Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks for the kind words, Slick! Not much time by myself but I do get help from my sil and dh. Feeling ok, actually coping quite well without AD's (touch wood, touch wood...)
I so agree with what you're saying. And I try hard not to wish the time away but sometimes. Part of it is definitely not having enough friends with babies. I try going to a group but that doesnt always work out, and it takes time to build up relationships, IYKWIM. My good friends with babies are all back in London or South Africa. But it could be worse. That's what mumsnet is good for - there is always somebody worse off than you, haha!

Ben is sleeping ok-ish, some nights on, others off. Now he has a new thing: he refuses to go down in the evening. Seriously!! Tonight spent an hour in there.
But he is cute, oh my. And he eats well and he laughs a lot and he is saying Oda (my cat is Yoda!) and will make cute little baby jokes.
Ok, must go eat now, bye!

Slickbird · 14/04/2010 13:34

Yeah we are just starting to get first words from Nicholas now, although 'Teddy' being a favourite and he has being saying it on and off for a while. But also 'Daddy, Mummy' and he tries to say 'Eilidh' (big sis) but it comes out 'Ay-yay'. Not bad attempt really! Oh, yeah and "no" which I think he gets from Toddler sis! The mummy/daddy thing is funny tho because I'll say to him; 'Say mummy' and he'll say "Daddy" and I say, 'no, say mummy' and he says "daddy" and chortles away thinking this is a right hoot as he knows he's being a wee monkey. Is v. cute tho.

Still no walking apart from on his baby- zimmer but he is starting to look a lot more centred when he stands so I don't think it will be long. The other two were 14 months so I think he'll be the same. He has had about 6 teeth all burst through at the same time so he now has nearly 14, but he's not been a happy bunny with it. DD2 has just finished getting her back molars and her cheeks were SOOOOO red I had to put calamine lotion on them! Poor thing. Now she is smothering with hayfever. Oh the joys.

Hope everyone is well!

Wheelybug · 14/04/2010 15:52

mdavza - sorry to hear you've been having a rough time but well done on managing it. Stay strong !

Not much to report here - we'll well and truly over chicken pox although I then got tonsillitis which was horrendous. I think its the illest I've been since having children and still had to carry on. But better now !

Have just had my hot water turned off for a week though - eek ! Our cylinder has a leak and they can't replace it until next wk so we are all going to smell. L is going to v. grubby as she seems to need a bath every day these days. What joy. At least it means we don't have a bucket catching drips in our kitchen which has been an endless source of fun for her - moving it to another room, dropping puppy (her prized snuggly thing) into it etc etc.

Hope everyone on easter hols is surviving ok ! We've been v. busy and I'm exhausted but fun. DD1 back at school monday !

meep · 14/04/2010 20:08

mdavza hope you're okay - but how great is it that you've got through you're blip without ads. I know how lonely it can feel when it is just you and the lo - I used to walk up and down shopping centres with dd1 and still felt so totally alone even in a sea of people. I was lucky to have a good bunch of nct friends who got me through the baby days of dd1. I definitely wished the time away - which is why I spent a lot of my maternity leave with dd2 just sitting and cuddling her.

No words from Rosie yet - still just dada and now nanananananana and dat dat dat! But still huge amounts of cheekiness and cackling giggles!

And she still hasn't caught chickenpox - despite dd1 having it and nearly every child at nursery having it!

slick get yourself some calamine cream from Boots - so much easier to put on - your poor wee dd2. Saw your thread about teh piriton - ddid she get sleepy?

No Easter hols for us wheely - I am looking forwaqrd to that stage with a mixture of joy and dread!!!

laumiere · 14/04/2010 23:32

Wow 14 teeth slick! No walking here but serious cruising. Daddy is still G's favourite and only word

Slickbird · 15/04/2010 19:08

Laumiere Yeah, he's big on hair and teeth my son.

Meep Yeah, thanks, what a stupid cow I was there, she was a bit drowzy but not enough to make her nap. (damn ) Although, here's the thing, Nick had us up a whopping 7 times last night and Carla had us up 4 - it was like a bloody relay race between them so we got zero sleep only to find Nicholas is streaming today and it's actually a cold they both have.... Muppet. Was really like hayfever tho as she was rubbing her eyes and nose so much. Oh well, live and learn.

I hope they sleep tonight, but am back to not holding my breath.

