Three months and counting, everyone! Our babies are gradually getting the hang of the world...and we are gradually getting the hang of them...

Great news IC, any news bearcrumble

I go back to work full time tomorrow, feels like its not real. When I went into work to finish the PhD, I either took her into work (always lots of volunteers) or DH came in with me (as lots of holiday to use) and he took her for walks and just brang her for feeding. This time, only me.

The feeding has been going really well, in fact yesterday there was no crying during the feeds. Forgotten how lovely BF can be. Still convinced that once she's on bottles it will be difficult, thought of maybe cup feeding, but don't think DH could take the stress of learning something new. Will maybe do some research at the weekend.

As for cougars...... well I haven't seen any 40 plus women with THAT look in their eye. Think they're all down the road in LA. (Our living room is where the door to the porch is, ad obviously its open)

Sleep..... after a few nites of 1 and 5 wakings, last nite was back to 60-90mins. I guess since were now at 16 weeks, it will be one thing after the other affecting sleep. Were also experiencing clingy behaviour.

Oooo nice sling Mamaloco! Have you seen these tutorials for DIY slings? Takes a good few naptimes to get one sewn but well worth it.

Good luck with work DrCC.

Off to a teddybears picnic this morning so better get dressed now he's finished his feed

My dh heard the news of job cuts all round on the radio and was wondering aloud to himself what we would do, us and the three children, if he was made redundant... THREE children? Well, I know it can feel that way if they both want something , but THREE children? Freudian slip or what? Now I wonder if he's coming round to having just one more...

mamaloco sounds like we have similar children, only reversed in order. My dd1 would happily eat her food, the bowl, the table, and did a goldfish expression (mouth opening thing I mean) whenever she thought she saw food. dd2 is more interested in feeding herself and is pretty good at it (give or take the odd trying to put the spoon in her ear...) and she is a lot more distracted by watching dd1.

Still have some problems with dd1 being jealous, taking and hiding the baby toys (I've threatened to take her doll and hide it) and getting the odd swipe at the baby in (not hard enough to make the baby cry). yesterday I tried reverse psychology (or something) and told the baby (loud enough for dd1 to hear of course) that her big sister was going to be very good all day... It worked! Also managed to cook again last night by putting the baby in her bumbo on the work top to watch me (I know, I know, strictly forbidden but it's a corner where two work tops meet and I was standing right in front of her). It almost worked except that dd1 took the opportunity to run herself a paddling pool from the outside tap and then jump in it fully clothes - then complained she was wet . Cue 14th clothes change that day...
Come to think of it, maybe two is enough....

bearcrumble · 01/07/2010 10:12

Good luck at work DrCC - hope first day goes well.

GF How was Dr's appt?

IC I left a comment on the sports day entry.

DH's meeting went well - head of Euorpean operations really liked him and is now going back to Hamburg to discuss with his partner. Keeping fingers crossed.

Sleep not so good last night - Went down like a dream at 7 and slept til 11.30 but more waking/fidgeting and up for good at 5.45am (though napping on my lap now).

GuernseyFrench · 01/07/2010 11:26

BC The GP's appointment went okay. He is still wheezy but improving. We'll go back Friday week in order to have him checked (luckily that I took an health insurance for him as soon as he was born). Fingers crossed for your DH.

CC good luck for today. Everything will be fine, it's hard to leave them but she'll stay with her dad.

IC great news for her hearing.

You can see that I have time in my hands today it's actually odd to be home without DS, it's too quiet.

I need to start thinking of different purees for DS, I've got carrot to use so I'll mash them and see how DS reacts.

BabyGiraffes · 01/07/2010 12:56

bearcrumble keeping my fingers crossed!
GF Glad your LO is on the mend
CC good luck today - new job, new country -Wow- hope your first day is spent chatting to your new colleagues (well, my first week day back from maternity leave after dd1 was anyway .

Not such a bad day here - I actually enjoy it being overcast for once!- dd2 has only changed her outfit about 7 times so far (I have no idea where she gets this from but I blame dh ...and dd2 has been fairly happy trying to work out how to roll over without getting her elbow in the way. Still absolutely no success unless I give her a little push, but she's happy trying.
Low point today so far was dd2 very accurately aiming a mouthful of milk at my toes in open sandals . Not pleasant.
I've also managed to cook a batch of baby food and started my experiments again eg potato, beetroot and garlic... Pleased to say that despite the expriments she prefers homemade food to jars (I've always mixed because we go away for weekends a lot, so I did not want either dd to refuse jars).
Must go, dd1 is looking for a tshirt that looks like the one I am wearing...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 01/07/2010 14:39

Got it, bc! I will email you forthwith...

