Struggling to load pages these days and saw we were over the 900 so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bitofadramaqueen · 12/10/2009 14:26

Quick post. S has been asleep for about an hour and a half and has had no lunch yet .

X Factor - I thought Kandy Rain were pretty abysmal, but tbh didn't think Rachel was all that. Why did they make them wear Saturday's outfits again on Sunday though? They all got changed into Sat night's outfits half way through Sunday's show. There were two Stacey's in the final 24 and one was the one from S Club Juniors. Did they both make it to the final 12? The ditzy single mum Stacey isn't from S Club Juniors is she?

Amber that's soooo annoying about your stuff from Debenhams. When was it delivered? I'd go round and say, 'hey, I hear you accepted a delivery for me, can I have it please?'.

Oh, he's awake - I'd better go. WAves to everyone else!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 12/10/2009 14:46

Amber I would also go and ask for the delivery!

Ktpie How big was your first baby? Second ones are usually bigger but they generally come out more easily.

I was glad Kandy Rain went, awful outfits! I am ashamed to admit it but I actually enjoyed watching the twins, rubbish singers but entertaining.

A firend was supposed to be filming me and my family on sunday, it was to be used as stock footage for a news channel. DP has never been so grateful to SG as the camera had to go to Majorca. I haven't told him that my friend has rearranged it for next weekend.

DS is still a bad sleeper. No full night sleeps here. I am still bfing and co-sleeping so I'm sure once that stops he will be better. SPider DD2 didn't like sleeping in her cot so I once decided to let her cry it out. SHe was probably about 14 months, screamed for 2 hours with me comming in every so often and just woulod not lie down, she was so tired that she did nod off for very short periods but managed to stay standing!

Amberc · 12/10/2009 15:34

I would go round there BDQ but he lives in Luxembourg and uses our old flat as his UK base. I've emailed him with my fingers crossed.

SW - I really laughed when I read about Peter standing up for three hours!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 12/10/2009 16:11

Fingers crossed Amber. you never know, maybe he has a cleaner or something who accepted it without knowing any better?

Hopeful thoughts for all the pg ladies - my sil kept getting told the (her 2nd) baby was quite big, but he was only 7lb 2oz when born. Light as a feather .

Has anyone got the finger paints out at home yet? What do you put the paint in? I've had some for a while but not been brave enough to get them out yet. But the cold weather means I need to star thinking of some more indoor activities to stop S getting bored and driving me crazy (like he is this afternoon).

Sorry have forgotten everything else I read earlier. Oh viva congrats on the exam passes!

PiggyPenguin · 12/10/2009 17:37

BDQ we have tried paints but J hated getting his hands in it. We put the paints on paper plates that we just threw away afterwards. Next time we are going to try him with a big chunky paint brush and see if he likes that any better. I am also planning to get him one of those aquadraw things for christmas as he has a bad habit of pencilling on the floor in the lounge. When we tell him off he tries to shift the blame onto the pencil by pointing to it and telling it off in a 'it made me do it' kind of a way. Cheeky little sod!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 12/10/2009 17:56

I bought ds some finger paints from ELC. I just took the lids off and gave him the lot. He spent far more time taking the lids off and on and stacking the pots than he did painting! DP has let him play with playdough and it's a big hit with him apprentley.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 12/10/2009 17:57

Puree Hope the scan went well today.

pureeandpearls · 12/10/2009 19:03

God, what an afternoon. Had forgotten what it's like to try and park anywhere near the hospital at 2pm......in short, scan a bit deflating (baby uncooperative so was sent for a walk twice, placenta low-lying etc) so heading back in two weeks to complete it. Added to which it turns out I need a 28 week scan anyway because of an issue with my bloods at the 1 week scna. Nobody would clear it up which has me worried. They 'think it might' be a girl, which is not exactly defnitive so all in all a fairly disappointing day.

Finger paints- have only painted Pocket Dictator's hands with the paint and then let her play with paper iyswim, though when I picked her up from nursery they said they had done floor painting. In their nappies. She was covered. And that is why she goes to nursery- I don't do full-on messy activities [polishes bad mother award]

OP posts:
ktpie · 12/10/2009 20:00

Just a quick post to say finger paints I think giving J a crayon is rather risky! Might try play dough.

