where to go next....so now my son will usually tell me when he needs a wee and as long as we move quickly he wees and poos on the potty. At the moment it is about every hour or so. but how can I get out and about now (we have been in for a week!!) I might be making more of an issue than needed but what if he needs it when we are driving along...or say in the shops and not immediately near a toilet...as he cant wait very long?! doing the school run etc...im bit worried about managing it..how long before they learn to hold on until a toilet is reached. At the moment aswell he cant just wee before we head out as he just says its not coming yet. Thanks

She has woken up full of the joys today so am hoping today will go well. As for trips out in the car, puppy training pads folded into quarters make excellent protection!

Re the doctors, I would go before you leave the house and then again when you get there. Explain to the receptionist when you get her that you are potty training and ask her if she could let you know when the person before you goes in so you can take ds to the loo before your turn and then take him again before you get in the car

Please don't flame me.

We didn't have money for a disposable potty, so with both my boys we waited until they had done their poo of the day (they were both pretty regular). Then we would utilise one of the benefits of having a boy....we would use a (very well wrapped and labelled) bottle. We would dispose of the wee at the very first available opportunity, down a toilet, and wash it out and re-wrap it.

I debated whether or not to post this as I'm sure some people might find this unsavoury, but we never had a problem with it.

DustyOwl · 29/03/2016 08:50

Also just got really fed up with being stuck inside with a very energetic boy.

Artandco · 29/03/2016 08:50

For the doctors I would just take before you leave house, then on arrival say there's no toilets in the doctors actual room so you both have to try now ( you can pretend if not desperate!)

It's getting them in the habit of them knowing they should try before desperate as toilets aren't just everywhere so the opportunity isn't so easy.

Personally we never used a potty. We travel a lot and go places where tbh we couldn't just whip out a potty and let them go, so they had to learn to go before or wait, or they weren't really ready. Before flights we did the same, toilet on arrival at airport, toilet again just before boarding flight ( we are never in airport long so only about 30 mins between the two), then they would be OK to wait until at least seatbelt signs off. Then we would take every hour approx whilst on plane. This was just as precaution as a damp sticky seat wouldn't be great.

At first we did put a nappy on though if they would be likely to sleep for example on long car journeys late, on on planes if late and flighing overnight, as they wore to bed a few months longer than in the day.

Artandco · 29/03/2016 08:52

Oh and I have always let mine wee up trees in discreet places if no toilet available ie large parks.

flingingmelon · 29/03/2016 09:10

Good luck today all.

Not made it to Creche yet as DS keeps getting back in the potty. No morning poo yet so I'm a bit nervous about the fifteen minutes in the car.

CottonSock · 29/03/2016 09:22

Day 5 here and all going well so far. Two days dry, and night time too which was quite a surprise. She's wearing a pull up overnight but it's been dry.

She's in Nursery today with lots of spare clothes. I know she has to go at some point, but I'm feeling a bit worried for her.

Re doctors, I'd agree to let receptionist know. I'm sure it will be fine and anyway if not, just change of clothes.

I don't think there is anything wrong at all with using a bottle for wee-wee. (Probably would try it myself if I had 'boy bits' as I have a weak bladder).

Good luck today

jellybean321 · 29/03/2016 12:53

Thanks for your advise. My son still wont try and wee unless he really needs to go which is a pain but ill keep trying. He still just says 'not yet' even when I say im going as well...maybe up the bribes;)? He hasn't pooed for 2 days so i'm real nervous about leaving the house today..could be interesting! Hope you are all having success today;)x

My daughter didn't have much potty success in nursery, I'm feeling like a bad mummy for sending her. Boo

wheresthel1ght · 29/03/2016 18:59

Cotton don't feel bad! My dd has been hit and miss today, she did try and tell me that she needed a poop but I was right in the middle of something and wasn't really paying attention so she did it in her knickers and was then really upset about it so i definitely beat you to the bad mummy award Grin

Jelly he will get it eventually! Dd has told me no every time I have asked her today but has wee'd when sat on the loo/potty

And as for the bottle thing, bloody genius!!!

jellybean321 · 29/03/2016 22:12

Ta for that wheresthel1ight. Heres to more success tom x

Day 5 and still not great so hoping day 6 goes better!

Was out with friends who started potty training their dd last Thursday and she has been dry for 3 days hate them but she also barely drinks anything so think it's more luck than judgement!

