Three months and counting, everyone! Our babies are gradually getting the hang of the world...and we are gradually getting the hang of them...

I've just spent the last 2 hours with DS crying and screaming due to trapped wind / constipation. He finally fell asleep in my arms. He is now in his cot, let's hope he sleeps for a few hours...

This time last year, I already knew I was pregnant (I have know since the 1st June). I was checking for blood every time I was going to the loo... Now my LO will be 5 months tomorrow!

DH is out and as DS seems to be asleep I'm treating myself to a vodka & tonic (far too much vodka in the glass but no more tonic )

ClimberChick · 03/07/2010 19:12

GF

DH told me that he nearly brought me some malibu, but didn't. Well I'd rather not known.

thanks for the pic comments and I never meant to post so many pics (I was deciding which one to go for and meant to delete the others). Now I come across as a in your face mother.

I've still not got to grips with the fact that I'm a motlher now. When I'm not with her, its jsut life carrying on as normal. Although I've got so used to the attentions when we're out and about that I miss it when I'm on my own .

Been looking at fitness classes around here, qutie expensive it seems. Though am also relucant, after the not eating enough and low weight gain scenario. But I really want my body back (maybe keeps the boobs). Does anyone find they look in the mirror and sometimes not recongise the person there. I always said 9months on, 9 months off but I'm a hyprocite.

GuernseyFrench · 03/07/2010 20:13

CC I'm not BF but for the fitness/weight loss what I do is lots of walking and carrying DS around (15lb help the muscle in my arms!). I also haven't snacked that much but now that i'm back to work and bored, the snacking is very tempting I have lost all my pregnancy weight and start to loss the pre-pregnancy one (1 stones over weight) but what I actually need is to tone up my belly!

DS woke up again in scream with a lot of farts coming out! I manage to get him back to sleep... to be followed...

bearcrumble · 03/07/2010 20:28

Hi All,

BG Aww, how sweet. What a gorgeous grin.

Chinook Nice news about the cleaner. I'm so sorry you went through the pain and heartache of two miscarriages, but how wonderful that you now have two lovely children. (Also BG - I'm sorry to hear you went through so much).

Stoof What a relief that you have the temp contract. Good luck with the interview as well of course.

DrCC Well done on the expressing. I'm sorry that DD is not appreciating the new bedtime routine, but I'm sure she'll get used to it and enjoy it very soon. Yes re dog - teething, especially when he makes a "gnangnang" kind of growly noise while chewing/drooling.

Very cute pictures. She is a love.

IC Glad you and Rosie had a better night. Hope the Gay Pride wasn't washed out.

GF Sorry to hear you had a bad night, and sorry to hear about the screaming/constipation. Poor little fellow. I reckon you deserve that drink.

This time last year was two days after embryo transfer so I didn't know I was pregnant. I tested on the 7th July and got a faint second line.

Sleep was a little better last night, but I am turning in soon (it's quarter past 8 now) - DS has been asleep next to me for about 20 mins, he went off well but he got a bit overstimulated and grumpy towards the end of the day because we've been out since 2.30 and only got back just before 7. We went to a barbecue with some friends locally, our friend's little boy Luca is nearly 6 and he was very sweet with DS. He was stroking his face and DS was cooing at him - which made Luca and I laugh and our laughter set DS off howling. I felt awful.

Another thing that has made me feel awful is (I almost don't want to admit this because you'll all think I am a terrible mother) ...oh dear - well, DS has little blisters on each little toe where he was bouncing in his door bouncer and the toes were hitting the floorboards. We don't leave him in it for long periods of time or anything (not more than 20 mins twice a day) - I only noticed it today and I couldn't work out what had caused it and then I thought... oh God, it's the door bouncer. Very

CC You asked about weight. I'm sure you look great - you are very fit after all. I'm about 3 kilos heavier than pre-pregnancy weight and I'm not really that bothered. I don't watch what I eat but I do do a lot of walking - I'm out with the pram every day to one of our local parks. Obviously tummy is a little bit looser, but I just wear floatier dresses and no one notices (I hope!)

