Outgrown Drynites?

DS is 9 and isn’t dry at night. We’ve always used the drynite pajama pants 8-15, apparently the largest ones they make even though he barely fits into them as an average sized 9 year old. They haven’t always been 100% reliable with leaking but for the past couple of weeks they have been completely useless! His bed is completely soaked most mornings (we limit his fluids at night), which is really affecting his quality of sleep and I’m fed of washing his sheets every morning.

Does anyone know of or use any alternatives?I really struggle to believe that drynites work for anyone older than 10, even though they’re advertised as going up to age 15!

Have you seen a gp with him?

We saw GP around a year ago who prescribed Desmopressin, which frustratingly had little to no effect even after we increased the dose. GP said keep limited his fluids and watching his diet, and he should grow out of it.

Adult small sized tena pants?

Have you seen a continence nurse?

PickAChew · 17/02/2025 21:12

DS2 moved into Libero sleep tight when he outgrew the drynights. The larger size did fit him until he was about 13-14. It's adult incontinence pads after that.

ForMellowGreyOrca · 17/02/2025 21:40

Did the libero ones leak at all? Only asking as they are advertised as the same size as the drynites. From the link in the previous post it looks like the tena slip junior nappies would be best. Does anyone have any experience with them?

The best method is supposed to be a bed pad alarm, but you have to adjust the covering to stop false alarms. We found it quite effective (though we did get a lot of false alarms, it only took a couple of weeks. DD was about 9 I think.

This is assuming no underlying reason, of course, like developmental delay.

IncessantNameChanger · 17/02/2025 21:48

Lidl incontinence pants. They are similar price and you can put one of the Lidi incontinence pads in also as a booster.

My disabled son wet the bed until.he was 11, under urenesis ( sp?) Team then one day he was just dry. Never thought he would be.

We're in same position. Eric is less than useless. A bed alarm doesn't work for DS who just won't wake up. Desmopress doesn't work. And no developmental delays. It's so frustrating for him.

MissyB1 · 17/02/2025 22:10

Our ds was 9 when we finally got him dry through a combination of desmopressin and the bed alarm (bought it off amazon). Desmopressin on its own had not worked. We did see the incontinence team in our local paediatric department at the hospital.

ladygindiva · 17/02/2025 22:12

Hi I have an 8 year old DD who still wets the bed, I use "Kylie" sheets on the bed and no pyjama bottoms . I also make up the spare bed ( she has a twin room, and a twin, but her twin has moved herself into the box room) so if she wets she knows to just hop into the other made up bed. Saves the mountains of laundry.

ladygindiva · 17/02/2025 22:14

Cannot recommend highly enough. Saves on laundry , they are so absorbent. This type of thing.

Thinking of trying the bed alarms again but doubt they will work as ds is a heavy sleeper like yours and when we last used them they just woke everyone else in the house up instead!
GP did say he ‘should’ grow out of it, which i’m just praying to be true. It is very frustrating especially when it seems it’s getting worse instead of better as he gets older. And I know the embarrassment he feels about it still needing to wear pull ups on planes and long car journeys. I doubt he will be very receptive to the idea of nappies at night as well.

Tena junior slips may be too small if 8-15yrs drynites are too small. Tena’s adult incontinence pants start at XS though if pants would work better than slips.

You could look at boots’ adult incontinence pants too.

will definitely look into these, although they don’t stop the sheets from getting wet right?
Does your DD wear pull ups as well as the bed pads?

Those pads do stop the sheets getting wet, yes.
We have a peapod but DS finds it uncomfortable so we have stopped using it.
He was leaking through the drynites every night here, but then I found the teen ones. Specifically the drynites that have 'teens' on the pack, they catch all the wee now and he has stopped leaking through.
I did try the men's tena but they were too big, even the smallest size. Teen drynites have been a godsend.

natalieplusone · 17/02/2025 22:28

Link not worked try these in XS

The bigger size is much bigger than drynites. They only started to leak when he was getting too big for them.

In my experience they prevent the bedding getting wet and soak up all the wee, which is fantastic as the extra laundry was tipping me over the edge. I stopped using pull-ups on my DD as she started getting sore down there, so only use them when we have to now ( long journeys , holidays etc)
