I need some objectivity - How many mcs? how many dcs? how old are you?

hi, just wanted to hear some stories so i can have an objective view rather than make things up in my worried mind.

am 39, have had two previous mcs, with a perfect gorgeous ds in between, and think am having another mc.

any info relating to three mcs on internet seem to relate to women who have not had any succesful pregnancies.

please give me a bit of perspective on this.

many thanks

I am 29 and have had.

DS

MC early 6 weeks.

DD

Bethy40 · 26/07/2010 10:11

27 DS1

MC at 5 weeks

29 DS2

33 DS3

Ectopic at about 8 weeks which ruptured and I lost my R tube aged 38

I'm currently 40 (nearly 41) and 25 weeks tomorrow with DC4.

Good luck.

One thing I've noticed with mine (which is almost certainly total coincidence) is that my pregnancies due in the winter seem to stick while my pregnancies due in the summer miscarry.

5DollarShake · 26/07/2010 10:26

One thing I have noticed is that pretty much every Mum I know, and there are a lot, have had at least one miscarriage. It is so, so common.

I'm 36.

Had one m/c at about 6 weeks aged 33.

Another m/c at about 5 weeks aged 34.

I then got pregnant with DS1 the cycle following that (he is 18 months old now).

I am now nearly 39 weeks with DC2.

Panda222 · 26/07/2010 14:29

I'm 35

MMC1 at 7 weeks - no heartbeat ever detected at 6wk scan

DD - now nearly 3 yrs old

MMC2 on saturday morning two days ago - heartbeat detected at 8 weeks. 12 week scan revealed baby had died around 9 weeks.

One of my colleagues gave birth to her first child two weeks ago at 40yrs old. She had tried for years to conceive and had even resorted to IVF but concieved naturally in the end. She had problems with endometriosis and her hormone levels and still managed it. Don't give up hope

ragged · 26/07/2010 14:31

Me: 4 healthy live births, no MC.

I know someone who has had 4 healthy live births and at least 4 MC.

My mom had at least 2 of each, too.

I had one very early mc.(like a late period) at 31-32 (not a planned preg), and then one deliberately conceived child at 41,another planned child at 43.Am now 46.

DinahRod · 26/07/2010 14:34

I hv had 3 pg, no mc, although 1 threatened.

My mother had 4 mc, 2 successful pg. I did wonder if there would be a genetic susceptibility but thankfully not.

SilveryMoon · 26/07/2010 14:37

Hi.
I'm 28. I have had 3 mc's and 2 ds's.
I had 2 mc's then had ds1, then mc, then ds2.

I had first mc at 20 (10 weeks), second at 22 (8 weeks), ds1 was born when I was 25 (so pregnant at 24), mc'd at 26 (6 weeks) and fell pregnant 6 weeks later, went full term.

hippychick66 · 26/07/2010 16:08

DS1 - when I was 33
DS2 - when I was 36
MMC (11.5 weeks) when I was 43
MC (7 weeks) when I was 43

Trying again now - still 43 (horrid year so far!!!)

Before this year I had only been pregnant twice and both were successful. I had no idea before how common MC's were. I now realise that only a few women get through life without at least 1 MC (unless they are never pregnant of course).

I do worry about my age and I do think it is relevant to the MC's BUT I am hopeful that I will have one more successful pregnancy.

Good luck?? You say you think you're having an MC - how are you now??

sh77 · 26/07/2010 16:21

Let me add my chequered history into the pot.

I am 33.

DD1 (April 09) - born at term but passed away after a day.

MC1 (Nov 09) - pregnant 5 months after DD1 passed away. Took 3 months to conceive. MC at 9 weeks (baby stopped growing at 5.5-6 wks).

MC2 (June 10) - chemical pregnancy. Started bleeding 4 days after +ve preg test. Preg happened month we started trying.

Preg 4 - (July 10) - got preg 2 weeks after previous MC. Currently 6+1. Early scan next week.

Not thinking too far ahead but there are many many happy endings on this board. Hope I will have one too.

Wish you all the best.

mathanxiety · 26/07/2010 16:25

I'm not contemplating any more babies at this point. I've had 4 mcs and 5 successful pregnancies. So almost half and half.

