What has come out of my vagina?!

Emsy9898 · 16/06/2024 23:33

I'm posting a picture, I've been having burning pressure pain whilst weeing after birth, but just stood up and coughed and this has come out of my vagina. It hurts a bit but isn't too painful but this is quite large and I'm worried! I'm 5 weeks post partum, natural delivery

I may go to the walk in centre, but my baby is EBF and my partner would struggle with her as she's feeding every hour atm

I hope you are ok op.

I had something very similar fall out about a week after my first born by section, it was smooth on one side and tucked in on itself uniformly on the other, same colour and like a golf ball with the neat side flat. I didn't do anything i remeber thinking it could have been a gauze or pad thry left inside by mistake but I had a temperature not long after and it took a week to go, I was lucky I think but I've always wondered what it exactly was.

Make sure you get seen and not fobbed off, I can't believe the unit won't see you because of such a daft rule.

twoandcooplease · 17/06/2024 03:12

Stay where you are you've done the right thing going in soon. I also think it's been retained product

I hope you're OK. In future, baby of this young age could come too with partner but just pop in for feeds then go back to the pram/ walk round by the car etc if too full and germy.

Robin198 · 17/06/2024 06:14

Please stay ar A&E to be fully checked. I had a womb infection post partum which resulted in sepsis and me being very, very unwell.

I understand your concerns about your baby but in all honestly, your partner will cope. The reality with infection and possibly sepsis is much worse.

AffableApple · 17/06/2024 07:19

Stay in A&E. But let your baby in to see you for a feed. You don't want mastitis.

fairymary87 · 17/06/2024 08:41

Hope you're ok OP have you been seen? Xx

HcbSS · 17/06/2024 08:44

Stop making excuses OP. If you have retained tissue you can get sepsis and in the worst case die. Then your baby and partner will struggle for sure.
Sorry to be harsh but you need to be seen and that is more important than BF and your partner being unable to cope.

ViaRia01 · 17/06/2024 08:47

You need to be in a&e and your baby relies on you for feeding at present. You must bring baby with you, a&e is not riddled with bugs. I understand a&e isn’t the most pleasant environment at times for a newborn but you need to prioritise here. Your health and baby’s feeding are the priorities, it is that simple I promise.

Emsy9898 · 17/06/2024 09:29

Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement.
I was there for just over 3 hours, the doctor thinks it could either be a bad clot that maybe got infected, or potentially retained placenta. They were ridiculously short staffed and didn't have anyone that could supervise a speculum test so they want me to come back today to do it

Other option is to ring maternity ward and ask to speak to the most senior midwife on duty. Tell them you believe you have retained palenta and want to be seen. If they say no, ask for their name and say you will be making a formal complaint. I know it feels very pushy but unfortunatley this is what you need to do to get healthcare these days.

Agree with this your care is negligent and they need to be made aware

After 28 days women are no longer the responsibility of maternity services.

I don't mean that the OP shouldn't seek medical advice, just that the midwives are not the right people to approach for care.

Skybluepinky · 17/06/2024 09:50

Go to A&E.

This is true but so rubbish. Post natal care should come under maternity for two years. With access to all the specialists who know what pregnancy does to us.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2024 10:40

Hope you get it sorted out today @Emsy9898

Emsy9898 · 17/06/2024 10:52

Thank you everyone, back here now just waiting. Brought baby girl with me so been given a room luckily. Will update when I find out what this mystery thing is! They're saying I've got low blood pressure 94/67

Women do have access to this though.
Gynaecologists/Obstetricians are responsible for women's reproductive health.

Midwives just deal with childbirth.

If women present in A and E they'll be seen by the on-call gynae team.

OP your GP can deal with this. If you're not actively bleeding and have no signs of infection, you don't need any treatment. You've passed some retained products of conception. That's not unusual in itself.

Glad you're being looked after.

jolenethea · 17/06/2024 12:41

Hope they see you quickly

Luckymum20 · 17/06/2024 12:42

PLEASE PLEASE make sure you follow this up. I had "retained pregnancy matter" after the birth of my second child... it went undetected and caused me problems for years afterwards! I am sure that will not be the case for you, but you need checking out. Ask for a scan and if needs be an internal. The baby may be crying etc. but this is way more importatant.

caringcarer · 17/06/2024 13:46

It's after birth.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2024 14:48

How are you getting on @Emsy9898 ?

yumyumyumy · 17/06/2024 15:06

Hope you've been seen now!
