LOL at obvious santa Star! I've read but not got time to type at the moment, but Pistachio, just wanted to say I'm sorry you're still feeling so low

I got my bonus notification today, not too bad considering the credit crunch and that I've only worked 14 days in the relevant year!! It's not anywhere near your DH's colleague though 50ft...

C'mon people, someone else must be up for secret santa??? We can't do it with just 3 of us!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/11/2009 19:42

Awww go on then, I'll do secret santa. Is star allocating who's buying for who? Are we setting a budget?

OP posts:
StarExpat · 24/11/2009 19:44

ah! wait! It was HMM's idea, not mine... I umm.... er... would just feel badly doing that because HMM should be the one to get to do it since it's her idea Yes, that's it.

aubergenie · 24/11/2009 21:12

Evening all. Just popping in briefly before I head off to bed. I'm afraid I'm going to have to opt out of the secret santa. With dp not working and me only p/t, we're really having to be careful at the moment. We've got some quite expensive bits that need doing on the flat (boring things like damp-proofing, so no obvious benefit at the end - apart from being dry of course.) We're already going to a Christmas meal with some friends (which I'm sure will be lovely). I've just seen the menu of the place where we're going and it's really pricey. It was supposed to be a pub lunch and it's all escalated. Lots of them do well-paid jobs and I think they forget that not all of us earn massive salaries.

S has discovered the joys of grafitti. Our kitchen cupboard doors are covered with scribbles. Fortunately it's only chalk, but I suspect this is only the beginning.

aubergenie · 24/11/2009 21:13

Sorry, that was a total stream of consciousness. I'm very tired.

Hope you all get good sleep.

aubergenie · 24/11/2009 21:14

Oh and I hope the antibiotics start doing the trick CSWS.

Honeymoonmummy · 24/11/2009 21:20

Aubergenie, would you mind selecting who's buying for who if you're not participating? Shall we say a fiver each?

Awww bless MyJob re N singing, that's so cute!

DH is great with Poppy, he is much more patient than I am. It was hard though for both of us in the early weeks when she was constantly crying with what we subsequently found out was reflux. Given that it can be common in siblings, I can understand this being a factor too. I'm fairly confident he'll come round, he's just much more cautious/ pessimistic than me.

I take your points re waiting for a while but I'm conscious that I'm now 35, I know some of you have had LO's older but I don't want to leave it too long. I also would like a relatively small age gap. If we do TTC it won't be before April next year anyway.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/11/2009 21:50

Oh dear - ds on third screaming fit since bedtime. Off to do medicine and then go to bed myself.

50ftQueenie · 24/11/2009 22:32

Oh no! Poor D and poor D's mummy!

I am very very very tired tonight so just very briefly popping in. I will catch up tomorrow.

Christmas shopping for the dc has been finished! Yay! And Martha tonight said "Boo Boo do it" about putting one of my shoes on. (Boo Boo is one of her many nicknames!)

aubergenie · 25/11/2009 07:12

How's D this morning CSWS. Did you get any sleep?

I'm v impressed at all the talking/singing going on. S says a few random words and can vaguely do the actions to "wind the bobbin up" but he's far more interested in charging around. It's interesting to see the gender difference as it's definitely the girls who seem to be more verbally advanced at this stage isn't it.

HMM - I'm happy to sort out the secret santa thing. Sorry about the tedious rant about our finances. I'm starting to feel a bit panicky about the fact that we're going to be paying for childcare from January but dp still doesn't have a job (despite searching very hard, I should add). I wanted to book the CM in as she's in demand, and at the time we were confident that he'd have found something by then. Ah well, at least it means that dp can do the settling in thing and some shorter days to start with without me having to leave work early but it's not ideal.

Well done for sorting your Christmas shopping so early 50ft. I really need ot get my arse into gear, especially as I'll be mostly buying onlone.

BTW - I noticed that M&S are only charging 1p for delivery at the moment if anyone's interested.

StarExpat · 25/11/2009 08:15

oh thanks for the M&S tip aubergenie!

HMM £5 sounds great to me as a budget. I'm not involved in any other secret santas and really only have to buy for DH and Q as I'm making truffles homemade for friends and colleagues here and sending an online album of photos to relatives in America. I know this sounds really cheap of me, but both the Grandparents and aunts/uncles want photos of Q of their own and said to send them as an online album and then put them all in a walgreens account and give them my username and password and they will have the ones they want printed out. I'll probably end up sending them a photobook from walgreens as in US prices I can get a nice one for about $15 USD each (about £8 I think).
Still feeling the pinch with money this year. I don't want Q to grow up, but it will be so much easier once he's in school! He'll have the same hours as me and no childcare costs will exist.

50ftQueenie · 25/11/2009 08:27

Star - That is one of the big advantages of having children. You never run out of ideas for presents for older relatives as they will always love photos of your beautiful children!

50ftQueenie · 25/11/2009 08:57

It's official!

StarExpat · 25/11/2009 09:19

Congrats to you and M 50ft!

I am lurking on that one pistachio. Because I like to lurk on threads that are really none of my buisiness interesting.

Glad you are coping better pistachio!

myjob - Hoping you feel less yuck soon!

So, Q has started sort of screeching at us when he wants something and can't have it or when he wants us to do something and we don't do it right away...
He's ALSO as of a couple days ago, started breathing hard in and out of his nose, sort of like a bull ready to charge or a rhinocerous... it's weird. in out in out in out breaths really vigorous. Like he's really angry. NO idea where he gets it from as no one he's around does this... and . Anyone else seen a toddler do this?

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/11/2009 12:51

Welcome to the toddler years star .

Well we had one more screaming fit requiring medicine and feeding at 4am (up for 50 mins), but he seemed in a brighter mood this morning, and actually ate a proper breakfast for the first time in at least a week, and he had a snack at toddler group and a bit of lunch too (not a lot, but he doesn't really do sandwiches). He's just gone for a nap now - took a few mins of screaming for him to settle, but sounds like he's just gone off. Hopefullly I can manage a sit down for a cuppa before rushing about doing jobs.

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling well now myjob.

And lol that there were only around 200 votes received in total in your nappy comp 50ft - do the other people not have any friends?!

He's still asleep! Looks like I'll have to do my Christmas shopping with dd in tow after the school run instead of before (have something set aside in John Lewis that I need before Saturday).

StarExpat · 25/11/2009 15:18

Good csws! I'm glad that D got some sleep
Q got up for the day at 4.45am this morning but I can't really be with him when he finally perks up and giggles at me! he wasn't ready, though... he cried and cried and arched his back so much (starting at about 4.30) until he finally calmed down and just woke up. I am sleepy.

I've started imitating Q with the heavy nose breathing when he gets angry. Isn't he too young for anger?? So when I imitate him he laughs hysterically!! He's started scrunching his nose, squinting and smiling for us when we entertain him. It's the funniest thing.

I hope you get well soon myjob and have a good night's sleep!

So when is everyone free in january, then?