Ah... DS has just farted three times and woken up so I'd better go.

sunangel88 · 03/07/2010 23:02

CC I think you can - check the price of jumperoo in Amazon and 2nd hand on ebay

You could make a killing

Going back to work in Aug but still BF-ing DD to sleep for naps and night time, so we're expecting some stressful transitions come Aug when DH will be taking over for nap-time at least. Am in 2 minds about whether to start off with going back 5 days straight or to transition more slowly by going back 1 day then 2 days etc. Would love to know what's been your experience? With 1st option I guess DD would get upset initially but would get used to the new order quickly, but with 2nd option I suspect my boobs won't hurt so much as planning to keep on BF-ing morning and night but not during the day.

BG your weaning pic has been an inspiration!

sunangel88 · 03/07/2010 23:13

BC don't be, thanks for telling us about the blisters, I was thinking of removing the cushions that we have at the bottom to help her feet reach the ground. But I think will keep some thin ones there now. That's how we learn what to do and not to do - from info on this forum.

sunangel88 · 03/07/2010 23:26

CC on the weight, just keep on BF-ing (or expressing!), you need 500 extra calories each day so the weight should just drop off - painless liposuction. Am about 2 kg heavier than pre-preg weight and have to eat more than DH each day to maintain that. An idea - instead of taking lifts up each day at work just run up the stairs, I did that when doing postdoc and was at my lowest weight ever - was on the 4th floor. Been trying to do that at work pre-preg but not as effective for just 1 flight of stairs.

sunangel88 · 03/07/2010 23:35

Oh and am looking forward to being a cougar perhaps sometime in the future. at the moment am content to just be a virtual one DH shakes his head in exasperation each time I ogle some muscular young man (e.g. in the film 300)

ClimberChick · 04/07/2010 01:18

I'm still 7kg over pre-pregnancy weight . Stubbornly at 62kg since when LO was about 4 weeks. As for stairs, well lab and office are both on ground floor and getting a bus to work as its 13miles away. Maybe get a house closer and then I can bike. Was thinking of doing some stuff at lunch, but feel bad for taking time out in order to express.

Just wondering what peoples cycles are during the day now. We're still on wake, feed, play, sleep. Guess just wondering if people sometimes feed twice in one cycle as the start to be awake longer and drop naps.

Its a bank hol here on Monday, so my back to work has been a 2 day week, followed by a four day week, which I think is quite nice. Think if I'd gone back on a monday, I'd be shafted let alone LO. You'll need to express a bit just to relieve the pressure i'd have thought, unless you transition onto bottles before hand to let your breasts adjust.

I was lying - I've just gone and weighed myself - I'm still 4kg over (57 before, 61 now). At least one kilo of it must be boobage though...

Cycles: My little boy usually feeds then sleeps then plays but yes he often feeds more than once in a waking session. I like it best if he has two long naps a day but more often than not he still has lots of little ones. I should keep a note really to look for a pattern but I'm not that organised. All I know is that I start to get him ready for bed around 6 - 6.30 and on a good night he goes straight to sleep and on a bad night we're talking 9pm.

sunangel I am terrible for looking at young men! At least it's only looking.

Thanks for kind comment re blisters. Still kicking myself a bit.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 04/07/2010 19:09

I'm 40 this year and my DH is a toy boy, so I guess that makes me a cougar...

No plans to come out to the States anytime soon, CC, your LO should be quite safe!

Not sure how much I weigh, either now or before I got pg. I stopped weighing myself years ago and am clueless about how heavy I am. I usually go by the tightness or otherwise of my clothes and the mirror as to whether I need to lose weight. I'm a bit rounder of belly and bum post-baby, but not enough to panic. BF plus DD's preferred entertainment is going for a walk (and all the bouncing when feeding) will help. The big bar of chocolate habit, on the other hand, definitely will not.

