFinching · 29/08/2010 09:04

and re jeans.
Yes they are all crap. Having said that I have found under the bump jeans held up by a bump band to be the best solution.

Octaviapink · 29/08/2010 09:37

EBay! Isabella oliver stuff is brilliant and much better value on ebay than new from the shop. Beware of the 'wrap' tops though - they look fantastic on the models but do NOT work with maternity bras - you need a plunge underwired bra otherwise the bra shows.

Bumperlicious · 29/08/2010 10:04

Just bought some reasonable jeans from Peacocks. They are over the bump, but at 36 weeks everything under the bump just hurts. They were £18.

Ebay also good.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 29/08/2010 10:13

Ebay, Next, H&M (although they come up small). Mamas and Papas have good sales and you could maybe look for one of their outlet stores.

All jeans are rubbish pretty much. I have an over-bump pair from Mothercare which are just about serviceable.

claricestar · 29/08/2010 10:20

I got 2 pairs of red herring maternity jeans in Debenhams sale for £8 each so worth looking in Debenhams when there's a sale. Towards end lived in cheap leggings and dresses as all my tops, even maternity ones were too short over my huge bump

MarineIguana · 29/08/2010 10:20

Next for jeans, and H&M for tops. I have some H&M long maternity vests and tops that I bought for my first pg 6 years ago and still wear (they are stretchy not shaped, so also good when not pg) and they are still good as new.

Also check out your existing clothes - I had a huge bump but had some white stuff tunic tops and jack wills long rib tops (expensive but not so bad in the sale) that made great maternity wear right up to the birth. Wrap cardigans, long stretchy jumper dresses etc. you might find work well.

podmumlet · 29/08/2010 12:31

Another vote here for Next jeans...

Haven't been too impressed with H&M though... Both the lovely cotton stretchy tops I bought have unravelled in no time (and its not that I am washing or wearing them any differently to my other clothes......)

Catspersonalbanker · 29/08/2010 18:47

There is a sale on in New Look at the mo.
Short sleved pink t shirt with square neck £3 and purple jumper dress £7 from £22.

They also have lots of maternity jeans on the sale rail too.

saoirse86 · 29/08/2010 19:01

I've had maternity clothes from Red Herring Maternity at Debenhams, H&M, mamas and papas, mothercare, pumpkin patch and topshop. To be honest, the vast majority of stuff I've bought in the sales so keep your eye out for sales near you. I really like topshop's stuff and would never pay their usual prices. But I've also bought quite a lot of clothes just in bigger sizes, like empire line or wrap dresses and tops. Monsoon sales are good for that sort of thing and dresses are so much more comfy than ill-fitting trousers.
One thing I would say is if you're buying jeans, try not to buy any with a button at the top of the fly as it'll dig in when your bump's bigger and you might have to stop wearing them or buy new ones.

whammie76 · 29/08/2010 19:10

I bought a couple of maternity tops from Next, which will definately do me after pregnancy as they have a tie waist. I got a pair of mamas & papas jeans less than 1/2 price from very and they are so comfy, they've got adjustable waist too so will do afterwards aswell. Did buy a pair of 3/4 length maternity jeans for £15, but I've hardly worn them due to my ankles being swollen - they didn't look verty flattering - but again will beable to wear them after pregnancy.

Ebay is great for maternity buys, I bought a pair of bnwt black work trousers for £4 that were H&M, they done me through my 1st pregnancy and now this one.

pantaloons · 29/08/2010 19:14

Matalan have started doing maternity stuff, but since I had my youngest, so I don't know what it's like.

harahana · 29/08/2010 19:27

One tip I've come up with for keeping under bump maternity jeans up - braces! Go to any gentlemens' outfitters and you should be able to find some clip on braces. Was sick to death of elasticated my jeans falling down but now they stay up fine and are really comfy. I tend to wear the braces under my top layer so nobody knows I'm wearing them, but I guess you could always make a feature of them (maybe to go with those DMs...)

MissCKitty · 29/08/2010 19:34

Thanx for your suggestions ladies. Tried a pair of under the bump jeans from New Look and am not sure about them, they look a bit odd. Have put in a couple of bids for some bits on ebay. And there's an NCT sale near me in october so I'll def go and have a nosey at that x