Tried DD with a little mashed up potato (with some expressed milk) - she wasn't overly impressed. Much preferred licking at a piece of banana and plum offered earlier on. Will keep offering her things to try, anyway! Probably try some carrot next.

Only 4 wake-ups last night (including one 45 mins after she first went to sleep) and no long resettlings, so a feeling of vague progress. Shame I didn't sleep better, though!! Cough woke me up earlier in the night, then although DD went back down quickly after her 05.15 wake-up, I was wide awake when she started stirring again at 06.30. Better than having to get up and do the early shift at work though, as in the old days...!
I've stopped being so neurotic about naps, now. She'll sleep when she seems tired and overnight sleep seems unaffected by the number and duration of her naps thus far. We shall see, anyway.

Ooh, bad mummies, tempting me with more slings!! I'm heroically resisting looking at those links...

Oh dear, I just ate a big bar of chocolate. On my own. Oops.

fiziwizzle · 01/07/2010 16:12

Glad I'm not the only one who 'accidentally' eats a whole bar of chocolate IC!

sorry, this is a me, me, me post - I've got an interview for a job on Tuesday!!! erk.. 10 minute presentation too

also, DS has TERRIBLE trapped wind (bottom end rather than top)? it's coincided with his first tooth coming through so dunno if the two are linked? nasty nappies too? it's been taking over an hour to settle him the last couple of nights, and waking him up regularly too? massaging and cycling etc but still bad

hmm

hope all well - am off to bed!

BabyGiraffes · 01/07/2010 22:12

stoof fantastic news (the job interview, not the wind...). Keeping my fingers crossed

bearcrumble · 02/07/2010 08:49

Good luck Stoof!!

I'm more about the cakes than straight chocolate at the moment (although of course I am not averse) - sainsbury's do these tubs of rocky road and I am a bit addicted. Ice cream too - Ben and Jerry's chocolate brownie and Waitrose Banoffee Pie flavours.

Got your email, thanks IC but haven't had a chance to read the exerpt yet.

Had a BAAAAD night last night. Feel jetlagged.

Went to baby clinic for weighing yesterday and despite me saying "He's 19 weeks but he was 5 weeks early so the dot will go on week 14", as ever they put the dot in the wrong place and I had to say again. Then she checked with her calendar (like I don't know how old my son is!!! Grr.) and promptly put the dot on week 19 rather than 14. Moron. His growth chart is covered in tipp-ex because they seem incapable of either listening to me or counting. Sorry I am a bit grumpy after no sleep. He just would not stop fidgeting, really kicking out - I'm shattered.

Next week we are off to Somerset for a few days to stay with DH's great aunt near Minehead.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/07/2010 11:51

Don't worry, bc, no rush!

Fellow feeling on the BAAAAD night, bc - crappy one here, too. Only partly DD's fault (one long resettle... 1.5 hours... and assorted awakenings) - the rest was a reappearance of my bloody cough, insomnia and IBS. The unholy trinity! Meh.

Hey ho.

Good luck, stoof - hope the wind probs clear up soon

bearcrumble · 02/07/2010 12:50

Aww, comiserations.

Forgot to mention DH job thing. They liked him and have gone back to Germany to discuss with other partner. They aren't considering anyone else for the role. Trying not to count my chickens but feel quite positive about it.

BabyGiraffes · 02/07/2010 13:19

Just have to share a picture of my LO's lunch today.... Potato, beetroot and quinoa.

So cute bg, wish I could look so delighted to eat something so healthy. The only thing that raises a smile like that for me at the moment is Cadburys caramel nibbles. Yum yum yum.

Had a lovely surprise today as dp had arranged for a cleaner to come for the whole morning. He is obviously fed up with the mess! And she is coming next week.

All this talk of jobs makes me feel bad as I won't be working until March next year at least. So glad I am at home at the moment too as dd had a settling in session at her first school this week and was fine as long as I was glued to her side, but she cried when I tried to go for a coffee with the other mums. She is quite bossy outgoing when she is in familiar surroundings, but very unsure of herself in new situations. September will be stressful for her.

I realised it is exactly a year since I had an 8 week scan and finally, after 2 miscarriages, saw a lovely flickering heartbeat. Kind of put the broken nights into perspective for me. Ds has really changed in the last few weeks into a really content, smiley little fellow and I am feel so lucky to have him.

