Lady Water the soil before had and then lay from one edge. Lay the next strip next to it but overlap by a few cm. Then put a plank on the already laid grass and use this to walk along to lay subsequent reams. Don't lay them all exactly next to each other so they finish in a row - you need more of a tiling effect IYSWIM? Then on the overlapped bits you need to 'knit' them together and bang down (can't remember what we used)

Miamla you are a biscuit (or should that be cake?) pro

QueenofDreams · 07/05/2010 11:16

morning all.
loti I can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said already. Stay strong, and keep in mind that you deserve the very best. Do what you need to do to have a better life.

Gosh LOTI he sounds awfully unempathic, you know what I'm going to say LOL. We all think my DBro is borderline Aspergers and his current family situation seems to work well for them - he works 100miles away on shifts and stays in a youth hostel 4 nights a week! They seem happily married anyway, SIL says it is less work for her when he is away and they have 3 kids, he enjoys living like a student and organises the weekly darts match at the hostel!
Has your always been so bad at empathy or just since the kids arrived? You have had your personality slowly ground down by him, whether he meant to or not, and it's time to find out who you are. It doesn't have to be a permanent thing but I do think only something dramatic will shake him by the boots and realise what he's done and what he is losing.

Big two are at afterschool filmclub til 5pm yippee! Was thinking of visiting MIL but opted for laundry, reading and sewing curtains. She is having DBabyNiece on Fridays soon so I will be checking up visiting every Friday pm. Not just to see DNiece but because I haven't trusted MIL with a baby since DD, she's just so physically crap (wonky feet from botched op, terrible posture from wonky feet, rubbish balance anyway, osteoporosis so any fall could make a broken bone, reflexes of a valium addict, lost her hearing aid months ago and hasn't replaced it etc etc etc). She won't be having Kurt more than an hour til he's out of nappies and she's less likely to try and lift him. You would not believe she was only 60.

GladioliBuckets · 07/05/2010 14:13

Article that might be of interest to LOTI & QoD & No1 too if she's lurking.

LadyGardenia · 07/05/2010 17:11

Turf rolls were 5 for 4 at B&Q so I am loaded up (back nearly broken) and ready to (un)roll.

Sazz by knitting the edges you mean sort of raggedying them about and encouraging them together, correct?

I am so in the mood for television. Think I am going to watch tv tonight and possibly even eat crap if I can find any.

TwilightSurfer · 07/05/2010 17:13

major accomplishment. i've installed a new internet security software program on my laptop. the only bad stuff it found was under dh's login. don't worry it's not bad bad so don't go thinking the worst. it's just his car forums are filled with crap links. all fixed now.

reese napped early.

anybody having problems with kids only drinking one thing. reese will now only drink orange juice. hoping it's a phase.

dizzy thinking of you.

lucky (((hug)))

LG - here for your perusal.

oopsandbabycoconut · 07/05/2010 17:20

You want to leave the ends in tact and overlap them by about an inch or so then squish them into each other so they are tightly squeezed together. Don't stretch them to fill gaps and also if you need to have any small bits they are best in the middle rather than the ends as they dry out easily adn leave you with bald edges.

Just been for my bikini wax and eyebrows done so all tidy now and DD2 can arrive.

oopsandbabycoconut · 07/05/2010 17:21

TS - DD will only drink water or milk she pulls the strangest faces at juice and asks for water!

MrsMiamla · 07/05/2010 18:14

TS - DS only drinks water or milk for me. For my mum he'll drink whatever she puts in his cup

right girls, i've told a lie and i'm not sure how to get out of it! you know those situations that just get deeper and deeper and then you think fuck, i'm at the bottom of a very deep hole!!

so, i was walking down the hill (and i'm about 1min walk from my house). There's a girl walking up the hill pushing 3 children in a pushchair with a huge, heavy looking bag tied on the back. We passed each other and i commented on how i thought DS was heavy and wished her luck for the rest of her walk. She noticed i was pregnant (its a bit hard to miss now!) and asked if i knew what i was having. I told her and we had a chat about how lovely children were etc. She then asked if i was local, i said no that i was visiting my uncle (wasn't a complete lie, we were actually very close to my uncle's house!). I said no because she seemed quite clingy and i just haven't got the energy to start a new friendship (and if truth be known, i was very judgey re her and her kids, they could all have done with a good scrub ). So, it turns out that the bag was full of baby girl clothes and she'd just been to her friend's house to give them to her but friend was 'too snobby' to take them and she asked if i wanted them. What could i say?! So, i've now got a huge bin bag of baby clothes. I have no idea what's in it, i haven't looked yet..i've put it straight in the boot of my car. She opened the bag to show me a few bits and the smell was horrible. Anyhow, she then asked how she could get in touch with me for any other bits she had. (she kept going on about how her friend was too snobby to take anything from her) so i've got her number and said i'd text tonight.

what do i do? she lives just round the corner from me (she was keen to point out that she's at number 22 so her walk wasn't much further). i'm bound to bump into her now every time i go to the shops. Fuck. its very dark at the bottom of this hole!

help!

