Hope you don't mind the dodgy thread name but all our babies are 9 months old now or in the next few weeks

WG As much as your MIL drives you insane, the stories you bring back are classic!!

DS2 also woke at exactly 5.55 this morning, which is also a lie in for us as it is normally 5.30 when he wakes.

We had something a bit strange happen last night. When we went to be we were chatting as DH got ready for bed. He said "Freddie" and we both swear that DS2 said "Freddie" back. We checked and both boys seemed fast asleep. It certainly sounded like DS2 rather than DS1.

EffiePerine · 29/10/2009 16:02

I thought I'd lost you all, turned out you'd scarpered to the bottom of the page!

Lovely to see some of you at lunchtime, sorry I had to run off back to work. Aren't our babies getting big? They are all gorgeous as well . Before you know it they'll be toddlers

WG: bet you're glad to be home! My mum does the reinventing history/elbowing herself into the centre of attention thing too. Drives me nuts.

Another dreary waking night last night - is there a 10 mo growth spurt I've forgotten about? Maybe DS2 is getting ready to haul himself up to standing properly? Who knows. We are all tired and cross. But I have reinstated porridge in the mornings and had a cosy (though quick) early breakfast with DS1 before I got my train, which was nice. He got sent to bed with no tea last night thanks to a massive screaming tired meltdown (supper was late and he was too upset to eat, so bunged upstairs with a glass of milk)

TheInvisibleHand · 29/10/2009 17:03

Hope those of you who had the meet-up had a lovely time. Sorry I couldn't make it this time and especially sorry to have missed the chance to meet you veggie before you head off to more exciting climes.

WG - you're just getting me in the frame of mind - my MIL arrives tomorrow! Although I don't think she can match yours mentalism...

JollyBear · 29/10/2009 20:07

Hello everyone,

beans Congratulations! That is fantastic news . Our first dec 08 mum to be a mum to be again!! Has it sunk in for your DH yet?

veggie So sorry to hear about your stepdad. Your poor mum . I wish I could do something or say something that could help .

I chuckled at the idea of mending hems with selotape - you can buy special iron on stuff for those not skilled with a needle!

Daisy Sorry to hear about your MIL. Don't worry about having said some less than complimentary things about her on here. You can be sad someone is poorly but not like things they do or say. Your blackpool trip sounded scarily like one I went on as a child. My dad was shouting at us to wake up when we nodded off! I also remember my mum handing out packets of Jackets crisps while we were stuck in a traffic jam. Not sure why that sticks in my mind so much!

Re stairgates, we have one at the top of the stairs that just swings across with no bar. We have one between the kitchen bit of the open plan area too. They are a bugger to fit though. I like to think of myself as rather nifty with flatpack furniture and the like and I was really struggling.

trace I love the wedding story!

WG Glad to hear things weren't as awful as predicted for your FIL. Your MIL is one on her own. Fancy putting air freshners everywhere, poor chap can't help it!

We have just all had that D and vomiting virus. I have felt dreadful for ages now with various low level but energy snapping illnesses. spot Someone warned me about being ill all the time with children too -if these last few weeks are anything to go by it is all true. Urgh! We're on the mend now though apart from DD still has explosive bowels. I have NEVER done so much washing.

MN is very weird for me at the moment - is it like this for everyone, weird gaps and white spaces? Strange, spooky maybe

Kayzr · 30/10/2009 07:07

Morning,

Had a horrible day yesterday. I went for a walk with the boys and we had lunch at the train station. On the way home Freddie was walking nicely and holding my hand. As soon as we were almost home(probably about 25 feet from the door) he ran off. He ended up going up the ramp to neighbours front door. He then fell off the ramp and smashed his face on the floor. He has cut all his nose and split his lip quite badly. My poor baby

Hope you are all ok.

daisydora · 30/10/2009 07:31

oh kayz poor Freddie, how is he this morning?

wg your MIL story had me nearly wetting myself! Absolutely priceless..."tuppence"

How was the meet yesterday? I just want to say Bon Voyage to veggie. If you dare stop posting I'll be over to Holland hunting you down!! But really I hope the move goes smoothly, and the boys are good for you.

