Anyone due in April 2004?!

Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Hi folks, I haven't contributed to this thread for a while - I had a bad cold, and we're having major building work done, it's all been a bit mad. Anyway, had my 20-week scan last Friday, all fine. Issue 5 of Janet Balaskas' birth and baby diary (see www.activebirthcentre.com) has something about encouraging your baby into a favourable position.

dot1 · 15/12/2003 14:31

Is anyone else starting to get a bit breathless? I've noticed my breathing's getting a bit like Darth Vader - probably doesn't help that I've got a bit of a cold (and am completely unfit..!) but I reckon baby must have done a bit more growing and it's squashing me..!

I haven't really noticed the breathing thing yet, but have noticed the tiny appetite. Maybe a positioning thing?

dot1 · 16/12/2003 15:54

well, my Mum's always going on about how she carried me 'high' and I was always kicking her in the ribs - I know how she felt now! Don't know if this is an old wives' tale thing - presumably you can't really carry babies low or high, but the kicking does seem to be up at the top of my tummy most of the time, with more movement towards the top than down at the bottom!

dot1 - I haven't had a problem with breathing - yet. However I do suffer from asthma anyway so can get breathless at any time. I find the cold weather doesn't help either.

I went for an nct refresher class yesterday. It was surprising how much I had forgotten but found it really good. I am hoping that this time around my labour won't be such a nightmare as it was last time. I'm a real chicken when it comes to pain too, but am seriously considering to see if I can get by with gas and air.

Looking forward to having a slap up meal at christmas though. However I'll be so jealous when dh is drinking his port and eating stilton

dot1 · 17/12/2003 09:16

I'm starting to get blind panics about the birth - possibly doesn't help that I keep reading everyone's labour/birth stories on various threads and what freaks me out is that nothing's predictable... and I just can't do pain! Should possibly have thought of this about six months ago....! Does bring me some comfort that dp has completely forgotten about her labour, which was truly awful, but it still doesn't make me feel any happier about having to go through it myself!

I've booked a couple of NCT sessions in January and then classes at St Mary's in Feb/March. Looking forward to going to them from the pregnant person's point of view, rather than the partner!

just booked my antenatal sessions at St Mary's London for the end of Jan.
I don't think it is worth the energy about freaking about the birth - the thought makes me feel physically ill but there isn't much I can do about it now. Apparently you can get books which just have positive birthing story after positive, hopefully that'll make me feel more positive and confident about it all. A friend did this and had a really positive birth experience.
As for kicking, I've not had any movement near my ribs at all, it is all really low around or below my belly button.

dot1 · 17/12/2003 14:56

I know - I'm being daft 'cos it's going to happen whatever...

I had the funniest kicks just earlier - right up near my chest - could see my body moving! So weird - then sometimes they'll be low down, but more often than not right up at the top of my ribs (it seems!).

Hi,

Can I muscle in and join this thread? I'm due in April too.....(19th)

Metrobaby · 17/12/2003 15:24

Welcome HMC ! I had no idea you were pg too. Congratulations.

handlemecarefully · 17/12/2003 15:56

Metrobaby - thanks for the congrats. I'll try and pop in to this thread regularly now if that's okay....

Will have to read whole of thread from the start to catch up - that should take some doing!

dot1 · 17/12/2003 16:05

Hello HMC! I hadn't realised either - we need to get a list up and running really of who's due and when (not that I'm volunteering..!).

OP posts:
udar · 18/12/2003 11:49

I'll start:
Hospital says 31/3 but 40wks from what I would calculate as ovulation is 6/4 - so I think that is my due date which is why I'm in this thread.

Fennel · 18/12/2003 11:57

welcome HMC

I am due 12 april (Easter Monday) by the scan, 17 by last period dates. my birthday's 19 april.

dot1 · 18/12/2003 12:22

I'm March 31st but by ovulation possibly a few days earlier in reality and my scans and growth measurements are showing baby's about a week bigger - not that that means anything really but I like to tell myself I hopefully won't go too far past my due date!!

OP posts:
udar · 18/12/2003 14:54

The doctor in New York told us that as the baby gets older dating by scan gets more inaccurate as when they dated by scan for me it made the baby almost 2 weeks older than what it was.
I'm hoping for not too far past my due date too - going to be doing the rasberry leaf tea at 34wks onwards as well as doing a 4 week course of accupuncture which can help prepare you and baby for childbirth as well apparently. I said I was going to do everything didn't I.

dot1 · 18/12/2003 15:10

I'm not finishing work until 37 weeks, so won't be trying to get it out until then! It's funny - I'm dreading the birth but want it over and done with asap - unless we still haven't moved into our house (survey being done as I type..!), in which case I'll be holding on for dear life!!

