Can I go one night without a shower after c section?

How long do I have to shower every single day? I’m a every other day person.

Had my c section 4 weeks ago and I’m feeling really sick tonight and I don’t want to have to stand in the shower feeling so rough I just want to go to bed.

Should I just grin and bare it and shower or go to sleep? I don’t want to get an infection

You will be fine don't worry about it.

Drum2018 · 31/01/2020 22:50

You don't have to shower every day. Have a quick wash with a facecloth if needs be. You can clean your scar if it still sore but it should be well on its way to being healed by now. Go to bed and get some sleep.

Is this a thing?

I didn’t shower every day - I made sure my wound was clean every day (get wound wipes from
Boots) but that was it.

Why do you think you should have a shower everyday? Go to bed and have one in the morning or have a nice soak in the bath. Hope you feel better soon.

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/01/2020 22:53

Didn't even realise this was a 'thing'.

I was so poorly after my section that I couldn't shower for the first 6 days. Wound was fine!

YicketyYackMamasBack · 31/01/2020 22:57

Oh I was told to shower everyday but just let water run over my incision.

You will be fine. More important to get a good night's sleep. Hope you feel better tomorrow

This must be a new thing. I was in ICU and didn't shower for 5 days.

Did they say you have to have
a shower daily or more 'when you have a shower let the water go over your incision?'

eurochick · 31/01/2020 23:10

It sounds like they were saying it's ok to shower every day, not that you have to.

YicketyYackMamasBack · 31/01/2020 23:16

Could well be just the way I asked as I’m so paranoid about getting infections so perhaps they told me everyday with the assumption I shower daily anyhow.

Good to know I don’t have to though as my hair is definitely feeling the pain of daily washing!

I'm 10 weeks post section. You don't have to shower every day.

TrixieFranklin · 31/01/2020 23:18

Christ no, I had a very quick shower the night of my section and then just a flannel wash for the next 4/5 days and then a lovely warm bath.

YicketyYackMamasBack · 31/01/2020 23:49

I can’t believe I’ve spent the last 4 weeks struggling to get my legs over the bath into he shower, hobbling around trying to dry my incision really well then spending 20 minutes drying my hair when I could be sleeping 🙃

I did shower every day but was also very poorly which resulted in me fainting in the bathroom. I figure that’s probably worse for the stitches than not showering!

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 01/02/2020 04:56

Interesting how advice varies. I was told no baths for 6 weeks.

HoppingPavlova · 01/02/2020 05:03

Think about people in ICU. Do you think they shower? Have to be longer term to even get a bit of a sponge. Let alone cleaning teethSmile. I always think of these scenarios when I cbf.

BlueWonder · 01/02/2020 05:09

Aside from the CS recovery etc (and hope you are feeling better OP), I thought all adults showered every day anyway. No need to wash hair, unless you want to. On the days you don't, just use a shower cap.

LolaSmiles · 01/02/2020 05:18

Showering every day after a C section? Absolutely not! I couldn't entertain the idea.

MooseBeTimeForSummer I was also told no baths for 6 weeks.

MsChatterbox · 01/02/2020 06:25

I wasn't given any care information after c section apart from no baths. So I never cleaned wound. Didn't even know what it looked like. Obviously I should have looked this up myself but I was too tired to even think of that as a thing. My point is I did nothing special and my wound healed very quickly. So I think you will be fine!

eurochick · 01/02/2020 06:25

I'm surprised that people don't want to shower everyday though. I was leaking milk and lochia and had never felt more in need of a daily shower!

babynunber3 · 01/02/2020 07:57

Just to slightly change to
He subject poster, if your struggling to lift your legs over bath at 4 weeks post section and I know you mention you feeling sick etc do you have a temp? As to me sonething doesn't seem right here, 4 weeks post section your scar from external should be knitted together and totally healed (mine was at day 4 never mind week 4) and you should t be having pain other than odd twinges now you mention not feeling welll , just something to keep your eye on
Hope all ok x

YicketyYackMamasBack · 01/02/2020 08:20

@babynunber3 I’m ok now, for the first 2 weeks it was very sore. It’s more because I’m such a wuss and the thought of my incision makes me feel ill. I can’t look at it or touch it. I hate the fact I was cut open.

As for feeling sick, it came on after I’d had the chilli I made for tea.. which I put too much oil in so I think it was that. Feeling better this morning. Thanks for being concerned 🤓

Use a shower cap-hair doesn’t need washing daily.

LolaSmiles · 01/02/2020 08:36

eurochick
It wasn't a case of didn't want to shower and more a case of being in too much pain to shower. It was possible to still wash the required areas just about and DH was on hand to help with showers once home.

It took me around a fortnight to be able to shower independently after my section.