We are off to Scotland tomorrow morning, so packing and ironing today for me. I went to see my nan yesterday, she starts Chemo on Monday and the woman leaves me slightly amazed. She never stops cups of tea and sandwiches for everyone non stop, cakes and treats for the kiddies. Then he whips out a new outfit to ask did I think it would be suitable and comfortable enough for the hospital, and what shoes should she wear. I really hope my MIL can remain as positive and focused as my Nan.

Right packing....

Kayzr · 30/10/2009 07:50

He is fine this morning, but just tried to have cheese spread and marmite on toast and the marmite hurt his mouth. So going to watch what we feed him so it doesn't aggrevate his cut lip.

traceface · 30/10/2009 11:45

hello
Kayz poor Freddie. Hope he soon recovers.
JB MN is looking a little odd for me too. Sorry you've all been poorly - just think of all the immunity dd must be building up!
dd your nan is an inspiration. How is your dh doing?
Today Lucy has one of her old nursery friends round to play. We're about to have a picnic in a den in the lounge, then we're going to be grown up ladies and I'm taking them to the Thornton's cafe for a treat . It's obviously entirely to treat them and nothing at all to do with me wanting a chocolate fix and always having walked past the window of that cafe , looked longingly at the chocolate fountain in the window, then not allowed myself in. Not that at all.
Tomorrow we're off to Crowborough in Sussex for a family gathering. It's my dad's side of the family who live down there and we've only seen them once since Lu was born, and they've obviously never met P. I'm really excited about seeing that half of the family, but I'm totally dreading the journey. We're thinking it'll be a good 8 hours in the car, with various stops for P and L. P is not a great traveller and L HATES it when P cries, so I dread to think how pooped and fraught we'll all be when we get there. Then there's a lovely walk planned and a long evening meal, a slow breakfast on Sunday morning...then a massive drive back home again. We're going to pack the car tonight then just get up and go as soon as the girls wake up - about 6am probably - so we can hopefully get a good chunk of the journey done in the morning. Then we have to take L to my ILs on the way home on Sunday for a sleepover, because she's not in school on Monday but dh and I are both in work. Life is complicated sometimes isn't it?!
Just realised that that whole waffle was probably not only highly dull for you all, but also rather insensitive when so many of you have bigger things to fill your minds.
sorry.
right picnic time.
Will be back on MN on Monday I imagine...hope you all have good weekends.
xxx

JollyBear · 30/10/2009 20:17

Hello all,

Don't be daft trace, you are not waffling! I'd be dreading a long journey too and I only have one DD! Hope things work out well and L and P are happy travellers.

kayz Hope F is on the mend now. Poor little chap.

daisy Your nan sounds like such a character. She will be the most glam lady there! I'll be thinking of her next week. Hope you have a fun holiday!

I meant to say in my last post, veggie I hope the move goes well. I'm really glad I got to meet you at the York meet up. Don't forget about us all will you!

I need some opinions on a dilemma concering the swine flu vaccine. I have been offered it, and will be having it, as my immune system is comprimised because of my post-transplant drugs. However DH and DD have been offered it too because they live with me. I don't really understand the logic of that since as I'll be having the vaccine - perhaps veggie or trace will know. But as DD is normal and healthy and not at any greater risk of being ill than anyone else, should I let her have it? I'm very pro vaccine usually but because it is such a new drug and she is so tiny I'm just not sure. If anyone has any ideas do let me know.

It has been quiet on here today, hope everyone is out having fun!

LadyThompson · 31/10/2009 14:44

Hi Jolly. My uninformed twopennyworth is that if I was in your boots, I would have it and not let DD have it, for precisely the same reasons as you suggest.