Had DC1 no problems, straightforward pregnancy, at 25/26.
Then 3 mcs in a row, each at 6-8 weeks, all at 28.
Then DC2 with the help of progesterone therapy, at 28/29.
Followed by DC3, no progesterone needed, no problems at all, at 30/31.
Then mc #4, different from the previous ones as it was at 13 weeks, at age 33.
Immediately got pregnant with DC4, had no problems at all during pregnancy, age 32/33.
Followed by DC5, again, pregnancy complicated by anemia and gestational diabetes; at 37. I did have a prenatal test for Down's, but refused amnio.

Hope you're ok?

It's depressing in the extreme to have multiple mcs, especially if they're unexplained. They tested for genetic abnormalities after my third in a row, and came up with nothing. At that point progesterone therapy was commenced (this involved progesterone suppositories).

xxxx to everyone going through this.

am 40

dd (born when i was 31), followed by

m/c at 11 weeks

m/c at 7 weeks

ds

BigGapMum · 26/07/2010 16:41

DS1 when I was much younger

MMC at 12 weeks when I was 40

MC at 9 weeks

MC at 6 weeks

DS born when I was 42.

I did have tests , but they didn't identify the reason for the MCs. I think that you just have to accept that when you get older you are at higher risk of losing your baby, and be prepared for the possibility of that if you want another child. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I'm trying to be realistic.
Really hope your pregnancy is OK though.
Best Wishes.

hippychick66 · 26/07/2010 18:58

I realised when I said "horrid year so far" that I sounded a bit - ahh poor me. When I read this properly there are so many people with multiple losses or losses within the same year. The very next person SH77 has had a really rough time of it. Hope I didn't sound all sorry for myself.

This thread has really opened my eyes. I guess it just is the law of averages.

I think, as has been said before, that people don't always talk about how many MC's they have had and it's only when you have one or two that people come crawling out of the woodwork telling you their experiences. And then you realise that you're not alone.
xx

35 years, 1st mc at 28 (9 wks), 2nd mc 28 (5/6 wks), 3rd mc 29 (5/6 wks), 4th mc 31 (7/8 wks). DS born when I was 32, DD at 34 and pregnant again (10/11 weeks)- scan next week.

After a hell of a lot of misdiagnosis, was found to have PCOS so put on metformin and possible lupus anticoagulant- have injected enoxoparin through successful pregnancies to 34 weeks and taken low dose aspirin. I had completely given up hope of having a successful pregnancy, and my luck changed when I visited Bourne Hall in Cambs and was referred to St Mary's, Paddington. Found that it really does depend who you see. My experience of the NHS prior to viable pregnancies was pretty useless- they simply won't investigate till you have had 3 recurrent miscarriages. Also, a private hospital misdiagnosed me as not having PCOS when all along I suspected I had. By the way, if anyone has got this, please check out the diets on the web- one very high profile American one where you can download the book. Prior to this pregnancy I stopped taking metformin and completely changed my diet- became pregnant within 2 months.

NinthWave · 26/07/2010 20:55

I am 30 and had 2 MCs, then my DS, then another MC, and now 29 weeks pregnant with DC2.

sotough · 26/07/2010 21:06

hi, i've just turned 36. Had DS when I was 32, followed by four first trimester miscarriages. it's been hell. am now 15 weeks pregnant after endless inconclusive tests and some interesting medication. not taking anything for granted.

taffetacatski · 26/07/2010 21:28

mmc at age 35
DS at age 36
mmc at age 37
DD at age 39

kalo12 · 26/07/2010 21:55

thanks everybody, went for a rescan today, after going on friday when there was some blood in the womb and total loss of symptoms, they told me to go back today, i went expecting worse but the pregnancy had grown, still no symptoms and have got to go back next week, what do you think?

OP posts:
mumatron · 26/07/2010 22:19

how far along are you kalo?

kalo12 · 26/07/2010 22:24

5 1/2 weeks

OP posts:
mumatron · 26/07/2010 22:38

well if the sonographer was happy with what they saw then i would try and stay as positive as possible. i can imagine you rolling your eyes at the screen there! i know it's not as easy as that to just relax

i didn't have this with any of my mc, they were later on. my cousin had a scan at 5 1/2 weeks after quite heavy bleeding and all they could see was a sac. she went back at 8 wks and baby there, infact he was born a few weeks ago.

i know it's not much comfort to hear other peoples stories sometimes.

will keep my fingers firmly crossed for you.

kalo12 · 26/07/2010 22:40

it is definately alot of comfort to hear other people's stories. thankyou mumatron
