Outgrown Drynites?

DS is 9 and isn’t dry at night. We’ve always used the drynite pajama pants 8-15, apparently the largest ones they make even though he barely fits into them as an average sized 9 year old. They haven’t always been 100% reliable with leaking but for the past couple of weeks they have been completely useless! His bed is completely soaked most mornings (we limit his fluids at night), which is really affecting his quality of sleep and I’m fed of washing his sheets every morning.

Does anyone know of or use any alternatives?I really struggle to believe that drynites work for anyone older than 10, even though they’re advertised as going up to age 15!

Thanks a bunch. Leaning more towards the tena products as they seem to be very trustworthy. Are the pro skin pants less absorbent then the slips?

Those pads do stop the sheets getting wet, yes.
We have a peapod but DS finds it uncomfortable so we have stopped using it.
He was leaking through the drynites every night here, but then I found the teen ones. Specifically the drynites that have 'teens' on the pack, they catch all the wee now and he has stopped leaking through.
I did try the men's tena but they were too big, even the smallest size. Teen drynites have been a godsend.

Which size tena did you try if I you mind me asking? I thought that the xs sizes were specifically meant for children?

@ForMellowGreyOrca I think I got these ones, definitely for men so I can see why they were too big.

I also tried the pull ups in the second pic, he leaked straight through them.

Although the drynites teens are for the same weight as the Libero ones, they seem to work much better for us.

Although of course you may have already tried them, just wanted to suggest in case you haven't, I know how desperate I was when the poor kid was soaking the bed every night and I couldn't find anything that worked!

We're in same position. Eric is less than useless. A bed alarm doesn't work for DS who just won't wake up. Desmopress doesn't work. And no developmental delays. It's so frustrating for him.

We had to wake DD at first (the alarm woke us but not her) and then she started waking herself. First we'd go in to find her waking up but wet, then she started waking as the first wee leaked out and then she cracked it.

The smallest size of the men’s Tena pants are much bigger than the smaller sizes of Tena’s unisex pants. Tena’s adult XS pants aren’t specifically for children (although some children needing incontinence products use them). They are a bit bigger than the junior slips.

Thanks. The teen drynites are the ones we use currently which don’t seem to work at all for him. I think somebody previously said on the thread the libero pull ups work a lot better than the drynites so each to their own I guess!
Think tena unisex will be best but unsure on which ones to get.

I don’t think there is a universal better. They are different and suit different people differently.

Umm, GP should have referred you to the Paeds urology team at age 5.....

Call the ERIC hotline.

And you can buy bigger overnight pants from them.
The urology nurse can also prescribe them.

But they usually get you to try their suggestions first.

Ie how to get dry.

Keep a diary is the first step.

Make sure kid drinks enough etc.

But you should have seen the urology team by now (I have an 8yo and been under the urology team since Dec 2023. Was hard to get onto the list tho)

incognitomummy · 17/02/2025 23:42

Speak to the ERIC hotline

Beg GP for referral to urology team. SENco at school too.

However wait times are long.
So the ERIC website and helpline are your best friend in the short term. But get on the list now.

an alarm might work (Amazon have some but you may need a baby listening device as well and be willing to get up when the alarm goes off)

Alarm for our 8yo has been brilliant.
Used alongside the ERIC night time diary.

Our urology nurse recommends double layering the bed. Ie waterproof sheet (hippychick), normal sheet & waterproof bed mat (Hygge Sheets® Potty Training Bed... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CRY9YBSY?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare )
then repeat
If there is an accident you just take off the first layer, send them to the loo and then start again.
If it's only a little accident then removing the bed mat may be enough.

incognitomummy · 17/02/2025 23:45

Btw with the alarm our nurse recommends trying the alarm before bed so it doesn't scare your kid.

And. Very important. DOUBLE PANTS!
Pop on first pair
And then the 2nd. Attach the alarm sensor to the 2nd pair. Stops false alarms.

drspouse · 18/02/2025 12:17

We used a bed pad alarm due to the false alarm issue. Also used double layering.