Nicholas has taken to getting into ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING HE SHOULDN'T AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT HE SHOULD. Am I alone in this?

meep · 15/04/2010 19:45

You are not alone slick - today Rosie made a beeline for the one double plug socket that didn't have covers on it and started playing with the switches! She has played with the paper recycling box in that corner for the last 4 montths and totally ignores the plus - but oh no, today she decided to dice with electricity......

You are also not alone on the sleep (or lack of). Dd1 woke up and howled at 1.30am - sorted her out and crept back to bed. Exactly 24 minutes later Rosie howled and that was it all tits up for the rest of the night.

Dd1 now knows that if she shouts in the night it will "make mummy grumpy" as I have been a bit of a shouty mummy today. But we've had lots of fun at Dobbies - though she did face plant in one of the Wendy Houses - ugh.

My frustration with Rosie at the moment is food time. She just loves giving me a knowing look, making sure I am watching, then dropping her food/sppon/cup ove the edge of the highchair. Cue shouting until it gets picked up again - WHY WHY WHY???!!!!

Cruising here too lau - and lots of balancing on one leg (can have disastrous consequences. How was your birthday?

B*gger - just sloshed red wine onto myself - must go and clean...........

laumiere · 15/04/2010 20:20

Was great thanks meep! We had steak on my actual birthday with 12 mates then DH and I went clubbing on the Fri. Was £120 in babysitting fees but well worth it!

Missmodular · 15/04/2010 20:41

Hi guys, just finished a tough day with the girls - M had her MMR yesterday, and DD1 had her MMR booster jab - cue even more misery than what the recent spate of colds/teething has brought on. Snot, temperatures, crying, whingeing, tantrums (mainly me), more snot... need I go on? Meep I too have been shouty mummy

Of course there have been lovely moments too - DD1 bringing Melissa a toy when she was crying and giving her a cuddle being one of them, but what a slog. Thank god for Calpol. Off to slosh some wine. Fingers crossed we all have a decent night's kip but I suspect that won't be the case in the Modular house...

Slickbird · 15/04/2010 20:46

So it's not just me on the red wine then...

meep · 16/04/2010 13:30

Rosie has chickenpox! Gah!

meep · 16/04/2010 13:33

miss the whingeing - that's what makes me lose it - constant "I want I want I want". I have been known to shout "you can't have chocolate at breakfast/cbeebies/your sisters book because I said so and don't even think of asking me again" - never works of course and just makes he ask even more. Your 2 girls must be about the same ages as mine (dd1 is 3 in July)?

Red wine is my friend slick!

kanga5 · 16/04/2010 22:40

Thanks grinning, yes our LO was 1 last wednesday. She still looked spotty from the chickenpox but at least she was in a good mood. Now she has a cold instead!

Slick, i think your comment re what babies are up to is exactly their JOB DESCRIPTION. dd2 has access to all the most unsuitable toys the older children have, so i may as well get rid of the baby toys. She prefers dirt, rubbish, anything stringy or rope-like that she can drape around her neck, takes a keen interest in the dishwasher, paperback books, the list seems endless!

mdavza hope you are ok too, it can be so hard at home with baby, especially without help at hand.

meep hope little rosie doesn't suffer with the chickenpox. we had 1 bad night and a couple of bad days, then dd2 was on the mend.

News here is that dd2 did her first proper walk today. Still can't help being histerically proud of her achievement....

Best of all dd1 is off all her heart medicine from last thursday...life feels different already.

our moving plans are gaining pace, we have sold our place, and looks like we are leaving the UK in May. Thing is i will miss my friends and London very much, but I can take you guys "with" me!!!!

mmmmmm like wine too
x

Missmodular · 16/04/2010 23:05

meep dd1 is slightly older than yours- 3.5 - we're over the tantrums but really into the 'why?'s. Mummy, why is your hair brown? Why don't people wear a skirt in bed? (a personal favourite of mine from this evening). But there's been lots of whingeing from both of them, both especially clingy, wanting to be carried/sit on my lap etc. It's exhausting, I can't get a thing done houseworkwise without risking a crying fest. When dp got home I gave him the girls and nearly ran out the door to my guitar group!

Missmodular · 16/04/2010 23:08

Wow, kanga, congrats to your dd2!! Good luck with the leaving plans...

kanga5 · 16/04/2010 23:12

new pic of dd2 on her birthday added to profile.

mismod, i know the feeling, i keep telling myself it is not forever, and some of them go back to school next week! phew...but when you only have preschoolers it can seem like things will never change. I am impressed you have a group to go to yourself. I have not done a hobby for a couple of years.