CottonSock · 30/03/2016 20:31

Not good here, I think she has cystitis. High temperature and saying it hurts to wee. Poor thing, will go to Dr tomorrow. This is tough!

wheresthel1ght · 30/03/2016 20:57

Oh god cotton the poor little love! Hope she is ok!! Keep us posted and have some WineWine

Dd has had a better day today. Only 1 accident and I suspect that was more cos she was out with dp, fil and dscs. Dp seemed to be insistent on taking her to the toilet rather than whipping her undies down and sitting her on the potty wherever they were. Some men are such pansies at times!

She did have an absolute meltdown about 430 and screamed the house down wanting her nappy on. I think she is finding it all a bit stressful. So we took her out for tea and to buy some playsand for her sandpit table to try and distract her.

This is bloody hard work! My friends who told me girls were easy were bloody liars. It's days like this I wish I drank alcohol Confused

CottonSock · 30/03/2016 22:01

Wine... I wish, I'm 6m pregnant :)
Yes, No wonder she seems to have lost all bladder control. Hopefully we get it sorted quickly and crossing fingers for an appointment tomorrow morning and a wee sample to take with me!

wheresthel1ght · 30/03/2016 22:31

In which case can I offer you BrewThanksCakeChocolate

Poor little thing she must be feeling absolutely rotten. Fingers crossed they can get her sorted quickly.

For what it's worth a lady I work with was told to drink lemon barley water as it is meant to help ease the pain from cystitis and the one time I had it my GP recommended anything with cranberry juice. The pre stuff will probably make her sick but ocean spray do a long life juice that is cranberry and raspberry which might be worth a try if you have someone who can nip to your nearest 24hr supermarket?

jellybean321 · 31/03/2016 07:25

Aw hope she feels better soon. That wont help with the potty training poor thing. We had quite a good day but my littld one is on movical so its messing with his bowel control...going to have to get some medical advise as it dosent seem to allow him anytime once he needs a poo....dreading that when out and about!

wheresthel1ght · 31/03/2016 07:59

Oh god jelly that must be a nightmare! Is it something you give him at the same time every day and does it then cause a movement at a predictable interval? If so could you maybe use something like a huggies pull up?

wheresthel1ght · 31/03/2016 20:46

Cotton how is your dd today? Did you manage to get a docs appt?

Well the good news is dd had NO ACCIDENTS TODAY!!!! and she asked to use the potty cos she needed a poo StarStar I didn't risk the soft play centre in knickers as I was on my own so she had her bambino mio training pants on but continued with the 15 min time checks and she was still dry when we got home

CottonSock · 01/04/2016 13:09

We did get an appointment and by some luck a wee in travel potty 1 min before appointment. Dip stick was clear though, it's gone to lab but I think she's ok at the moment and not complaining of pain. Still high temperature on and off but guess it might be unrelated.
She's been dry for 6 hours now since wake up, no wees, but holding it in. This cannot be healthy!
About to try ice pop. She hardly drinks anything.

Yesterday she was dry in morning, but afternoon a bit of a nightmare.
Me on phone and her shouting about poo on floor, don't tread on it mummy was amusing for lady other end...

wheresthel1ght · 01/04/2016 14:18

Haha bless her! I had a guy from work call me yesterday (I am on holiday so not happy) but he was killing himself laughing at the shouts of "mummy I done a huuuuuuggggggeeeee wee on the potty".

Am glad your dd seems better. Hopefully it is just a bit of a virus and will pass quickly!

Dd has managed to do a wee when no one else was in the vicinity. I had nipped for a wee, left her without anything on her bum and just the potty on the floor and she had sat on it and done her wee. Lots of cheers and hugs. Dp not happy as was sleeping after epic nights hit opps

She seems to have cracked it at home but out and about is still an issue

jellybean321 · 01/04/2016 22:40

Great news in the house whetesthel1ght hopefully she will crack it outdoors soon. We had a good day with only one accident today and we were out an about a lot but god his mood has changed since starting potty training.. Whingy clingy and just bloody defiant today. I was glad when he had gone to bed.let's hope tom a better day fingers crossed!

Jelly snap! I was gonna post on here tonight to ask if anyone else's toddler had turned into a limpet since potty training started! Dd is quite independent so this is really hard! She will normally play on her own for an hour or more, she adores her play kitchen and her dolls house which has horses in the beds and they have parties on the stairs but this week she has whinged and moaned if I so much as leave the room. She is also refusing to walk and wants to be carried all the time. Mind I think the concentration must be tiring her out because she is asking to have her head on my shoulder a lot which is her default comfort position when she is tired/feeling insecure.

My hv called today so am wondering if I should ask her advice at continuing or giving it a few weeks and trying again. She has been really unsettled this week and am wondering if she just isn't ready yet

CottonSock · 02/04/2016 17:40

Very similar behaviour here. I think it's very tiring (and for me)
