Thought we deserved a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

hm I totally agree about the early discipline. We cant let them get away with with everything then one day start laying down the law. They need to know the rules from the get go.
Dd's favourite is throwing. I got the ITNG bandstand thingy on the back of the head the other day. ouch.
I was saying to my mum just today that when watching all the children at playgroup I think it is obvious which children have siblings. Their whole play manner is different from those that are only children iykwim. Sometimes I think think Hannah looks lonely

smooth transition to next topic

We have been without contriception since early last year, just letting nature take its course if you will. But recently we have stepped it up a gear iykwim in the baby making department.
2010 is already the year of the baby boom. The village that I am from is tiny, 12 streets to be exact, and already there has been 4 pregnancy announcements!!

baiyu congrats & good luck with the job
macaco its good to hear your business is doing well.

The thread has been very busy this week hasnt it

Hee hee! Talking of babies....my cousin and his wife rang last night, absolutely distraught because their 5 week old wouldn't stop screaming ( I could barely hear them on the phone) and it brought back lots of memories!!!! I don't know what they expected me to do (they live 50 mins away) but I think they were just at the end of their tether....my poor cousin's wife said to me 'I think I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown!!!!' I then thought of my lovely fun little toddler and little girl and it confirmed I have definitely had all the kids I want (god job too considering the snippage!!).

Better go....they've woken up.

BWC I weigh 71KG too.

macaco · 16/01/2010 09:30

LM that reminds me of the first coule of months with DS! screaming and me not having a clue! Ha! And here I am thinking of another! fnar fnar. I lie to myself that it'll be easier with a second cos I'll know what I'm doing. ha! we'll see.

I've lost quite a bit of weight with the stress of the business starting up (and some other family related stresses) and I'm feeling really quite slim at 72kg, so I must've been a right porker before . I'm 5' 7" and I always weigh heavy iykwim. The slimmest I've been in recent years was at 4 months pregnant when I weighed 68kg. I'd slimmed down a bit for my wedding then spent the first four months with HG (puked all day for weeks) and lost even more weight.
I'd like to lose another 4kgs or so so get back down to about 68 or even 65kg before I think about getting pregnant again. Although to be honest, if it's anything like last time being pregnant's a bit like going on a diet for me anyway . Wish it wasn't.

harimosmummy · 16/01/2010 13:13

haha, Macaco - it's those rose tinted spectacles that keep the human race going!!! I don't miss the very early days.. Mimi is 5 months now and I know her well enough to know what she wants - it's horrid when your child is crying and you can't soothe them.. LM - I bet your cousin just needed to reach out to someone before he went insane

IMO, it is def. easier with No. 2... I was such a dimwit novice with Haribo... LM - Unbelieveably, I now leave the house with this and have everything I need for 2 children... I still chuckle when I remember my earlier attempts at changebags

Weightwise... i weigh 67kg and would, ideally, like to weigh 60Kg (but I'd settle for around 62Kg...) have just booked the kids into nursery tomorrow so will attempt to go to the gym!!

Hope you are all having happy weekends -

MM - How is your dad these days?

Lucky2010 · 16/01/2010 13:18

macoco I think I always weigh 'heavy' too. I'm a size 12, and at Christmas I was 11 st 7lbs but still in my size 12 clothes. A friend at work is 10 and a half stone and is a size 14-16.....it just really varies. We all have a weight we are comfy at. I only just got under 11 stone (by half a lb!) for my sisters wedding, other than that, haven't been under 11 stone for 4 yrs since pg with DD1. I would love to be 10st 8lbs, or even 10lbs.

50 lengths this morning and spinning booked for Monday so who knows!!!

Lucky2010 · 16/01/2010 13:22

wasn't it more like this HM

Lucky2010 · 16/01/2010 13:23
Grin
harimosmummy · 16/01/2010 15:14

and it was stuffed to bursting point!!

Lucky2010 · 16/01/2010 16:35

so nice ot be over that stage isn't it....and whoever asked (sorry, can't remember) yes it is definitely easier second time around cos you are more confident, but it's harder cos you have an older child to look after on top of everything 'newborn'.

Lucky2010 · 17/01/2010 19:59

at the risk of opening a huge can of worms....can I just ask how many of you are having your DCs vaccinated against swine flu.

DH and I are worried about the Squalene in the vaccine and the fact that it has been impossible to test it's long term effects.

I have just posted on this thread

I know we discussed it a while ago but I wondered what everyone's thoughts were now?

harimosmummy · 17/01/2010 20:15

Hi guys!

For those of you with older kids... what potties would you recommend?

haribo has, in the last day or so, started to tell me when he wants to do a wee... and then wants his nappy changed - it's exhausting! so I'm going to have to start thinking about potty training.

Any advice, tips etc would be much appreciated.

BaconWheatCrunchies · 17/01/2010 21:21

I had my Swine flu jab on Friday, I wasn't going to get my 2 done, but now a GP friend has, I'm not sure!

DS1 talked for months about the 'nasty lady' from when had his preschool jabs, so I'm more worried about the actual administering. Who would go 1st, DS1 who will probably crumble and worry DS2 or the other way??