This isn't my proper catch up but I wanted to say it was lovely to see a few people on Thursday but ultimately I find those occasions a little frustrating as I really want to have a proper chat with everyone and it gets a bit snatched. I need to seal everyone in a box for a couple of hours and fire questions at them! Nice to see you off, Veggie.

Hope Daisy and Trace are having good trips and I will be on at some point this weekend to catch up, but the next month is going to be tough for mumsnetting as I am really busy finishing stuff off. But it's only a temporary thing!

Oh, and Katie, we are staying at the Pyramisa Isis - I doubt it's as nice as the Meridien but I am anxious to hear your tales and tips, even the scary one (which I have a hunch might involve a rat but I could be wrong....)

Oh and I took DD for drinks at the Soho Hotel early Thursday evening and DD was so good, quietly eating cocktail snacks, the staff gave her a present (a really nice padded book). They were fantastic.

Have super weekends all. I am cheerfulness free this weekend. Everyone looked really slim at the meet up and I looked really fat and it has concentrated my mind wonderfully...

KiwiPanda · 31/10/2009 20:09

Evening all. I am hiding in the bedroom from trick or treaters and generally saying "bah humbug" in the direction of Halloween. yes, I know, wrong seasonal grumpiness, but hey, I'm sleep deprived. I worked out this afternoon that my last decent nights sleep was the beginning of October and the last few nights have been grim. I give up asking myself why. I have decided instead that DD is a small but very talented scientist conducting experiments into the effects of sleep deprivation on parents. When my back is turned she scribbles furiously on her clipboard, making notes.

Possibly.

Anyway it was lovely to meet up on Thursday, agree with you LadyT that these things never give enough opportunity for one-on-one chats but I'm glad there were still a few of you around when I came back from my lunch! Veggie it was particularly lovely to meet you and your gorgeous boys before you head off, hope the move goes swimmingly for you and keep posting!

Will catch up more tomorrow when I get a lie in because DH FINALLY has a day off work.

Rubena · 31/10/2009 20:38

Hello,
Kiwi I too am hiding, actually I've taken it one step further and taken the batteries out of the doorbell as it sets off the dog, then the dog might wake ds
DH is doing 48 hours at work straight which is quite rare, but it has kept me both bored stupid and also quite busy at times.
DS woke up sneezing and runny nosed, and although it hasn't seemed to affect him (except he keeps sniffing and blowing as he is facinated by the noise of his snot) I fear he could wake up through the night all conjested etc.... I actually just heard him.... ssh... ok seems to have settled....
Also so lovely to meet up on Thursday and to finally meet you Veggie. What lovely cute well mannered boys you have
Hope the move goes well!
I also agree - hard to get to chat to everyone.....

Rubena · 31/10/2009 20:39

sorry my spelling / typing was awful!!

Rubena · 31/10/2009 20:41

Conjested - lol

katie3677 · 31/10/2009 21:26

Just a quickie as we have friends down from London for the weekend, which is lovely but also quite exhausting at the same time, they are also sooooo bloody precious with their DD that it is driving me mad, but ho hum. LadyT I think Iremember the Isis, which looked really nice. I'll fill you in on things to do/ see via a FB message, and also on the scariness, which didn't involve a rat, but a very scary Egyptian man who took us to his house, got us stoned and we were then convinced that he was going to kill us! Last time I went anywhere near gear!
Hope everyone is having good weekends x

Rubena · 31/10/2009 21:30

as predicted - woken, crying, coughing, spluttering then vomit, right on time since dh not here. he's so sad, but can't get any medicine down him

Rubena · 31/10/2009 21:31

Rubena · 31/10/2009 21:31

oops.... MN is messed up....

Aubergines · 31/10/2009 22:45

Hi Everyone,

A real quickie to get myself back on the thread. I can't follow you on my iPhone anymore because DD1 did a wee on it!! Seriously, right on it. How could potty training be such a breeze and then six months later go so badly wrong???

Anyway, just wanted to say a huge congrats to Beans (I used to be another "A" vegetable beans). I am so excited that we are starting on the second generation of the thread!