Have a good weekend everyone.

stoofadoof · 02/07/2010 21:43

BG

i have work! full time temp contract starting 9am on monday. And they're letting me have tuesday morning off to go for my 'proper' interview.

everything crossed please!!

now a mad rush to get some clothes fit for work!! the last 5 years (before my year SAHM in NZ) I worked in jeans and hoody, so even if stuff fitted (gah) it wouldn't be suitable for a proper grown-up job? i currently have two pairs of trousers and two tops (one of which i bought for the wedding we're going to on friday, and the other for the interview on tuesday!!) have just spent an hour on ebay trying to find stuff (cos am determined to shed this weight soon, and i'm hoping i might be back in a jeans and hoody kinda job soon!) but no luck

will be hitting the charity shops tomorrow morning, DD and DS permitting!

DS wind hasn't seemed quite so bad through the day today, but he's grumbled on and off since going to bed 2 hours ago - three times i've got into the room just in time for him to settle himself (which is of course a good thing!)

night night!

BabyGiraffes · 02/07/2010 21:59

I may have to give my food experiments a rest because her lunch went everywhere... She loved the colour though and kept looking down at her bib (even had to get the heavy duty plastic one out..)

chinook me too! Two miscarriages after dd1 (and loads before her) and then a lovely strong heartbeat. I keep reminding myself that I am really lucky to have not just one but two sweet little girls. Almost feels greedy to want another!!

stoof Fingers and toes crossed for you

Away for the weekend now and already feel good just for being away from home... Quite you now have a cleaner chinook. I suggested it to dh and he thought our house was too untidy for a cleaner to come in

ClimberChick · 03/07/2010 05:16

Hi all,

Survived my first week (if 2 days counts) at work. Expressed 12 oz on the work pumps in just 2 10 min expresses. RShe's been taking about 13oz in a day. I express as soon as I get home and get another 3oz. Reckon I would have got maybe 8 poss 10 with mine, but would have taken alot longer. Have now decided to rent a pump for home (about £30 a month). That way if she does go on a strike, I'll happily switch to full time expressing. Of course now i've got insurance she'll be fine. The expressing takes a while as the room is tens mins away, but I've been coming home a bit early (short of 8hours) and working in the evenings once she's asleep.

Speaking of insurance, she is now registered with a doctor, so big weight off my mind.

I've employed a new approach to bedtime, so for the last two nights we've got had the crying lasting for ever. DH was putting her to bed before, but I'm at work bathtime is my job. She's still waking alot but the poor thing just seems so wired, I wonder about the all the new shiny things going on in her mind. We're going to get her weighed on tues, so hopefully she's stabilised percentile wise (we were under the 2nd last time). But she has fattened up (got creases and everything).

Anyone elses LO remind them of a dog when they're chewing on their teeting rings, or am I just a cruel and twisted mum.

Lovely pic BG DH first looked horrified at the mess and then said that if it makes her that happy he won't care. Also congrats and good luck to stoof, have some chocolate

ClimberChick · 03/07/2010 05:30

We're also at the playing with hair, mines rather short so she pauses whilst feeding, reaches up, has a little play and then gets on with feeding.

We've also started to discover that feet taste yummy

Maybe with all the stuff being cheaper here, we can make a profit by bringing it to the UK

GuernseyFrench · 03/07/2010 07:32

An interesting night over here as DS decided at 1am that he wanted to chat to his teddy bear but when he chats he actually screams... Good wake up call at this time of the night.

He is so alert and active and really want to keep going even if he is to small to move around. Hence frustration screams and tears. I am wondering how long we have before he finds a way to freedom

BG lo at your LO. She looks so proud of herself.

On the weaning front DS has not understood that the spoon is supposed to come to his mouth, instead he propulses (sp) to the spoon with his mouth opened!

I have got very short hair but he still tries to grab then especially when on the changing mat.

Looks like weather is back to be sunny so we're going to go on a nice walk today.

Have a good weekend

GuernseyFrench · 03/07/2010 07:33

CC lovely pics

InmaculadaConcepcion · 03/07/2010 12:55

Ha ha! Did she get any of it actually in her mouth, BG?!!

Yes, very cute pix, CC - keep 'em coming!

I was thinking about this time last year... I was pretty certain by now that I was pg, but DH was away for a week and made me promise not to do a test until her was back. I had a pretty good pregnancy - felt a bit queasy, but no morning sickness (just needed to keep eating) and I got sensitive to certain smells (especially deep fat frying, which is a bit of a 'mare in Spain as they deep fry EVERYTHING!), but otherwise felt fine. It was all so unreal until the first scan... where I discovered I was two weeks further on than I thought...

Anyway.

DD has just discovered smacking her lips and loves doing it (including in her sleep at times). She's also getting more mobile, although still not rolling properly.

Last night was ok - 4 wake-ups between 19.20 and 06.30, so not bad. I slept better too, so feel okay today. Loads of storms here at the moment - don't seem to bother DD though. Hope it doesn't rain on the Gay Pride parade - there were up to 2 million people there for it last year.