Wake, feed, play, feed, sleep is DD's pattern. I could probably cut out one of those feeds, it's a habit I got into when DD was so distractable she would only feed when sleepy - in fact, she still is quite prone to getting distracted, so I'll probably carry on with the pre and post sleep feeds for now. I guess it traps me a bit into certain sleep associations, but as a SAHM with no plans to change the care anytime soon, I guess it doesn't really matter. I am trying to put DD down not quite asleep at bedtime, though. She usually needs a quick bit of dummy to help her settle, but now spits it out after a few minutes.

Last night was a bit rubbish in some respects (insomnia, catarrh, one long resettle after a necessary nappy change early this morning) but could have been worse.

Hope the wind clears up soon, GF

bearcrumblehonestly don't worry about the blisters. If it helps I managed to draw blood when I cut ds's finger nail last week. I had been using using some baby emery boards I found in Boots, but you were all saying on here you used nail clippers. I thought to myself, I am supposedly an experienced mum, I can use those too, but clearly not. Back to the emery boards for me.

I am a couple of kgs over pre-preg weight, and seem to have levelled out at this weight. But I have to say if I weighed 61/62 kgs like you DrCC and bc I would be absolutely delighted. Please make me feel better and admit to being little! I am fairly tall. I have just purchased that '30 day shred' dvd wich is always mentioned on mumsnet. It is apparently only 20 mins a day but it is so intense you are left in a soaking crumpled heap on the floor at the end. I will report back if I have any success toning up with it.

Think ds is on the verge of his first cold. It breaks my heart to see him coughing and spluttering but smiling bravely little a little trouper. Night wakings had improved a bit but I suspect tonight will not be a good one. Wish me luck....

sunangel88 · 04/07/2010 21:24

DD's pattern is wake, play, feed, sleep. I try to feed her when she first wakes but she'll only accept it sometimes. No idea how we fell into this pattern - I'd been trying desperately to avoid it but somehow ended up in it when DD's weight started dropping. Suspect DD wanted it all along and trained me into it last month by refusing to feed unless she's sleepy and refusing to be rocked to sleep. Before that it was much better with wake, feed, play, sleep - with the exception of bedtime. On the plus side after falling below 9th percentile, she's now started to pass 9th percentile last month and increase after we got into her preferred pattern.

Gave DD a large chunk of banana yesterday which she gummed her way through. Am absolutely amazed she managed it as was only the 3rd day of solids and previously we'd only given her a little baby rice, then roughly mashed carrots that DH had undercooked - made her throw up a little when she gagged. But the banana! She gnawed off rather large pieces and chewed at them. Then it all came out today in a rather stinky firm-ish poo which was a bit of a shock after all the custardy breast milk poo. She had some organic blueberries today so looking forward to the nappy contents tomorrow

at IC having a young DH....

sunangel88 · 04/07/2010 22:51

Just came across this rather interesting link on introduction of wheat/oats etc before 6 months
thought I'd share it

As requested - good luck chinook

InmaculadaConcepcion · 05/07/2010 10:06

Interesting, sunangel - perhaps I'll offer DD a little oat mush and see what she thinks... Porridge is my preferred breakfast, after all - it would be handy if she could get into it too!!

DD still a bit restless last night and woke quite early. I think she's a bit too hot, so we've got a wee fan especially for her little corner of the bed - the ceiling fan doesn't reach there very well. We'll see if it makes any difference!

Just like to add that my LO does not normally look so dramatic after her lunch...

mamaloco · 05/07/2010 12:48

Thanks sunangel, I was wondering what to give at breakfast as DD2 is going nuts in the mornings at the moment (feeding like a newborn). She seems more settled after her 1st meal of the day.
I still have 5 kg to loose, I am stucked at 69 kg since DD2 is 1 month. I am 5'8" so still in normal BMI, I shouldn't complain, but I just want to fit in my clothes again! Oh! and I live in a country were women just have a bump when they are pregnant (same as fellow french ). The worse is the fat on the inside of the tighs which rubs when you walk As IC said the choc doesn't help.
IC I am 41 and Dh is 3.5 years younger so not really a cougar although when we met I was staff in the research lab at university and he was a student a very mature student of course (otherwise I might have been sacked!)
good luck chinook
BG Beetroot is very brave to feed a baby, I wouldn't dare..