OP posts:
udar · 18/12/2003 16:22

I was thinking 38wks would be ideal.

dot1 · 19/12/2003 08:55

I'd love it to be the day before my due date, as that's dp's birthday - wouldn't have to bother with any other presents then! But she says that would be stealing her birthday thunder, so maybe not...! I'm so impatient at the moment - have constant countdowns in my head - 10 weeks until I can pack my hospital bag! 11 weeks until maternity leave!! ooh, and I had my first 'giving birth' dream last night and it all went fine!!

I'm going completely barking - help....!

OP posts:
Metrobaby · 19/12/2003 14:47

dot1 - all pg women are allowed to be barking. In fact all mums (esp new ones) are also allowed to be barking too. Goes with the terriority I say.

I've just eaten a caramel crunch cheesecake from Pret and i have to say I highly recommend it

bluecow · 19/12/2003 21:16

Welcome new peeps. Dot1 - I've been getting a bit breathless when I go up the stairs. I've put on about 8lbs (I'm 23+2) today. My current craving is mince pies - I can't wait till my ds is down for his morning nap so I can have a pie (or two) and a big cup of coffee!
Anyone picked any names yet?

libb · 19/12/2003 22:40

Dear Metrobaby,

Couldn't help but nosy in on in expectant mums in April - just to see what I have to look forward to in the next few weeks (due 09.05) and am pleased to see you recommend the Pret cheescake, I was worried for a moment but now feel I have free licence! I also like the lemon one too, v. nice!!

handlemecarefully · 20/12/2003 10:53

Dot1 - There's nothing like being prepared is there! (i.e. dreaming about giving birth already!)

Metrobaby - congrats on winning the mumsnet competition. I never seem to get around to entering.

Bluecow - yes sort of (re names), I've narrowed it down to Spencer Scott or Scott Spencer! Have you got any thoughts on names for sproglet?

Incidentally, is anyone experiencing nocturnal leg cramps? I had them last pregnancy but thought I had escaped them this time around. However this week I have been woken on two nights (once at 2.40 and the other at 4.15) with excrutiating cramp. Its horrible! Husband really enjoys it too (not), since the blood curdling screams tend to wake him up!

dot1 · 22/12/2003 09:06

owww to leg cramps! Fortunately they don't wake me up, but when I wake up to have a wee in the night, I have to remember now to get up really slowly, or I get them and they're HORRIBLE! So I sit up really really slowly and dp always thinks I'm feeling dizzy and we have the same conversation that I'm not etc.etc.....(neither of us are sleeping very well at the moment..!).

My latest moan - lower back ache on the right hand side, kind of going down my right leg. I'm going to do a search for pregnancy back exercises, but if anyone's got one I'd be grateful! It's not awful (yet) but up until the last few days I've just had it when sitting down/standing up, whereas now it's also when I'm walking around and I really don't want it getting any worse - I need to keep working until 37 weeks!

Any advice much appreciated - I'm trying to keep my spine straight but bump makes me want to lean backwards!

OP posts:
Metrobaby · 22/12/2003 09:30

Oooo - I remember getting leg cramps last time - although I have yet to experience them. Do you think its got anything to do with water intake ?

I've given up weighing myself now. I know a couple of weeks ago I put on a stone but I am really enjoying all the xmas goodies now. I keep telling myself its a small consolation for not having any alcohol.

HMC - I think this is only the second competition I have ever entered on Mumsnet. But I am so pleased as this is the first competition in my life that I have ever won Although I still don't know what I have won. Luckily dd is a real tomboy so I think she'll be ever so chuffed with the prize.

libb - the cheesecakes from Eat are also rather yummy too

dot1 - I suffer from back pain even when not pg. Its awful. I can recommend sitting on a pilates/birthing ball to help with posture. You can do this whilst watching TV - although if your ds is around and if he is anything like my dd who believes it is her toy so I don't get a look in.

There are also some yoga and pilates stretches you can do to help allievate the back pain. I got a pg pilates video using a pilates ball. There are also various books on yoga and pilates stretches you can do safely in pg. Unforunately I am usually so tired from working and looking after dd I have hardly done them so thinking of joining an antenatal yoga class in Jan.
