Struggling to load pages these days and saw we were over the 900 so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Amberc · 14/10/2009 13:41

Well the play slide would be a Chrissy present and believe me, this was one of the cheaper ones!

BTW Stephen Gately died of fluid on the lungs (pulmonary odeama competely mispelled!). That fluid was most likely vomit so choking on his vomit after a binge up is the most likely explanation (says today's newspapers)

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 14/10/2009 13:54

LOL at Amber and her keen Boyzone knowledge Glad you got your parcel and good point about the meet. Maybe it happenend without us

Where are the bloody Halloween smileys???

Waves to Rolf, Neenz and anyone else around waiting for Sponge-related news.

Just had a priceless baking moment when I inadvertantly launched an entire egg down the tube of the Magimix. Cake-a-la-eggshell. Had to start again!!

neenz · 14/10/2009 14:33

What I don't understand is - if it was vomit on his lungs, it's not natural causes is it? That's choking on your vomit ie an accident surely?

I read it could have been a heart condition which caused he fluid to build up.

Amberc · 14/10/2009 15:09

They are gong to test the fluid to see what it was. All a bit weird that he was found in a prayer position against a sofa. And what ws that fella doing there with them. Definitely sleeping with the husband if you ask me!

Amberc · 14/10/2009 15:10

PS - have been feeling really weird today. Too close to ovulation to be any kind of PG symptom but I have been getting excited and feel dizzy. Thinking it might be the house though. Also lack of sleep!

neenz · 14/10/2009 15:12

Well you know some couples like that sort of thing.

SpiderWilliam · 14/10/2009 16:04

PP did you see Stephen Fry's "Last Chance to See" from NZ the other week? You could be a kakapo. They are indigenous large flightless parrots. So you could the TheKiwiKakapo or some such. programmehere

Puree LOL at the whole egg. I think of you as being far too domestic godessey for such trifling errors. Makes me feel better about my cock ups in the kitchen. You should have seen the lump of pasta I cooked last night. It turned out ok in the end.

Amber is feeling excited one of the symptoms, or are you feeling excited beause of the other symptoms.

Pleased that others are in text contact with Sponge as my phone went very odd this morning and kept on switching itself on and off. I didn't feel able to handle the responsibility of missing a vital text! It seems to have recovered now though.

poppy34 · 14/10/2009 16:15

Latest sponge update is two gels down and no movement. Love that I am not only one grimly fascinated with poor stephen gateley.

Purée am impressed at your domestic goddess skills- my mother gave me a load of cookery books for my birthday. Might try some baking this weekend.

Home today as poor nanny caught edies lurgy- some nasty tummy bug doing the rounds here. Dh also got it so am hoping I am not next.

poppy34 · 14/10/2009 16:16

By no movement I mean no progress not that bill not moving ifyswim

Amberc · 14/10/2009 16:56

No movement downwards!

Spider - feeling excited is a symptom not a reaction to the symptoms as it's the main symptom - does that make any sense. I think I am just going mental to be honest. Joined a TTC thread and getting too absorbed. Prob not good!

SpiderWilliam · 14/10/2009 18:11

Hmm, poor Sponge, that doesn't sound like anything will be happening too soon. She was exhausted when I saw her on Monday morning because on top of everything else, Alex had been awake in the night with teething (Her DH had done all the getting up so he was knackered too). Maybe they will give her something help her sleep.

Can someone remind me how many gels they do before moving to syntocin? When I was induced it only took one pessary to get contractions. It's just that they were rubbishy contractions that were very close together but not very effective.

I understand Amber about the excitement now . Can't remember it being an official symptom of pregnancy, but you never know (fingers crossed)

SpiderWilliam · 14/10/2009 18:18

Essie do you know Professor David Crystal? He was on TV last night. onlyatheory I thought your paths may have crossed at some point.