BabyGiraffes · 05/07/2010 13:11

at you and your toyboys!!

I have no weight to lose but my brain still has to recover... Apparently 'nappy brain' is a myth, but boy do I do daft things... Yesterday I absentmindedly passed a banana to the baby and only realised my mistake when the baby opened her mouth wide but didn't immediately grab hold of it, and I caught dd1's look of thunder (she'd asked for it).

Well, another Monday and I feel a bit to say that I am glad we are back to what I call normality, ie dh at work. Sometimes feels I have to look after 3 children at weekends.......

BabyGiraffes · 05/07/2010 18:57

Had a lovely meal just now which made all of us laugh. dd2 has her dinner at 5 and then joins the rest of us at 6 before her bedtime bottle at about 6.15 (depending how soon she gets fed up with watching us eat!). dd1 was up to mischief and kept offering a spoonful of her meal to dd2, who looked excited and opened her mouth wide, only for dd1 to eat it herself. She thought it was totally hilarious and nearly fell off her chair laughing... (I was just thinking, wait until the baby is older and gets her own back!!)
As for what dd2 does in the day... She wakes up between 7 and 7.45 and drowns an 8 oz bottle of milk. Then joins myself and dd1 for breakfast and has a little porridge herself. She then plays with us, has a little nap between 9 and 10, and has her lunch at 11, with some milk in a beaker (she refuses a bottle at that time). She then sleeps from 12ish to 2.30 and has a 7oz bottle at half 2. More playing and generally going along with whatever we do, before another short nap between 4 and 5. Then dinner at five with water from a beaker, followed by her bedtime bottle of 7oz at 6ish. She's then ready for bed by about 6.45, we read her favourite book and I sing to her, and she's usually fast asleep by 7. She then wakes up between 7 and 7.45 etc etc.... I guess I can't complain really.
Oh, another picture here (sorry, maybe I should start a blog) of LO trying to keep up with her big sister.... picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/f907FAG9cEnHE_mjBK6GIl6--UYtUOnWppx1qi9kdrM?feat=directlink... Can't roll but wants to stand, hop and walk...

BabyGiraffes · 05/07/2010 18:59

That should have read 'downs' not 'drowns'...

BabyGiraffes · 05/07/2010 20:27

at the seagulls who appear to have aimed specifically at my white towels drying outside on the line

GuernseyFrench · 05/07/2010 20:47

Oops BG For me it's night bugs which like crashing on DS nappies.

DS is much better, full of energy all day long and grumpy in the evening just before going to bed as he is very tired.

I need some advice from the weaning pros: when you give vegetable purees to your LO, do you give it warm?

I have some pureed carrots which was frozen and is now in the fridge. I think it should be warmed but worried I may serve it too hot.

watercress · 05/07/2010 20:55

Not a weaning pro but I give purees at room temperature. Mine also come out of the freezer in the morning, and I take them out of the fridge half an hour or so before feeding them. DD2 seems quite happy with that, but then I've never really heated her milk very much either (only a few seconds in the microwave - don't shout at me - to help the powder dissolve).

Loving all the pictures!

ClimberChick · 06/07/2010 06:44

Sorry, but a feel sorry for myself moan coming right up.

Seems LO's teething pain returned today. Did an awful lot of crying, where she was just inconsolable this evening. To top it off, I've come down with a cold so probably a matter of time before she gets it. Ran out of calpol this evening as well so we better get the pharmacy to buy the American equivalent pronto.

When I thought about teething before it never clicked that it would hurt them [duh]. So general advice on getting her to feed/deal with both incidents much appreciated.

On a positive note, the weight talk inspired me to do my first run on American soil so exercise holiday is now over.
