where to go next....so now my son will usually tell me when he needs a wee and as long as we move quickly he wees and poos on the potty. At the moment it is about every hour or so. but how can I get out and about now (we have been in for a week!!) I might be making more of an issue than needed but what if he needs it when we are driving along...or say in the shops and not immediately near a toilet...as he cant wait very long?! doing the school run etc...im bit worried about managing it..how long before they learn to hold on until a toilet is reached. At the moment aswell he cant just wee before we head out as he just says its not coming yet. Thanks

Hope everyone has had a good Saturday!

Dd hasn't had a single accident today!! We have been out and although she still mostly says no when asked if she wanted a wee she has also said yes a couple of times and wee'd when put on the potty.

Cotton how is your dd today?

jellybean321 · 03/04/2016 00:05

That's great news wheresthel1ght hopefully she will keep it up...yes this strange clingy behaviour is a real step backwards and not settling to.play with anything and quite tired ...maybe its really tiring for them like cotton socks you have said..I don't know but its driving me round the bend..x

I remember DS being very tired when we began potty training. He was on the verge of cutting out daytime naps before we started - only napping on some days, struggling to get to sleep etc. But when we started training, he slept a couple of hours every day. Things returned to normal when we abandoned training and then when he "got" it so I'm sure it was the potty training that caused the tiredness.

CottonSock · 03/04/2016 09:41

We had an ok few days, did well in mornings, but accidents in afternoon when I think she's more tired. She was also distracted out in garden. Temperature better so I don't think anything serious, need to call for lab results tomorrow. I saw a friend who is a gp yesterday and he said getting a uti is quite common (with girls especially) holding in wee and does not always show on dipstick.

I was up a lot wirh her in night with her coughing.
In retrospect, this was not the week to start but guess I did not have crystal ball. I've had conjunctivitis too.

Gread to hear of progress, I'm sure we will get there. I don't want to give up as new baby in June.
Nursery tomorrow! I've just finished 2 weeks annual leave and feel like I need a holiday

3 days with no accidents ladies!!! She is starting to tell me she needs a wee well once, today at a friend's an dis telling me when she needs to do a poo.

How is it going for you?

CottonSock · 06/04/2016 20:03

That's brilliant. Such quick progress.
Still accidents here but much much better. She's not holding it in all day anymore and using potty at Nursery.
I hope we've turned a corner, I was seriously considering giving up (but asked her and she wanted to carry on).

wheresthel1ght · 06/04/2016 20:11

That's great progress cotton! And if she wants to carry on then that is great.

My hv popped out for a visit yesterday and said that we needed to risk the accidents and let her go longer between asking about the potty so she started to learn what it felt like when her bladder was fuller so we have moved it up to about every hour now and will push to 90 mins next week I think.

CottonSock · 10/04/2016 09:57

Much better here. No accidents at home this week, so into third day dry. Nursery much better, but still finding it harder than home. I think we are almost there :)

wheresthel1ght · 10/04/2016 21:42

That's really good! Dd is almost consistently dry at home but gets lost in the shuffle at the cm's in a morning during the school rush. She ends up wet but then once that is done with and the rush is over she is fine.

She has been dry all weekend which has been fab as we have been to visit my dsis who has recently moved house so she had never been there and is been brilliant!

DD was very resistant to trying, so I started tiny bribes for a genuine try (could tell by her face).

The doctors surgery and the hospital have never been a problem, and we have a LOT of appointments. Just tell the receptionist when you go, and if your turn comes whilst you are at the loo they'll let the next person in instead, then you go after. We've had to do it a few times. No one seems to mind!

DS was perhaps a bit older then some of the DC on this thread (2.10) when I toilet trained him but he coped perfectly fine with outings. Like one of the pp said - he was able to hold much longer than at home, maybe just because he was busy doing stuff.
Tbh I don't agree with the whole nappy-no nappy confusion theory. I put a pull up on him the first couple of times we were out when toilet training. I did it mainly because he would get very upset when an accident happened ('mummy I made a mess, such bad mess' and endless tears) that I didn't want to put him through this when we were out. I'm all for the gentle approach though whatever we do and I appreciate it might not be for everyone. Having said that, DS got the hang of toilet training in 2 days and would only have a very rare accident.