Not going too bad with my Mum so far, probably shouldn't speak too soon.

Puree - can you speak to your midwife and find out what the issue is with your bloods? It's not good that they have given you that to worry about with no proper explanation.

Goingto - he was 9lb 2 1/2 oz, hope you are right about the second ones coming out easier, think J's problem was that he was essentially looking in the wrong direction so his head didn't fit through quite as it should. Hope the next one is a bit more co-operative.

Better go. Hi to everyone!

DebInAustria · 13/10/2009 06:37

Puree - shame about the scan

Spider - I wouldn't have thought that Peter would have stood for 3 hours, how did he sleep last night? How will you cope if he loses the daytime sleeps?

Ktpie - hope it's going OK with your Mum, I had it last week when my Dad came, I think he still thinks I'm 12 years old.

Sponge - how are you today?

Snowing here today - 1st snow, it will have to melt though, we're not ready! Boys are VERY excited.Off to physio now for my knee, hope I don't fall asleep like last week!

neenz · 13/10/2009 10:26

Debs, what do you need to do to be ready for the snow? Did you get any feedback from those viewers you had?

Amber, I am sure the guy who signed for your package will give it to you. He doesn't sound like some low life who would sign for a package of baby things and then refuse to hand them over.

Finger paints No no no . Maybe when they are 15 they can have finger paints.

Spider - don't worry about P, they are little buggers at this age, so bloody-minded . He probably just stood there and dropped off now and then - like you said he didn't fall asleep in the car so probably just wasn't tired. I would continue to leave him - the DTs just chat and play in their cots now, in morning and when we put them to bed. We put them to bed at 6.40pm last night, Esther went to sleep at 8.30pm but she didn't cry, just played with her teddy, stood up, sat down, lay down, chatted... Theo was alseep pretty quickly so she was just chatting to herself. I think because I have always been inclined to leave them they know now that there is no point screaming their heads off (if they do I know there really is something wrong)

Me and Dh were in bed at 9.30pm last night too cos we were feeling tired, it would have been great except the burglar alarm went off at 12.15am. I sent DH down to turn it off, afaik it just went off for no reason, but then I lay awake worried about what would happen if someone got in and where they might get in and you hear horrible stories don't you of people being attacked in bed . Anyway managed to get back to sleep eventually (and locked all the windows this morning - better late than never). Then the police knocked on the door to say a house down the road had been burgled last night They'd got in through an open window (not just unlocked, actually open), but a really small window upstairs (so small I would have thought it was not possible to climb through). I am never leaving the windows open again! I used to leave the twins' windows open at night sometimes kif it was hot thinking no one would be able to climb in them. How wrong can you be

ktpie · 13/10/2009 10:41

Neenz - how worrying, do you think they had tried to get in to your house too?

Mum is walking the dog, still no rows yet! She even made me a cup of tea yesterday.

Spider - some of the positions I find J in I do wonder how he was when he fell asleep, stood up, sat down, who knows? A couple of times I have been sure he was asleep as he had been quiet for ages, peeped in and he is just sat there staring into space, makes me feel a tad guilty!

Amber - I hope you get your parcel back, how annoying. We had a delivery man trying to deliver something for the woman who used to live here last week but obviously I told him it wasn't me and he took it away. Perhaps it was a cleaner or someone who wasn't sure.

Essie3 · 13/10/2009 10:58

Oh no, Neenz, that's my worst fear. I'm always really jumpy when I'm alone at night. (Mainly because there was a horrid murder here a few years back.) TBH I'd just give a burglar all my money than anything else, but around here it's all drugs and they're always weird.
Spider (and also ktpie and others!) I put Iestyn down in the evening and walk away normally - usually no crying. So I thought he went to sleep immediately. Until the other night! I went in because I'd forgotten to set up the baby monitor, and jumped out of my skin because he was lying there, eyes open, and smiled when I walked in! It was 30 minutes or more after I'd put him down! Maybe he does this every night.
My sister famously went to sleep standing up. She was a difficult child (heh heh) and refused to sit down in the car. After a v. long battle (pre-car seats!) my mum had enough and said 'we're going', and Gwenno still refused to sit down but was standing up in the back of the car leaning her elbows on the headrest of the front passenger seat. She eventually fell asleep standing up. (I remember this quite clearly!) She was a very determined child. Obviously.

