Hello. Mumsnetters have been so fantastic coming up with lists and lists of names for us to ponder.

We've narrowed down our fave boys and girls names although we're pretty certain we'll be having another girl. This is our last baby and we're beside ourselves when it comes to choosing the name/s, this time round it feels like such a huge responsibility!

G- Noemi or Matilda
B- Arthur or Felix

What do you think will he/she has 13 others in their class with the same name?

Love Arthur and Matilda.

KateF · 29/08/2005 08:01

Lovely names libbyss. We know one of each except Noemi (do know a Naomi though). I was dead keen on Matilda/Tilly for one of mine but dh wouldn't cooperate! I also wanted slightly out of the ordinary but not weird names so I have an Isabella, a Susannah and a Philippa but they all get shortened!

libbyss · 29/08/2005 08:26

Noemi is pronounced (no emmee) although hubby likes it pronounced No Emm

Don't really want a riduculously rare name. I like slightly older fashioned names.

Thanks for all the responses
Aero - We both feel really daft this time round choosing names as our prev experience has been much more different to this. We're used to picking out a name in an hour flat! Last baby so feel we really have to get it right

Tallulah -Thanks for the chart, very interesting

Hunkermunker - the spelling part, that's quite a good point actually as all our children are constantly having to correct/re spell their names, I suppose you can't go wrong with Matilda or Arthur can you?

Kate - Love your kids' names. Really loved Susannah but hubby said no (Boo!)

I love the name Matilda and know families who have shortened it to Tilda (quite cool) and also Mattie, which sounds cute. I like Felix, and Arthur is ok. I think Noemi would be a hard one for people to spell / pronounce correctly. From experience, having a quite ordinary name which teachers regularly pronounced wrong, this is really really irritating!

MrsBubsDeVere · 29/08/2005 10:18

I like Matilda and Felix and there aren't any children with any of those names in either dd1's school or dd2's nursery.

From your choices, my fave of them are Matilda and Arthur.

Enid · 30/08/2005 09:58

noemi is too odd

why not just naomi which I like and is more unusual than tilly?

prefer Felix to Arthur

sweetkitty · 30/08/2005 10:02

I really like Matilda shortened to Tilly and Arthur.

DP and I have been debating names all yesterday we are sorted on a boys but are completely stumped for a girls.

I like Caitlin and Amelia

He likes Sara and Megan (I hate Sara btw)

Windermere · 30/08/2005 10:05

Love Matilda and think Arthur is cute. Like Felix but to me it will always be a name for a cat.

Love Tilda by the way

Carla · 30/08/2005 10:08

Naomi and Felix.

Carla · 30/08/2005 10:09

Or Arthur. Or George. Even David. Can you tell I've not had a boy?

Carla · 30/08/2005 10:11

Sorry, but I've just got to poke this one in. If I'd have had a boy, he'd have been called Fergus.

Carla · 30/08/2005 10:13

Or Christy, for a boy.

bubbles2904 · 30/08/2005 10:13

hi. don't mean to sound rude but i really hope you have a girl. both the names are lovely although personally i prefer noemi. i like names to be different but not weird. no offence to anyone with felix's out there but this name reminds me of my nans cat. i think that you are put off by a name because you know of someone you dislike. anyway, have fun choosing your babys name, and don't be swayed by others.

zippitippitoes · 30/08/2005 10:14

I've always spelt Mathilda with an h, so not totally straightforward on the spelling front

Ilike the name Naomi which is dds middle name now she's older she wishes it was her first name and it's quite unusual still without being strange. some people aren't sure how to say it though!!

expatinscotland · 30/08/2005 10:40

I had a lovely cat called Felix. Aw, he was such a SWEET kitty.

compo · 30/08/2005 10:41

I like Tilly and Tilda but hate Mattie (sorry to all the Mattie's out there, just think it's a boy's name a la Matthew)

libbyss · 30/08/2005 16:44

There are 2 boys called Felix at my son's school and one Arthur. We don't know any Noemis or Matildas. We're veering towards Art or Matilda/Tilly.

Of course it does depend on where you live, My friend who is also expecting, lives in London and you can't move for Lolas, Scarlettes(sp?) Ambers, Hugos and Alfies and I thought they were all quite unusual.

God I really hope my husband doesn't change his mind again.

libyss if it's easy-to-spell you're after you can't go wrong with Arthur, you never have to spell it out as everyone's grandpa is called it!
Noemi might be more of a problem.

dropinthe · 30/08/2005 17:38

Felix is a cat in an advert-I don't like it!

PeachyClair · 30/08/2005 18:16

Matilda / Tillie is great, Arthur / Artie also V V nice (though when next to Felix made me think cats- OK on it's own tho!), not so keen on the others.
