Numbness after c section

II had twins via EMCS 8 and a half weeks ago, and since then I have had numb skin above my scar.

The scar itself still has sensation, but a 2 inch strip of skin running above the scar has absolutely no feeling whatsoever and it really bothers me- I hate the feeling (or lack of!).
Midwife just shrugged it off and said feeling should come back at some point.

I was wondering about other people's experiences with it. Did you have numb skin after your c section? How long did it take for you to get feeling back, if at all?

I’m 11 years post my last (of two) sections and I still have this numbness.

Celebelly · 06/12/2019 19:13

I'm 9mo PP and still have numbness. I've got used to it now!

11 years for me and still numb

massistar · 06/12/2019 19:14

Sorry OP. I'm 14 years past c section and still have this, you get used to it.

divafever99 · 06/12/2019 19:16

Still numb 2 sections and 9 years later, and sometimes itchy too. You get used to it!

YouJustDoYou · 06/12/2019 19:19

7 years for me and still have numbness.

CantspellWontspell · 06/12/2019 19:19

4 c-sections, 7 years since the last one and it's still numb. I dont expect it to change. It's weird but you get used to it

pooopypants · 06/12/2019 19:22

Not section but I have scars where I still have numbness. I also have some that aren't numb at all, I think it varies and depends what nerves have been cut. I believe that this is incredibly common due to the length of the scar though.

HappyGirl86 · 06/12/2019 19:24

I got most feeling back within 2 years. I was surprised it came back. My GP did say it's totally normal to never get that feeling back.
I'm having another c section in May, I guess this time I might not be lucky.
You do get used to the numb sensation though!

scubaprincess · 06/12/2019 19:25

4 years for me and I'm still numb! It doesn't bother me now but it was slightly annoying at first.

rottiemum88 · 06/12/2019 19:31

I'm nearly 11 months post section and have had complete return of feeling since about 6/7 months

nildesparandum · 06/12/2019 19:32

I am sorry to say but the last of my two sections was 47 years ago and I still experience this, numb and gets itchy often.
I have the longitudinal or classical scar and the numbness is on both sides but the itching on the scar itself sometimes drives me potty.

I had physio for ab separation and the practitioner was really great, she showed me how to massage the scar and the area around it to make it less tense and help numbness; circular motions, pressing properly and massaging out where I feel ‘a knot’.
I’m 6mo postpartum and sensation has almost fully returned. I massage every morning, with Bio Oil for the scar.

The inside cuts are above the skin scar btw, that’s why it feels odd there.
Also the right side tends to hurt/numb more as that’s the direction the surgeon does the sewing and end knots... sorry if I’m too graphic. Xmas Smile

Section 18 months ago and numbness went away around the 12 month mark

PortNStilton · 06/12/2019 20:33

Yes, you do get used to it! I hated it at first, but now it’s just part of me. I get occasional itchiness 11 years later, too. And weirdly, if I’m about to come down with something - cold, flu, any kind of infection - my scare tissue aches. It’s become a sign that I’m about to get ill!

PortNStilton · 06/12/2019 20:34

scar Grin

wishingyouluck · 06/12/2019 20:45

I thought mine would be numb forever, but I'd say it went away after around 12-18 months. It's such a weird sensation isn't it!

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/12/2019 20:58

Took two years to go away. I absolutely hated it.

IrregularCommentary · 06/12/2019 21:00

Very small area above the scar is still numb 3yrs later, but had most feeling back after a couple of years.

mamansnet · 06/12/2019 21:01

What do you know, the feeling's come back!

3 years post section

danni0509 · 06/12/2019 21:11

6 years here and still numb.

skankingpiglet · 06/12/2019 21:15

It came back around 12m after the first cs. My second cs was 3.5yrs ago and it hasn't improved at all. I'm not holding out any hope to be honest. It also weirds me out, so I tend to avoid rubbing it if possible.

CoastalWave · 06/12/2019 21:16

Sorry - I'm also 6 years post c section and completely numb - quite a large part numb too not just a little strip! Basically the whole of my stomach part below the belly button. Hate it.(it was a bad section experience tho!)

LemonadePockets · 06/12/2019 21:18

Nearly 4 years and still numb!

zippyswife · 06/12/2019 21:22

8 years and still numb. It’s the overhand that’s gets to me though 😭