Missmodular · 18/04/2010 21:19

Eek - loads of pus has been coming out of Melissa's ear! I was putting her ear pulling down to teething and tiredness poor thing.

There seem to be a few threads about ear infections - a lot of people seem to think that once it's got to the pus stage it's beginning to heal and antibiotics are a little after the horse has bolted. What do my trusted colleagues on this little thread think?

Quick rant - am furious with GP as I took M there last Thursday about her continued night wakings/copious amounts of snot/signs of discomfort and not only did he not pick up the ear infection (he barely looked at her, let alone in her ears/mouth) but prescribed some meds for allergy sufferers - not because she's allergic but simply to make her drowsy

Meep, your post about shouting made me laugh. I have been known to bellow 'STOP SHOUTING' at DD1, sigh.

Kanga - DD1 does go to preschool so this week I have a little respite And double hurray that your DD2 is off the heart meds!!!

Slickbird · 20/04/2010 10:56

Miss Last time this happened in our house it was with the eldest when she was about 3 - she cried and cried and then stopped. Then all the pus came out and it was an ear infection that had burst her ear drum. We took her to an out of hours dr and she gave her anti-bs to stop it getting infected. Worth checking out. at your dr!!

Life has just been plain terrible since I last posted. As I mentioned, it turned out to be colds in both of them and having been up 8 times a night for the last week, DD2's cold developed into a nast chest infection that had her breathing twice as fast and from her tummy. Dr gave her an inhailer, steroids and anti-bs. You can imagine the fun hell we had getting all that in her. Then she went on to have 6 night terrors back to back (thanks to the steroids) but at least that helped get air into her lungs and the next day she was breathing better so we stopped witht he steroids. She's still on the rest but Nicholas has been in teething hell, I'm whimpering with exhaustion, have a slight cold myself and have show to do on Sat night and I have no idea how I will have the strength or voice to sing. (Choir - charity gig). Oh hell, hell, hell. Nick had the whole family awake middle of the night and it took an age to get back to sleep.

Things are feeling very desperate in the Slick household. DD2 has been intolerable and there is now a big dent in my bin in the kitchen after I lost it on Sat night. I can't even drink wine as I feel too ill.

Sorry to bring the thread down. Just exhausted.

Hope everyone else is faring better.

Meep Hope Rosie gets over the CP quick.

Slickbird · 20/04/2010 11:02

Oh yes and I also developed a migrane the eve I took her to the doctors and got a heavy period so that all added the challenge!

I was pretty disappointed to get a migrane as I had only ever had them when I was pregnant. That hellish 5 day one I had when pg with Nick over my birthday a year and a half ago. Still, only the very bright side, it only lasted a day or so and that was a huge relief. It's the little things....

Slickbird · 20/04/2010 11:06

Kanga (Sorry, I was all me me me me there) Double congrats on getting DD1 off the meds, what a huge relief it must be for you and for DD2 walking. She is gorgeous - and so like you I think!! Er, that sounds like I'm chatting you up. You know what I mean.....

Nick is thinking about it. But I think he is conscious of his weight and knows if he falls, it will be with a heavy thump. Wee scone.

kanga5 · 20/04/2010 11:14

poor slick I really feel for you. How exhausting and neverending it feels sometimes. It is worrying when they're ill too, not just the fact that your sleep is broken and all that medicine to go down. I hope you all turn the corner really soon, and everyone is on the mend, you can sleep, and then enjoy some wine and your show. Is there any one to help?

Just before the holidays when I was coping with dd2 chickenpox, and other issues, I almost decided not to send the boys to school. I had had such a bad night ie 1 hours sleep at 5.00 am. In the end I phoned my neighbour to take them to school as I figured it would be worth getting them up making their lunch etc just for the extra peace I might get,(even though they came home early for easter). The point is my neighbour said "of course, you don't have to be suermum", and then I realised I do try to do it all sometimes, and really it is better to ask for help, just once or twice , just to get a breather!!!!
xx take care slick

kanga5 · 20/04/2010 11:15

crossed posts!!!

kanga5 · 20/04/2010 11:19

kanga5 · 20/04/2010 11:19

Slickbird · 20/04/2010 11:24

Thanks Kanga.xx