DebInAustria · 14/10/2009 19:37

OMG - the waiting is endless, can you imagine what we'll be like as prospective Grandmothers awaiting babies!!!! Hope Bill's on his way now Sponge

Amberc · 14/10/2009 20:10

they can only induce her for so long right before they have to resort to a section?

bitofadramaqueen · 14/10/2009 20:19

Only time to lurk and check in on Sponge situation. Waves madly at everyone else before starting this evening's revision.

Can only think of rubbish names for Penguin.

neenz · 14/10/2009 20:22

It is beyond exciting waiting for Bill!

Amber, I need to step away from the conception threads too. I have convinced myself I have a luteal phase defect now. I have read that under 12 days can be a problem, mine is 10 days, although this month seemed to be longer as my period was late. I think I will give it one more month then go see the doc. You can get progesterone gel or something to lengthen the LP (or you can take Clomid - eek!). Good luck to you this month!

neenz · 14/10/2009 20:26

PP, why not something completely different like Ryderonthestorm or is that a bit too easily identifiable?

SpiderWilliam · 14/10/2009 20:46

Text from Sponge saying that they will break her waters in the morning as nothing is happening. "Bill is proving to be as stubborn as his Mum" is her exact comment.

ktpie · 14/10/2009 20:47

Mum has just set off home and we didn't have any arguments! It's a miracle!
We went out for lunch yesterday to the gourmet delight that is Ikea, J loved his mini fish and chips, then we ambushed the bargain man as well and got a pile of reduced crap we don't need. Had an afternoon out at Denby Pottery today, went to a cookery demonstration, J enjoyed testing the demonstration muffins, at the end Mum elbowed her way into the throng of people wanting to buy all the lemon zesters, silicone trivets etc that had been demonstrated but amazingly managed to come away without buying anything. I ate too much cake and now can't move on the sofa.
Time now to catch up with what's been going on.

Sybil - think this has been mentioned but is there any way of extending your current house to accommadate a study? Did you see that programme about home improvements where a woman got a shipping container put in her garden as a studio? Might be a bit big though, and possibly not too attractive.

Goingto - I don't think I can claim I pushed him out, he was more dragged out by force by a whole load of doctors pulling on him with some forceps, what lovely memories.

Debs - it's a bit exciting over your way with snow and possible offers!

Penguin - the delights of piles! Mine never seemed to get that big but apparently were internal as well as external and bloody painful. Last time I had them for about 5-6 months after the birth so feeling a bit miserable that I will have them for the forseeable future.

Amber - glad you got the parcel. Love the treehouse, can we all come round to play?

Penguin - yep cat and dog and she was most put out that the dog wasn't allowed on the sofa.

Surely there are lots of natural causes that can kill you at any age? Undiagnosed heart problems like the cervical cancer jab girl the other week and lots of other things I can't think of examples of right now.

It's all go on 6th Nov! How exciting!

Penguin - can we come to NZ with you? Glad it went well with your Father, good that you got to see him before you go. Rubbish about your back.

Would agree on the house buying/selling debate that now seems to be a fairly good time, looks like the market is picking up, my Mum has just sold her house fairly quickly, but prices don't seem to be going up too much yet.
For what it's worth I'm glad we have managed to make the move recently, has meant we are incredibly skint now but at least we have a house we can grow into, unlike the previous one which was bulging at the seams.

Ignoring the teeth discussion as so far J is sticking to his decision to only have 2 teeth, ever.

Spider - what was his theory? I was watching that last night, did you see it the week before with the bloke with the tremendous beard?

Hello to everyone else!

Excited for Sponge, going to have to keep checking for updates!

vivaGlasvegas · 14/10/2009 20:53

Viva's special columbo style investigation into the very sad demise of Stephen Gately

[viva puts on the special hat which she has made, just for Essie]

firstly, top marks to neenz in the tabloid interpretation of medical facts quiz, as she rightly guessed that natural causes means no one did for you and you didn't do for yourself on purpose or by accident.

secondly a special well done to Amber for garnering lots of useful info from the press for us.

