What has come out of my vagina?!

Emsy9898 · 16/06/2024 23:33

I'm posting a picture, I've been having burning pressure pain whilst weeing after birth, but just stood up and coughed and this has come out of my vagina. It hurts a bit but isn't too painful but this is quite large and I'm worried! I'm 5 weeks post partum, natural delivery

I may go to the walk in centre, but my baby is EBF and my partner would struggle with her as she's feeding every hour atm

A decidual cast or piece of placenta? Did you bleed?

fairymary87 · 16/06/2024 23:35

Possibly placenta? Girl call the maternity unit as if it is could be dangerous, take baby with you. I had to when my stitches burst open and was nursing constantly there.

Haggisfish3 · 16/06/2024 23:35

I would go to walk in and take baby with you. Or phone maternity ward tbh.

TheShellBeach · 16/06/2024 23:36

Are you bleeding?

Zonder · 16/06/2024 23:38

Can you call the maternity ward?

endofthelinefinally · 16/06/2024 23:39

It looks like placenta. You do need to be checked for infection and to see if there is any left in there.

Emsy9898 · 16/06/2024 23:40

Hi thanks for everyone's replies. I called maternity unit and they won't seem me as I'm more then 28 days pp. My bleeding has been slowing down recently and only get a small amount throughout the day but it was stringy blood with this thing that I passed.

Maybe worth an A&E trip, you don't know what else if left in there, and you don't want to risk infection. X

Agreed, that's quite a substantial piece of tissue.

Emsy9898 · 16/06/2024 23:46

I have gone to my walk in centre but thinking I may have to go home and come back tomorrow as my baby is combi feeding but struggled with a bottle and partners just messaged to say she hasn't stopped screaming and he's struggling. Don't want to bring her here as riddled with bugs 😭

I'm 8 weeks post delivery and they said anything bigger than a 50p coin warrants an immediate visit to maternity assessment centre!

endofthelinefinally · 16/06/2024 23:47

Can you do an e-consult with your GP and post that photo? That is very poor from your maternity unit, given that it is their responsibility to check your placenta, ensure there aren't any bits missing and record this fact in your records. At the very least they should make sure that you know how and where to get further help.

They won't see me apparently! I called them and they said they won't see me if I'm more then 28 days pp and have to go to the walk in centre sadly

Personally, I always have a belt and breeches approach to healthcare. Best to get it checked out rather than accepting that you're a certain number of days over postpartum and that it probably isn't anything etc. head along to A and E with baby provisions and breastfeed there and get it looked into.

endofthelinefinally · 16/06/2024 23:53

You should get your partner to come with you and bring your baby. You can register, he can stay with baby in the entrance area where it is less crowded, you can feed her if necessary. As long as you are not putting her down on dirty surfaces or handing her to other people to cough over her, it is better than leaving her to scream for ages or not getting medical attention yourself.

ProjectKettle · 16/06/2024 23:54

I had something similar to this at 10days post partum but it was also accompanied by some big gushes of bleeding. I went to triage, took it with me in a ziploc bag and had an internal scan. When the doctor looked at the tissue, it kind of opened up and was actually flat rather than solid. Is yours the same? They decided mine was not placenta itself but part of the membranes. Funnily enough, the midwife that inspected my placenta after the birth said it had an unusually large amount of membranes. They gave me some antibiotics and told me to come back if it happened again - which it never did. So you might need to some antibiotics as well? Not worth messing about with the risk of a womb infection.

Rtmhwales · 17/06/2024 00:07

Almost guaranteed it’s retained products of conception/placenta. I had a bunch of these come out nearly 3 months post delivery out of nowhere and none of my doctors were concerned. Was absolutely bizarre, felt like a bad period passing them but no complications whatsoever. If you have fever, bleeding or illness I’d go in right away.

mswhereami · 17/06/2024 00:10

I think you have a case of retained placenta. This happened to me and I passed very large blood clot.

Please do not ignore this, I let it go on too long and my blood count ended up plummeting and I needed a blood transfusion. Please speak to your health visitor or GP, get a blood test done and remember to continue taking folic acid even after birth to keep your blood count up.

Is this your first pregnancy?

Hi yes this is my first pregnancy. I am at a&e waiting to be seen but partner is really struggling with baby at home and really don't want her here with all the illnesses

Stay where you are, your partner will manage even if he takes baby for a walk or drive in the car.

He'll have to make do just like he would if you had an accident and a hospital stay which is what could happen if you get a infection. If baby really needs feeding get him to bring her to you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/06/2024 00:36

Stay where you are and let your dh bring the baby in if necessary and then he can take the baby out again. You must get seen and checked over.

Codlingmoths · 17/06/2024 00:38

If it’s retained placenta and you get an infection you will be in the hospital for days. It’s a poor decision to risk that to get baby now. Stay, and if baby needs feeding partner has to bring her. It’s pretty much a guarantee that tiny babies will need feeding before you get seen at a&e so don’t go home and think it will be better another day.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 17/06/2024 00:43

Stay until you get seen and if needs be have dh bring baby to you. Little one will be safely enclosed in pram / Car seat and you can breastfeed anywhere you like. If can be un nerving in the early days breastfeeding with milk flying everywhere but there is NOTHING wrong with feeding in public!!!! You are protected by law, hospital staff won't bat an eyelid, other patients are too concerned with their own ailments to worry about what you are doing. Dont forget breastfeeding helps with antibodies, try not to get too anxious over germs. My second baby was coughed all over by older toddler bringing all kinds home from nursery! Congratulations on your new baby and look after yourself.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2024 00:45

If your partner cannot cope then he needs to bring the baby to you , hope you get seen quickly .

RoyKentwhistle · 17/06/2024 01:13

I had the same happen to me a few weeks after my son was born by c-section
I passed this thing like an orange size. If I remember rightly I didn't do anything afterwards.
