Q woke at 4.45 am again and we even tried putting him to bed 40 minutes later than usual in hope of a later sleep in the morning! No such luck.
DH made a yummy feast, though. An enjoyable very shortened thanksgiving!

50ftQueenie · 27/11/2009 10:01

Glad you managed to have a good Thanksgiving Star, even if it was cut short!

Are any of the babies using pillows yet? I think they can be used from 12 months and I was wondering about giving M a pillow to see if it will stop her ending up scrunched up in a ball at one end of her cot. She also bangs her head a lot which wakes her up. A pillow might stop that happening so much. I'm going to investigate but wondered if anyone was using one yet.

Myjob - Someone hacked my Hotmail recently and sent a message to my whole address book. That happens all the time apparently didn't stop it being really annoying though!

I must say I am totally amazed. I have put a Boden item on eBay & within 2 hours of listing, it had a bid and 5 watchers. Now there are 9 watchers! It won't finish until the 6th December.

50ft Q has been using a pillow for several months. It's a special baby pillow (supposedly). Someone gave it to me because they had an extra, it came in the wrapper and it said specially designed for babies or something like that. It looks quite "breathable" iyswim. I put a pillow case over it, of course. I thought it was fine because when he comes in with me in the wee hours of the morning if he's being fussy, he always ended up on my arm and on my pillow or just on my pillow, so I thought, if a big fluffy feathery pillow didn't kill him, a baby pillow certainly won't. He loves his pillow.

That's happened to dh a few times with hotmail. Why can't they just SORT that? Really irritating.

myjob would you be bringing N with you to the ladies night?

Is the church close enough that you'd feel comfortable running home really quickly if needed? I can see how you wouldn't want to leave but if she's just sleeping... I'm just thinking for you to be able to get out and have a little refresher. You've been a bit down lately and had a lot to deal with - you could really use a breath of fresh air and a change of scenery (pistachio's words!)
x

50ftQueenie · 27/11/2009 11:37

Myjob, you little detective you! Did you see I was selling my beloved Robot shoes?

50ftQueenie · 27/11/2009 11:40

Ooops, pressed post instead of return!

Cheers Star. I have a feeling that M will enjoy having a pillow. Does it stop him moving around in his cot as much or not at all? I really think the head bumping is disturbing her sleep. When we were on holiday the travel cot had net sides so she didn't bump her head & she slept soooo much better (despite the travel cot being more like a play pen & the fact that it stunk of baby wee ).

StarExpat · 27/11/2009 11:43

He still moves around a fair bit... but searches for his pillow if he's gone too far from it. He has a baby duvet in there, too and sometimes if he moves around a lot, that will get scrunched up and he ends up laying his head on that as it's then like a soft pillow
I wouldn't have chosen to put the duvet in on my own, but again, someone gave it to us and I just popped it in there with a cover and he loves it. he also loves to snuggle in our big duvet (which I know isn't really "allowed" but that boy LOVES to be warm!) like his mommy!

50ftQueenie · 27/11/2009 11:49

I wouldn't worry so much now they bigger Star. I always thought that they still needed a low tog quilt for their first one but I have since read that from a safety point of view it doesn't matter what tog it is. If they're hot, at this age they can do something about it and wiggle free. M likes to be under our covers whilst still in her Grobag! She likes to be warm too. She even has a strong preference for warm food over cold!

StarExpat · 27/11/2009 12:37

Our HV kept telling us we were overheating Q when she would come to our house the first few weeks. But if we put him down like she suggested he would be quite obviously cold!
Q does same re grobag and our duvet 50ft
Also doesn't like cold cold food... but can't deal with anything more than just a little warm. He'll raspberry and make the "haaaaaaa" sound he makes when he approaches the oven. He'll wave his hand at it like "no" but with whole hand, not just one finger iyswim and say "haaaa! haaaaaaaa!"We think it's "hot" because we always say "hot!" to the oven with him, but who knows.

ronshar · 27/11/2009 12:39

I think once they hit 12 months all the rules go out the window.
Ooops W has woken. He is a bit poorly & grumpy today. I knew somthing was up yesterday when he didnt eat very much.
Back later.

Myjob/50ft I am watching you both. You know why.

50ftQueenie · 27/11/2009 12:52

Star - M does something similar. Anything that is occasionally hot she will approach really cautiously, make her mouth into an O and then breathe in & out loudly & touch it gently with one finger to see if it is hot.

StarExpat · 27/11/2009 13:10

That is so funny 50ft!!!

Poor W ronshar. I hope he's not too unwell and not for too long!

Q's problem is that when he's too busy (which is most of the time) he'd rather not waste time eating. He won't sit in his highchair to eat anymore. My friend has him sit on the floor because she's scared he'll choke if walking/running around, but even then he does more of a "perch" so he can be ready to take off at any second. Dinner is him running around playing, taking a few seconds to stop for food, chew, swallow, take a drink, then off again, then back for more. Sometimes, when really hungry, he'll stop for a few minutes and eat a bunch.
He sat in his highchair for 6 minutes a few days ago

Yay for chickpea eating pistachio!

What you selling 50ft?

I've survived the whole day without collapsing - hurrah! Don't expect any of you saw my thread, but was in agony in the night with what I think (hope) was my gallstones playing up, but wanted to check on here that it wasn't likely to be an ectopic. All good fun . Between that keeping me awake for hours, and ds getting me up for a feed at 2 and for the day at 5 I felt less rested when I got up than when I went to bed! Obviously hoping for a better night tonight!

Hey all, I've missed loads so I've not read. DH and I have now caught Poppy's cold. My throat feels like I've just swallowed a razor blade I'm feeling very sorry for myself. Poppy was up for hours in the night too which doesn't help. DH and I are both completely knackered.

I'm not too bad from a mental point of view tho, I think the higher dose of sertraline is working, I didn't get frustrated last night even tho Poppy was crying for aaages.

I'm still on my diet, despite having not lost ANYTHING this past week, I've had this on previous diets where I only lose the week I have my period, but it's rather frustrating. I think it's going OK tho. Had a mushroom burger and wholemeal rice for tea yummmm

DH has said yes to another child too, so that's great news. He said it was on condition that I got a check up before we start trying but I explained that pre-eclampsia wasn't anything that could be checked, I had great BP throughout the PG. He's happy to try again tho, but I'm hanging off till April because then my paid maternity leave time will go up.

Poppy's been really off her food recently, more so since she's had this cold. She's Ok otherwise but it's a pain when she used to eat anything. I'm still trying not to BF during the day but she is occasionally very insistent and while she's ill I can't say no I figured there might be something in the milk to soothe her throat? Plus I get to have a lie-down! I do need to start getting strict tho, esp as I only have just over a month left before I start work again!

Hope everyone else is OK. CSWS, how's the PG going? I noticed you're feeling tired all the time, any other symptoms?

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/11/2009 19:44

They are more agonising than childbirth pistachio! I first found out that I had them just after I had dd. I couldn't understand why no-one had told me that afterpains were that bad, and then when I was completely doubled over in pain and had to go to out of hours at the hospital they discovered (or at least suspected, and later confirmed by scan) that it was actually gallstones. I had to have major painkillers that knocked me out and left me able to do nothing except feed dd when dh brought her to me. I think the pregnancy and birth had shuffled things around inside and thus set off the pain.
Thankfully I haven't had another flare up since.
