Pampers v Huggies

Which would you recommend? (Surely we can't be the only ones planning on using disposables?!)

With the Asda baby and toddler event starting again today we were planning on stocking up a bit. We have a few packs of pampers already but wondered which brand people prefer and why?

Thanks in advance.

Personally prefer Pampers. Found they didn't leak and kept DD very dry, never having any rash. Found Huggies a bit slimy at times. I have tried the major supermarket brands and biodegradeable ones too and found that once DD was older Aldi nappies have been just as good as Pampers, a little bulkier but nearly half the price. HTH

I fond all nappies good, pampers, huggies, own brands. I just buy what's on offer!

mamasunshine · 27/07/2010 09:29

I never liked huggies. Used pampers for ds1 but they have always leaked with ds2 . The best nappies I've used for ds2 have been the aldi's nappies - never any leaks! Also sainsbury's own are very good.

MisSalLaneous · 27/07/2010 09:29

We used to use Pampers but their current design seems to be useless for us (leaks all the time!), so have switched to Huggies. Tesco own brand not too bad either (better than Pampers at the moment).

Bessie123 · 27/07/2010 09:34

Have you tried Nature nappies or Moltex? They are a bit more environmentally friendly. Did you know that Huggies and Pampers take approx. 2 million years to biodegrade?

orangehead · 27/07/2010 09:38

Huggies, pampers always leaked on us

DetectivePotato · 27/07/2010 09:47

I've never liked either. They have both leaked for me. Tesco own used to be great but they changed and started leaking. I have found that Lidl are the best and a damn sight cheaper than pampers and huggies. There is no need to get brand names.

vmcd28 · 27/07/2010 09:53

oooh, I'm confused now, and will watch this with interest! Used pampers with DS1, who's now 5.5, as Huggies always always leaked with him.
BUT I'm now a little worried that everyone is saying pampers arent what they used to be!! I'd get a small packet of each kind you want to try - honestly, you'll very quickly know which ones you prefer.
I'm going to try the "greener" ones this time. Cant remember what brand Boots sell, but they were on offer last week, and were actually cheaper than Pampers and Huggies...

nicm · 27/07/2010 10:00

i use cloth but when ds was nb i used nature babycare from boots and then dp got huggies from tesco. have used pampers when childminding and they always have a funny smell when they have pee in them!

MisSalLaneous · 27/07/2010 10:18

One thing to remember if you go for the greener option - there is no point if you then wrap them in a normal plastic nappy bag!

Bessie123 · 27/07/2010 10:27

That's true re the nappy bags but it is quite easy to get biodegradable ones now, even local coops sell them

ohnelly · 27/07/2010 10:28

I prefer Pampers - huggies dont seem to fit properly on my DS and leak

HaveToWearHeels · 27/07/2010 10:34

Pampers all the way for me, LO never has nappy rash and they always seemed softer and more flexible than Huggies. But after reading this I think I will give Aldi a try next time I am passing.

Debs75 · 27/07/2010 10:44

I have used pampers on all 3 and never had any major problems. Bought some huggies last month and they leak, fall off and give dd nappy rash. I only use them on a night or when I don't have enough reusables for the day so I can put up with the occasional naff pack. Haven't tried the new pampers active fit which are meant to be rubbish, much prefer the baby dry

caramelwaffle · 27/07/2010 10:44

Huggies. Pampers always used to leak. However, if there are Lidl/Aldi nappies that do not leak, buy those one's: the cost of nappies is shocking, and brand names mean nothing to a pooey bum.

mamaloco · 27/07/2010 10:48

Pampers are leaking badly with babies with a round bottom. DD2 had a rash with them (they used Pampers at the hospital), DD1 with Huggies. Always found that supermarkets and boots own brands were best especially if old fashionned (no green or bleu pads inside, just cotton). But then I am allergic to Always so it might be a familly thing.
They have actually shown that there is no ecological differences with normal nappies and biodegradable ones, just the price. So stick with the cheapest and potty train as soon as possible.

5DollarShake · 27/07/2010 11:02

I tried all sorts with DS1 and always came back to Pampers - they're so thin and stretchy, and hardly any leaks - inevitable leaks with other brands.

I'm hoping it will be the same with DC2 - but you never know!

5yearsto40bob · 27/07/2010 11:06

huggies have given both my children nappy rash and never fitted properly.
Used to love pampers, but they've changed them recently and now they are completely rubbish. Leak and go saggy at the slightest little wee.

5yearsto40bob · 27/07/2010 11:08

Another thumbs up for Aldi, just started using them and they're so much cheaper and do a really good job.

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 27/07/2010 12:47

we have also stocked up on sizes 1-4+ not loads of each but enough that will save us some money when I am on stat mat pay - boo hoo!!

Sz 1 we have brought pampers, huggies, sainsburys and boots own will get changed so often not an issue.

sz 2 - we have brought 1pk of sz 1-2 sainsburys eco nappies, aldi, pampers and huggies

sz3 - have brought pampers active, pampers normal, huggies, wilkinsons own

sz 4 and 4+ are all pampers active fit from where tesco had them on bogof while back.

Tesco currently have the carry packs pampers £9 on bogof from sz 3 up I think.

Zimm · 27/07/2010 13:00

Uurrgh niether - nasty nappies made by huge companies with no ethical standards. Full of chemicals and take a half a cup of crude oil to make each...

Hevster · 27/07/2010 13:41

have used them all and only prob was leaking with supermarket own brand in the early days

parkj83 · 27/07/2010 13:47

out of those two, I'd pick pampers every time, but I agree about Aldi's too.

bamboobutton · 27/07/2010 13:47

pampers are shit since they changed the design. they leak after an hour and they gave my dd a terrible rash, almost like a chemical burn.

huggies are ok but nature baby care are my faves. will be back to using resuables when dds wind is better though.

onadietcokebreak · 27/07/2010 13:49

I would buy either. Just dont stock up too much. I liked Tescos too..very reasonably priced.
