Can I go one night without a shower after c section?

How long do I have to shower every single day? I’m a every other day person.

Had my c section 4 weeks ago and I’m feeling really sick tonight and I don’t want to have to stand in the shower feeling so rough I just want to go to bed.

Should I just grin and bare it and shower or go to sleep? I don’t want to get an infection

You might find that by taking a look at your scar, you are pleasantly surprised. It will be much smaller than you think. A c-section, particularly an emergency, can take some digesting and I found confronting my scar helpful. Also wound wipes, how I wish I knew about them! I used saline and cotton wool to clean the scar on non-shower days.

Congratulations on your new baby!

You don't have to wash your hair every time you shower. Just tie it up or use a shower cap.

Personally a shower cap in a hot shower makes my head sweat and makes my hair greasy, completely missing it's purpose so I wouldn't bother.
Happy to learn about wound wipes my section is next week.

It wasn’t an emergency section thank god, but not exactly an elective. Planned because she had to come out due to being too small and my placenta not working properly. But I knew it was happening and had it booked for a week or so.

I suffer with anxiety and always have and I never would have chosen to have a c section as it’s such a major operation and I knew it would just make me worry all the time, which is has. I’m better than when I first came home. But I still don’t like being on my own when DP goes to work, I’m worried my wound will open or it will get infected.. which I thought it was so went to the doctors, she wasn’t that concerned and just have me topical antibiotics to put on it. Which I do from a distance. In a dimly light room with a cotton bud because I don’t want to look at it in all its glory.

I'm 5 weeks post section and after I showered post section at the hospital I didn't shower again until 2 days later and then it's been every few days and everything's fine. I didn't even clean my wound and it's healed nicely. I think it's more important to rest and let the wound heal so that's what I did, don't worry x

Much sympathy, OP. I'm glad you're feeling better and are reassured about the showering not being essential daily. You've been throughn a lot; treat yourself kindly.

Honestly if you can manage to look at it then do, or get DH to take a photo - I thought it would be really gory but only one day after it wasn't at all. Yours will probably be fine

I looked at it properly tonight. I was surprised, possibly even pleasantly surprised.

I imagined it still being stitched up and seeing the cut in the skin, but it’s sealed closed which surprised me. It’s just a purple red line with a couple stitches left in it.

Still can’t touch it.. baby steps.

Well done for looking at it. Its scary when you're not used to seeing a scar. It will fade in time. I've had 4 sections with the incision at the same site each time. My belly was enormous on my first baby so I have a bit of an overhanging belly now which will never ever be flat. So I can't see my scar without pulling that up Grin I assume you had dissolvable stitches if there's still a couple there. I imagine if you gently scrape at the ones left they will just come away, bit like a soggy scab. But no problem if you rather leave them to come away themselves. A good tip to dry the area if you don't like to touch it is the low setting on your hairdryer.

Wow, that's amazing that you were able to look - I know it wasn't easy. I'm glad it was better than expected
