Hi,

I am EBF my 4.5m old and wondering when my period will come back.

Did you period come back before or after you stopped breastfeeding? If after, how long after you stopped breastfeeding was it?

Thanks!

Nine months with DD1 and fifteen months with dd2. Both times coincided with dropping night feeds.

Disneydilemma · 01/11/2018 12:08

About 9 months both times. (First time stopped at 6 months, second time stopped at 11 months)
Was one of my big motivations to carry on breastfeeding!

10 months. Am still feeding DS at 15 months and my cycle is a little bit irregular but I'm definitely ovulating (which is a relief as I'm nearing the end of an IVF cycle to make a sibling!).

11 months here, I don't think it coincided with any significant change though

Somewhere in the region of 14 - 15 months with both breastfed babies.

Both babies were still breastfeeding on demand when my periods returned but we were obviously well started on weaning and solid foods by then.

8 months or thereabouts.

Spanglyprincess1 · 01/11/2018 12:18

8 sodding weeks post baby ...I was most unimpressed. Still regular as before baby but my pain are much less bad now, which is something at least!!

Hazandduck · 01/11/2018 12:23

Still waiting for mine...DD is 1 in 2 weeks! She’s slept through since about 6 weeks old but period still nowhere to be found! I kind of just want it over with, I’ve heard so many stories of how bad it is I just want it out of the way now! We also want to TTC in the next few months so would be handy to have a cycle again. Judging by this thread it varies widely for every woman!

LiDLrichardsPistachioSack · 01/11/2018 12:28

1st child, 28 months! I thought something was wrong with me. We were feeding 1-3 times a day at that point, I had night weaned her ages before that.
2nd child is 16 months and we still bf 3-5 times a day, and no night feeds. Still waiting! I actually miss my period, weirdly.

NanooCov · 01/11/2018 13:14

Fed DS1 to 2 yrs 3 months (stopping when pregnant with DS2 due to aversion). Period returned at 9 months. Still feeding a lot through night at that point.

Still feeding DS2 (1 year) and period came back at 6 months. No reduction in night feeds at all. He's a grazer.

@HavelockVetinari that's the reason I ask! I want to do a FET next year. So you've continued BF through IVF? I wasn't sure if I'd need to stop first

@ALS yes, it's fine. You'll get unscrupulous clinics who tell you that you MUST stop because the drugs are toxic or somesuch bollocks, but really it's because no-one's researched the effects of BF on success rates and they don't want to risk messing up their percentages. I'm consultant-led at Guys (Mr Khalaf) and he thinks one or two feeds a day should have little impact if any on success rates and is happy for me to carry on. I'm doing a fresh cycle of ICSI, currently have 6 embryos on day 2!
