Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Good idea on the ear plugs Fennel will put them in the bag when I get home.
I have 2 nighties (button up at front)and will put in a nursing bra when I buy one. I'm waiting for bravissimo to start stocking a seamless anita bra in mid March.
We actually have a seperate food bag packed which will contain drinks, muesli bars etc that is going to go with dh.

bluecow · 08/03/2004 19:27

I took my make up in with me last time - can't be seen without my face! I also took a crop top sports bra thing - in the end that's all I was wearing when I gave birth. Yes, also took lots of cereal bars though luckily I managed to grab some tea and toast in the early hours after ds was born. This time I am taking loads of sleep and body suits because I didn't take enough last time - wasn't prepared for the projectile weeing of newborn boys!

Dot - so glad you've moved and hope you're managing to sort the house out.

I went shopping this afternoon and walked so slow I was almost going backwards!

dolbear · 08/03/2004 21:31

hello everyone , am also on a laptop from home , have four more days at work , has been harder than I thought as I was made redundant in oct and have been working as a temp since ! I will join the " fed up " club , FED UP with feeling frightened , tired achy , putting up with stupid " who ate all the pies jokes " gentle comments from dh on the lack of sex over the last few months , rrrraaaaahhhh , and I have another 5 weeks ! baby feeles like its head is boucing off my bladder and its bum is coming out of my tum , is right way up or upside down depending

udar · 09/03/2004 09:41

We only live about 7mins walk from the hospital so anything I don't have enough of dh will just have to go home and collect, I've been trying to train to pack light so hopefully will be able to keep that up for a while.

The other thing I'm going to have to do is think of a new nickname as I can't be called 'bump' after the baby is born.

Metrobaby · 09/03/2004 12:31

The only thing I need to buy for my hospital bag is nappies and cotton wool really. But I still need to pack everything else. I'll definately be taking some snacks for DH and myself as I remember last time straight after giving birth I was suddenly ravenous.

Is anyone starting to get a bit nervous now ?? I've noticed that there are quite a few 'graduates' now from the March thread which means us lot here are not too far away - and I for one am scared stiff !

udar · 09/03/2004 14:23

I am and I'm not all at the same time. Excited and nervous as well. I think I'm more worried about the lack of sleep afterwards as dh and I both need a decent amount of sleep.
I'm trying to keep reassuring myself that I will have the birth I want and millions of people do it everyday and if I'm scared it will supress my oxytoxin which is one of the hormones that brings on labour. I just don't want to be late as that could mean a bigger baby...that is the bit I'm worried about - size.

Fennel · 09/03/2004 16:10

Metrobaby - yes I am scared but there is not a "scared of third labour" thread so I am trying to get a grip on myself.

or do you mean nervous of having a new baby?

baby has definitely gone head down now so my home birth plan is still going ahead. it feels a long way off still to april though.

dolbear · 09/03/2004 18:37

scared ? I am terrified , I just want it over now , I am a v positive , go get 'em person and I am not used to being frightened , but everytime i try to ' talk myself round ' i am able to be positive for about an hour , in fact the only real comfort and back bone I have , is from u guys ! which makes me feel sad for my dh who is trying so hard to be there for me

hewlettsdaughter · 09/03/2004 20:17

Feeling scared here too - of childbirth and of how life is going to change (ds is 4 and a half and so it's a while since I looked after a baby, and had to cope with the lack of sleep etc). Still, I've done it once, and those of you who find it hard at first - it does get better!

Fennel · 10/03/2004 08:36

Dolbear, I love your comments on the Pregnant and Angry thread about people saying 5 weeks is "not long to go". would like to punch those people too. especially as the "5 weeks" could be 7 weeks still. The days are beginning to drag for me too, now even going for a little walk feels like too much discomfort.

I really hate all the many people who say to me "hasn't your pregnancy gone quickly?" No, actually it's been a very long 8 months so far.

I am finding myself smiling stupidly at newborns I meet in the street though, they look so cute.

dot1 · 10/03/2004 11:36

HELP..... The thing I've dreaded most has happened - I've got a pile...! Just the one, but it's horrid - I've been feeling sore for a few days but couldn't bear to 'investigate' - but took the plunge today and there it is - have sent dp out to get some cream, and am seeing midwife on Friday, but I'm really worried that if I've got one now, I'm going to get 100's when I'm actually pushing baby out...

Can't believe all the horrible pregnancy symptoms I've managed to accumulate - also now completely fed up and just WANT IT OUT... No more contractions though, so it's 2 weeks and 6 days for me (if it goes a day over I'm going to jump out of the window...).

Anyone else got piles - I feel like a leper...

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 10/03/2004 12:33

Piles - yes

And generally they do get worse after all the pushing.

But mine cleared up after a couple of months or so post partum.