I wanted DH to phone hid friend who's a GP (and his wife) and see what they're doing, but of course he hasn't

shonnomanom · 17/01/2010 21:50

hi
lucky iv just been on that thread after you. The shorter version of what I said on there is that DD didnt get the jag as I dont trust the long term effects. What I didnt say on that thread is that I dont want to have to explain to dd in 10 years or so that she is ill or cant have kids or whatever because she had the jag. I know thats over reacting but I couldnt live with the guilt. My feelings are stronger for the long term effects rather than the short iykwim.

ON a similar topic. My friend's sister died as a child after having the Whooping Cough vaccine. As a result the parents decided that no-one else in the family should have it. Which was fine as no-one caught wc. But my friend's ds caught it when he was a toddler, having not been vaccinated, and now only one of his lungs is fully operational. My friend feels really guilty about him not having the vaccine but her son (now in high school) is quick to say that 'he'd rather than have 1&half lungs than be dead'.
Hope this helps.

Nothing much happening here
Hope everyone is well

BaconWheatCrunchies · 18/01/2010 06:41

Forget to say thanks for the weight confessions, made me feel better although it shows how weight and size can differ.

Baiyu good luck with the interview.

I didn't have whooping cough vaccine as a child, there was a big brain damage scare and my Mum's convinced I had whooping cough. We all have to do what we think's best for our LOs.

baiyu · 18/01/2010 15:09

I think DS will have the jab, we haven't been offered it yet. Not 100% sure though.

harimosmummy · 18/01/2010 18:23

Good luck, tomorrow Baiyu

Re. the SF jag.... I think it really is a case of weighing up the risks. I can see, for Mitchell's DD, the risk of getting SW was greater than taking the jag, so she got it. For others, the risk of SF is less than the possible long term effects of the jag, so they will hold off giving it.

For me, I'm not planning on having DS and DD 'done' - they HAVE been offered it - DD basically when she reaches 6 months, but I'm not keen. I ummed and ahhed about the MMR and there is WAY more research known about that.

Obviously, if things change and the risk is heightened for either / both of them, I will reevaluate in a heartbeat... As someone said, all we can do is what we feel is the best for our individual kids in our individual circs.

DS is being a right royal pain today... Up until 9:45 last night and up at 6am this morning. Very tired, very grumpy and very READY FOR BED!!!

Mimi is already asleep and Haribo is going as soon as he's finished his milk.

Eat your heart out, LM... I'm going to have them both in bed for 6:30!!!

HM x

BaconWheatCrunchies · 19/01/2010 07:21

Hope you had a good night with them HM.

I have a long whinge about my BIL and DH's 2 friends later, no time now! Would like an opinion, but too scared of the whole of MN

Lucky2010 · 19/01/2010 07:32

I'm wondering if DD1 actually has swine flu now.......

harimosmummy · 19/01/2010 07:41

Nah... absolute helluva night here.

Haribo up from 8pm and... well... he's still grumbling. Mimi up 3 times - not like her and I have bloody decorators in at 8am.... NOT NEEDED this morning.

I have absolutely NOWHERE to bail out to with two ill kids - it's just not fair to send them to the nanny or go to see friends (who all have babies too)... I hate being here sometimes.

LM - I hope your DD1 is OK

BaconWheatCrunchies · 19/01/2010 18:37

DS2 just said his big brother's name as he said bye bye for bedtime (not mastered night night yet), very cute! .

DS1 has high temp, but thankfully no vomiting.

shonnomanom · 19/01/2010 21:22

oh all the lo's sound poorly! I hope they all get better soon!

bwc its great when they say actual names isnt it. Dd doesnt do it much but her wee cousin has been doing it loads for months

I am absolutely shattered! on eof the kids i look after was off school today with a nasty eye infection so Iv jsut done an 11 hour shift 7-6. back out at 7 for 2 hours tomorrow then straight to playgroup

Going to see Avatar in 3D tommorrow, child free night, cannot wait!

Lucky2010 · 20/01/2010 12:37

Sho enjoy Avatar!

HM Are your two any better today?

DD1 didn't eat much yesterday but kept down what she did eat. Took her to mass this am as I had to get the priest to sign the forms for school application. She threw up in church . Poor little thing....

Bathed them both when I got home as a treat as DD1 bit covered in sick.

DD2 decided to do two big poos in the bath which I had to scoop out (yuk!).

Washing machine coming tomorrow....thank God.

Hey girls

Bit of a quick but urgent post.

Our Quinny has broken and trapped dd's hand in it in the process (lots of bruising and broken skin but overall ok ) It was a bad experience for us both and I'm not going to even try and put her back in it. So, I need to buy a new pram now. What prams do you all have? What would you get? Most important thing is a comfy seat for dd, followed by ease of folding, basket size, looking nice. I'd also like proper wheels if possible (like rubber tyres?)

Thanks girls

MM Poor DD hope you are her are alright must have been quite a scare.
We have phil and teds, quinny zapp and Maclaren. Most comfortable is phil and teds but is bigger than the two other buggies. Maclaren is more comfortable than zapp and can recline if needed. But neither are great for off road but do benefit from folding small.

LM and Harimo Hope kids are all feeling better.

Sho Glad that you enjoyed your movie

We have finally made the decision and cancelled the appointment for today to get DS's vaccination against swine flu. I just hope it stays away from our part of scotland It does seem to have quietened down now.