GladioliBuckets · 07/05/2010 18:26

Oh s*%t, know that feeling! If you bump into her again just vague it out, yeah my uncle lives on that street, I live over that way , make her feel like she misunderstood. I would wash all the clothes and keep any treasures, give the rest to charity/basics-bank-type-thing if you have one and collect piety points for a good christian job well done.

oopsandbabycoconut · 07/05/2010 18:31

And on the texting front - if you run into her again say you texted and check you have the right number. Be sure to delete a random number from the one you have saved on your phone though. Worst of all you could end up with a text like a friend got today saying 'haven't seen you in ages fancy meeting for a cuppa or would you rather I just stopped contacting you as we never seem to have the same days free?'

CaptainCaveman · 07/05/2010 18:33

I would also pretend you had misunderstood her question, and vague it out

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/05/2010 18:41

Oh cripes miamla, i can hardly see you at the bottom of that hole

I think i would just leave it tbh and not contact her, as Oops says, change a number in your phone. Wash the clothes if you can and give to charity. You conscience will be salved. Oh and then go out and buy a long red wig and never step foot outside your door until after August.

DD2 ate for her tea the same as DD1, an adult portion of fish (Taste the Difference breaded Cod no less), about 10 chips and a quarter of a tin of baked beans. This was followed by two yoghurts (not the tiny ones) and was after a banana at 4.30pm . Actually this is probably about the same size tea i shall be having

Mainly milk and water (plus sparkling water), but occasional apple juice or blackcurrant squash on the menu here

oopsandbabycoconut · 07/05/2010 18:44

Sazz - we had the same tea here and about the same portion size, although DD wanted peas and beans and the banana came after a single yogurt and strwberries.

DH and I are off out to dinner tonight to a local chinese place - I have booked ILs for 3 nights in the next 2 weeks we are going to get some us time before chaos reigns.

MrsMiamla · 07/05/2010 18:46

loving your suggestions! i actually thought i was quite cunning in taking her number and not giving her mine, she was pretty insistent!!

buckets she did suggest i might want to wash them first but that it wasn't necessary because she'd just washed them herself! The top she got out of the bag was in a bad state and she was saying 'oh, its not all as bad as this, in fact this one just needs someone who knows what they're doing with a needle to fix it' I kept quiet about being able to sew!!

i'm especially liking the piety points idea!

right, so assuming i don't spot her before she spots me, what do i say when she's got the next bag of goodies for me? and wants me to pop in for tea? wants her daughter to marry DS? seriously, if i do see her again, she's not going to be easy to get rid of easily! i was standing on the street chatting to her for ages earlier despite me saying 'oh i mustn't keep you', 'i need to get back home to get DS's dinner sorted' etc etc She does seem a sweet girl but i really haven't got the energy for her

wish me luck...i'm now going to try and get DS in bed before pil arrive...they're due at 7...tick tock tick tock

oopsandbabycoconut · 07/05/2010 18:48

Miamla - my ILs arrive at 7.30 and DD WILL be sleeping beforre they arrive, it took her 4 days to recover last time!

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/05/2010 18:50

Did i miss national PIL babysitting night? Bugger

Enjoy your meals out ladies

CaptainCaveman · 07/05/2010 18:50

O been poorly for past 2 days with a temp that only goes down intermittently but then shoots back up when the calpol wears off. Been to docs today and he has a 'particularly nasty' ear infection , cue more antibiotics. At least he should feel better soon. He's slept in just his nappy for the last 2 nights as he has been roasting to the touch, poor lamb. He is currently downstairs with dh and grandma singing "ba ba ack ee, e i e i o". Clever lad

I learnt something in Uni today! and it's relevant. The reason the pre-election polls didn't pan out in reality is because people were being asked how they might vote, but in the cold light of the voting booth they have to make a real choice. Thus the exit polls, asking people which way they had actually voted had population validity .

LadyGardenia · 07/05/2010 18:54

Ooh thanks oops. We both just watched that and kept muttering "well I'm sure we could skip that step"! It does say lay them the day the turves arrives, I happen to know they arrived in B&Q on Thursday... oh well I'll post before and after pics!

Miamla you NUT! Could you grow a moustache? You are too nice. Text her and tell her you only make friends with imaginary people on the internet and you have been spoiled for RL. OR do what the others have said. Nutter.

CaptainCaveman · 07/05/2010 18:57

AM boggling at having Swiss Roll on your garden, surely that is something you eat?!

MrsMiamla · 07/05/2010 19:27

LG you've just said what my DH suggested ie only ever going out with a disguise on. He was similarly sympathetic!
thanks for your help girls!!!!!! I'm off to the hairdressers to get my hair dyed blond, buy a new pushchair and i'm only going to clothe DS in dresses whenever i go to the local shops now FFS!!!

pil babysitting? if only! we get to stay in and entertain them until they decide they're going home. they've got the whole of next week off work and won't give us a straight answer about how long they're going to be here. fuck. i am too nice!!!!

sounds like the swiss roll race is on!!!! we're getiting our rolls delivered tomorrow morning (i played the pg woman card and said i couldn't possibly collect it!)

cece poor O, hope he feels better soon