Deb hope the knee is ok, and so exciting about the snow!

Amber I hope you get your parcel. I wonder who signed for it? Have you tried being tough with the company you ordered from? You could cancel your payment, I think - their contract is to supply you with stuff, for money. They haven't done that. (Delivery drivers can be quite bad though...)

Sybil lol at the pencilling...and the excuse! I'm with puree on this one - Iestyn can paint at nursery. He doesn't get felt tips either - he did find a biro (closed) at mum and dad's, and tried to draw on the curtains and the wallpaper. How did he know? Quite bizarre, it's an in-built response clearly, very primitive.

Crap! I've got 2 hours lectures starting in...3 minutes! Got to go, whoops!

PiggyPenguin · 13/10/2009 10:58

Hi all, How scary Neenz, do you think they which tried a few of your windows to set off the alarm? I never leave the kids windows open during the night 'cos I'm paranoid. I leave our windows open (bedroom + ensuite) and then all the doors open so the cold air circulates. If dh is away they all stay shut and we all swelter! Its madness really as I don't know anyone on our street who has ever been burgled.

Dh is looking at houses and wants to move. I am really happy where we are and don't want to move. I can see his point, as he needs a study (now that J has the fourth bedroom) and we could do with moving closer to the good secondary schools to give the kids a better shot at getting in. But, I don't want to move. I really like my house, and J was born in the kitchen so I feel incredibly emotionally attached to it. Also dh wants to move to a big house and stretch our mortgage as far as possible which I feel anxious about. He has a really good job and is looking at a promotion in the next couple of years so a big mortgage now should become ok then. Am I being really unfair to try to talk him out of it? The thing is, its probably a good move for everyone else. Two of my good friends live on our road though, we all walk to school together and do teas at each other house and I really like that. I'm being selfish aren't I? Give it to me straight, I can take it!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 13/10/2009 11:51

Sybil I would feel the same as you. It sounds as if you have everything you need a tthe moment, I would try to put him off for a while.

Neenz That does sound frightening.

Puree How frustrating to leave your scan with more questions than aswers. I ope the next two weeks spped by.

Ktpie I definatley thing position has a lot to do with ease of getting baby out. DS was also facing the wrong way and there is no way I could have pushed him out like that. Thankfully he turned and just flew out. I really admire you for managing to get him out like that!

DebInAustria · 13/10/2009 15:04

sybil - I can see why you don't want to move - how about a loft conversion?

Neenz - what a scary night, but at least you have an alarm.

Essie - the knee is getting better thanks and the new physio is very nice

Ktpie - how's the mum situation? My ds2 was smaller than ds1, but then Ethan was bigger than both of them.

Spider - did P have a better night?

Neenz - to get ready for winter we need to change the tyres on the car, check the snow chains, dismantle the trampoline and store that with all summer garden toys, get out all the sledges and snow clearing stuff, made a start today by taking down all my window boxes and getting rid of the flowers.

Viewing update - she keeps e-mailing questions, so I contacted the agent today to see what's happening and apparently she might be making an OFFER Nigel has gone into panic mode now on what needs doing!

neenz · 13/10/2009 15:33

Debs that is so exciting! Fingers crossed (any chance you will get out before you have to do all that snow stuff? )

Puree, forgot to say before about the scan - hopefully they are not too worried if they are waiting till 28 weeks to scan you, did I get that right? And you have another scan in 2wks to finish off the anomaly scan...? How frustrating.

I think the burglar alarm going off was just coincidence actually cos i don't think messing with the windows would set it off, only opening them, and none were opened. The back gate was still closed and locked too so no one had been in the back garden. I was very scared tho cos we didn't put the alarm back on in case it went off again . I would just let them take whatever they wanted to as long as they didn't touch me, DH or the kids .