According to the autopsy results, SG had pulmonary oedema. This is (as amber said) fluid accumulating in the lungs. The most common cause of PO is a cardiac problem, these are very unusual in a previously well man with no heart problems that are known about. There are also 'non-cardiogenic' causes of pulmonary oedema - that is, those not related to the heart. These include aspiration (drowning or inhaling gastric contents) adverse reaction to drugs (prescribed or not) kidney failure, neurogenic causes(like seizures or head injury)and even ascent to high altitude.

I therefore conclude that SG drowned at high altitude after banging his head and taking illicit drugs.

class dismissed.

[viva thinks that perhaps being Columbo isn't going to be a good career move for her]

seriously though, sounds most likely that he aspirated, so sad

I have to admit that it's a big bugbear of mine when celebrities die and they say something like he died of 'cancer'. I want more specifics, not least because this helps propagate the fear of a diagnosis of any kind of cancer. There are many cancer diagnoses that have extremely good prognoses but people can't hear past the C word as it's so frightening.

i have gone on a bit haven't I? sorry.!
[viva firmly removes her special hat, which, as I'm sure you asked, definitely has some tassles, sequins and a bobble on.]

go sponge Penguin I like spider's idea of you being a kakapo, glad meeting your Dad went well.

puree like the egg story!

deb any more news on the viewers?

rolf I LOLed at your adult wendy house of horror in the garden!

vivaGlasvegas · 14/10/2009 21:14

wow, that's the longest post I've ever written. sorry!

Whinegums it's called Kidzworld, it's at junction 11 off the M8. you can see it on the left just before the junction.

Essie3 · 14/10/2009 21:14

Anybody texted Sponge? I stopped because I worried that her phone was bleeping endlessly and she was trying to push out a baby... (or maybe not...)

Amber I also have this morbid fascination with Stephen Gateley's death! Where's Viva? We need her now! I think neenz has a good point - choking on vomit isn't very natural! But also agree that the prayer position on the sofa (in his pyjamas) was odd - main point, why wasn't he in bed?? Strange.

Spider I don't know David Crystal personally, but I know of him - read his work, he's linked to the English dept at Bangor (I have 2 friends there) and he lives in Holyhead. I'm not into linguistics in a big way (i.e. no skills or qualifications in it!) but I have it in the back of my mind that he's on the fringes, perhaps for controversial views? I could be wrong though. His books are interesting.

Ktipe Iestyn has 4 teeth and has had for ages, but no more. Glad things went ok with your mum. Just an observation - do you go to Ikea quite a lot? (Not judging you - I secretly love Ikea and I go every time I'm in London... Why is it fun? It should be hell. And how come I can always buy something?)

Neenz what on ^earth is a luteal phase defect?! I think you're right to see your GP if it doesn't work next month. Amber* on random symptoms, when I was pg both times, before I even took the test, I noticed that I was sitting oddly! I was sitting all sort of stiff, and instead of sitting back in my chair, I wasn't touching my back IYKWIM. It wasn't deliberate, I just noticed it at a meeting at work and it was something I couldn't help somehow. That was both times. Very odd.

Penguin from Spider's lead, RyderinRohan? Or RyderOfRohan. The Riders of Rohan are in LOTR, and also it was filmed in NZ...

Poppy stay well! Puree lol at the eggshell cake, but I have a Magimix too - you could have just blitzed it for long enough and it would have pulverized it... I made a lovely cake last week, Nigella's Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake. It was too dense - wasn't cooked through. But I ate it just the same.

poppy34 · 14/10/2009 21:16

she was bored last time I texted here essie and worried about missing deal or no deal so I'd text away -lets face it if she is pushing bill out she won't be texting.

do you think we should have a new thread in honour of bill's arrival - as he is the first youngest sibling it would be appropriate to mark the occasion.

Essie3 · 14/10/2009 21:31

LOL, DOND versus birth of second son...

poppy34 · 14/10/2009 21:36

perhaps we shoudl text and suggest noel is a good name for a boy?