I've had the piles this time around for a few weeks now. I don't find mine particularly painful - just itchy sometimes (and unsightly), how about you?

dot1 · 10/03/2004 12:45

Oh HMC you've made me feel much better..! No, it doesn't hurt - but itches like hell, especially at night. I just feel like such a pregnancy failure - have been thinking maybe I've got piles 'cos I was overweight in the first place?? Weird feeling - like my insides are all coming out... Glad to hear they go away eventually...

MrsDoolittle · 10/03/2004 13:10

Hi, I have just left work. I fell like as prisoner in my own body as I am too ungainly to do anything. I have just over 3 weeks to go and developed SPD!!! Now that's nasty

handlemecarefully · 10/03/2004 13:58

Sympathies on the SPD MrsDoolittle!

No nothing to do with being overweight Dot - and not your fault. Just a pregnancy side effect that some people get and others don't - no rhyme or reason re who is affected.

MrsDoolittle · 10/03/2004 14:01

Anyone else got elephantitis? I hit 36 weeks and overnight my ankles disappeared!!!

Metrobaby · 10/03/2004 14:08

I'm worried about lots of things - both the labour and having a newborn again. I hate the pain - and despite what people have said about forgetting I do remember the last labour and how horrific it was. Also worrying that everything with the baby will be OK - whether it will be an easy one or not, how dd will cope with the change etc. I am also not looking forward to the visit from my in laws as they will stay over and I always find it stressful at the best of times. This time however, I have told DH in no uncertain terms that there are to be absoloutely no vistors until at least 2 weeks after the birth. Pretty standard worries I guess

Fennel · 10/03/2004 14:12

Sympathies on all the piles, elephantisis and SPD. it all sounds horrible. I am lucky I only have general ungainliness and a bit of backache.

dd1 has made some novel amendments to my birth plan. Her suggestion is I cycle to a stable to give birth with her on the back of the bike, she assists in the birth (she's nearly 4), we have a birthday party for the baby in the stable and then I cycle the 3 of us home. It sounds quite jolly, I wish it was that simple.

MrsDoolittle · 10/03/2004 14:15

Well this is my first and thoughts of labour are beginning to dominate my life. Just over three weeks(and the rest) to go and scared is not the word!!!

Fennel · 10/03/2004 14:16

Metrobaby I have banned my parents from visiting for the month before and after the baby is due. I feel mean as they live 200 miles away so can't pop in easily, and they are coming near us next week anyway but I won't let them stay. But the thought of having my dad around if I happened to go into labour is totally unbearable to me! He would sit and give anecdotes about some trivial health issue while expecting cups of tea.

Wish I had the sort of parents who would be some use eg looking after dds while I'm pregnant.

handlemecarefully · 10/03/2004 14:44

Fennel

I love dd1's suggestions for your birth plan!

udar · 10/03/2004 15:36

Just got back from having some professional bump photos taken, hopefully they'll come out just like I wanted.
My feet/ankles are starting to be pretty much permanently swollen - my feet go tingly when I'm walking for a while, and went numb doing spinning at the gym yesterday.
The wierdest thing of all is that as I have got bigger (quite considerably in the last 2 weeks or so) my back has improved and doesn't get nearly as painful. I haven't had to have acupuncture for at least 2 weeks. To me this would be the opposite to what I expected.
Trying not to be scared about the birth - it might help that I don't know what to expect and there really isn't anything I can do about it now!
Totally agree about the long 8 months - well I'd say a long 6 months and then this last trimester seems to have flown by.

hewlettsdaughter · 10/03/2004 20:40

Professional bump photos - wow! Those of you who already have children, how are you preparing them for the new arrival? I have asked about books (particularly ones which feature homebirth, or don't make a big deal out of where the baby's born) on other threads but am not having much response.
(Sounds like your dd's got it all sorted, Fennel ).

dolbear · 10/03/2004 21:28

oh to be 4 ! ah ha I have been caught on the rant , i love that thread , makes me feel so much better !
no piles , but I do have restless leg syndrome , v anoying my pins and needles has no stopped , thanks for the advice , have changed my chair and posture at work made a big difference ! two days left hurrah
realy bad back and neck ache and yes mainly on the left hand side after sleeping on my left too much I think , does anyone know if it actualy makes any proven difference ?

handlemecarefully · 10/03/2004 21:30

H-daughter,

I'm finding it hard to prepare my dd for the arrival of her brother - she is almost 20 months old now but still a bit young to understand IMO. I have got a couple of books featuring the arrival of new babies and have read these to her. How much she relates this to her mummy and herself and I don't know!

When I point to my bump and ask her 'what's that?', she replies 'baby' but whether she really understands this or is just repeating what I told her I don't know....

Tbh her reaction to her baby brother is the single issue which is bothering me the most!

How old is your child again?