Sybil, I would want to stay put too. DH would like to move somewhere bigger but I just can't be bothered with the upheaval. And the costs involved eg removals, stamp duty, estate agents fees etc - we could build an extension/convert the loft for not much more. Could you do the loft? I also think you are much better off with a few hundred pounds extra in the back every month rather than a bigger mortgage iyswim! Don't stretch yourself.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 13/10/2009 15:54

Thanks for support re: scan. Think I was just hacked off about the experience and worried about how to fit all these extra scans in without having to take Pocket Dictator.............

Neenz- how scary. The worst thing about burglar alarms is the worry that comes when they activate...could you get window locks that secure the windows when they are open?

Sybil- I'd want to stay put though totally get DH's logic. Of course not necessarily an easy time to move at the moment, so you could always go with it and see what happens- he may give up!

Debs- great news about knee [puree does not mention O word for fear of jinxing but is keeping eberything crossed.]

Have changed to Halloweeny name. Bit excited about it.

[eats another piece of chocolate whilst she wonders whether Sponge has anything to report....]

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 13/10/2009 17:38

Debs fingers crossed you get an offer.

Love the new name P&P. I'm also looking forward to halloween as we are having a party for the kids. I cooked some pumpkin this weekend and saved the seeds for the kids to plant.

SpiderWilliam · 13/10/2009 17:53

News from Sponge . Got a text at 3.30 which reads:

Went to hospital last night cos hadn't felt Bill move for a while. He was absolutely fine, but my BP, bloods, protein all cause for concern so docs decided not to leave it any longer and induce me today! They're not in any rush so Bill may not make an appearance till Thurs/Fri. We'll keep you posted.

So, I guess that is good news because she was desperate for an induction and she is now 38 weeks (just about). Exciting times....

poppy34 · 13/10/2009 18:21

Exciting news all round re sponges text debs potential offer. Neenz that is scary but at least alarm worked. We had spate of ours going off cos one of internal doors setting it off but was scary til we realised why set it off. Purée how annoying re scan- 28 week one may be to check re placenta operation as I had one at same stage. It just gives them heads up if you need extra monitoring for last bit.

Sybil - I can see your dh logic and yours but move wouldn't be so far from where you are now. Also more space might make up for hassle of moving.

Better go as being cuddled - e been off her food ad bit of a poo monster (nice treat to have poo covered cot and baby this am) so needs extra attention.

Amber did you chase up your parcel?

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 13/10/2009 18:47

OMG- potential baby? Eeek! Spider- keep us posted!!!

Amber- meant to say that DH said if evil man (or anyone else for that matter) signed for parcel even though not addressed to him with intent to keep contents it is actually theft and he can be prosecuted.

[waves to Poppy]

vivaGlasvegas · 13/10/2009 20:28

Am knackered after a very active day, not much to say but am v excited about potential thread baby!

GOOD LUCK SPONGE

PenguinProject · 13/10/2009 20:49

Evening! Just catching up, bear with the multiple posts, gonna do a page at a time...

Neenz - I'm just getting really close to my sister again just before I move to the other side of the world. But TBH with email and skype, we'll be able to talk so often. Not the same as being there, especially watching babies grow up, but it makes for great holdiays. My bro is moving to Brisbane next year, so the vast majority of Ryder's family is going to be on that side of the world. I'm also amazed at your restraint in not doing a test (only caught up as far at Sat eve)!

Goingto - Roald Dahl theme is great - well done you on the costumes.

BDQ - Hope you're feeling better.

Puree - where are those halloween emoticons!!??

Viva - LOL at drs hat discussion.

Re: baby vocab, Ryder said bum today. I am so proud.

Sorry to hear about the sleepness nights.

KTPie - Ouch at the piles. I remember them vividly, coupled with getting so big that wiping my own bum was an acrobatic feat as it was. TMI?

Ok, next page.

DebInAustria · 13/10/2009 20:52

Oh I am so excited about sponge's news, thanks for keeping us informed Spider.

No news here yet, still snowing though, last week my Dad was sunbathing on our balcony, can't believe how quickly it has changed.