Also wanted to say sorry to Veggie that I missed the meet-up and the chance to meet before you leave our shores. I wish I could have been there.

Rubena I hope your night gets better tonight. Your poor DS .

I have much more to say but am too tired to say it.

Night all. xxx

TheInvisibleHand · 01/11/2009 20:50

Kayz - hope Freddie is doing OK.

JB - As far as your dilemma goes, I think I'd try to get them to explain why they think its a good idea for the whole family should have the vaccine. I don't think the vaccine is that risky in itself - its basically the same kind of thing as the regular seasonal flu vaccine, which is pretty well understood. But on the other hand, no point dosing her up needlessly.

Rubena - hope you got a better night and DS is feeling better.

Aub - sorry to be amused, but that's quite a notable end for an iphone! Bit worried to hear potty training can go backwards that spectacularly. DD is still doing fine, but has suddenly taken against going on the toilet, which is a bit of a nuisance.

Had a very uncharacteristic screamathon from DS this evening before he settled to sleep. He's normally fine, but he managed to blow all his naps and get thoroughly overstimulated so I guess a long yell was what he needed to get it out of his system. DD was very sweet about it, telling me he needed a cuddle, food, sleepy music, anything she could think of. Poor love, she was dying to go to sleep herself!

Kayzr · 01/11/2009 21:50

Thanks for all the well wishes for Freddie. He is fine now but sporting a huge graze on the end of his nose. He also keeps giving us dramatic demonstrations of falling over. He will probably do it again soon he does so many demos.

Aubs sorry to hear about your iPhone.

Rubena hope you have a better night.

Hope you are all well.

zoejeanne · 02/11/2009 10:21

Hi everyone, a very quick post from me today - I just wanted to say to Veggie that I've been thinking of you this weekend and hope that the move went well and you're now all busy exploring your new surroundings.

Sorry I can't do more personals, I'm busy with another job application (but the good news is I have an interview next week for the last one I did ) and tomorrow we're going to stay at my Mum and Dads for a few days, but will promise to catch up more thoroughly at the end of the week. Big kisses to all the babies xx

EffiePerine · 02/11/2009 15:40

Good luck for your interview ZJ! I'm sure you'll wow them .

I hope Veggie is having a nice sit down somewhere after her move. It was lovely to meet her DS1 who is a lovely and very well-behaved little boy. I shall be asking for tips later

traceface · 02/11/2009 18:58

Hello!
JB I don't understand why your dh and dd have been offered the vaccine either! I might be being dense but I really can't see why it would be. If you get the vaccine you'll build antibodies, then if you come into contact with the virus (through dd/dh) you'll use your antibodies to protect yourself. Hmm. Perhaps ask whoever it was who suggested it.
veggie hope the move went well and that you've got your supplies of Green and Blacks sorted!
ZJ hope you have a lovely time with your parents - time to switch your brain off from job applications! Hope dd and your mum get on well
Rub how is ds? Hope you had a better night last night.
Well we survived our road trip! The journey down went really well - it took 5.5 hours with 2 stops and minimal crying. We had a fab time there - it was so nice to see my cousins again and for them all to meet my girls. Then the home journey was a bit harder but we lived. Lu slept at her my ILs last night so dh has just gone to get her and Phoebe is asleep, so I'm bonding with the laptop making the packed lunches and sorting out the washing.
I hope everyone is well. Does anyone have photos from the latest meet-up?

JollyBear · 02/11/2009 19:37

Hello everyone,

Well done on the job interview ZJ . That must be such a confidence boost! Have a lovely time with your parents.

invisible, ladyT and trace Thanks for your thoughts on the flu dilemma. I'm going for my normal flu jab tomorrow so I'll ask the practice nurse and if she can't answer my questions, ask for a chat with the dr.

aub Sorry to hear about your phone. DH has dropped not one, but two phones down the toilet and he is a grown man, long toilet trained! DD broke my phone this weekend, I rather stupidly gave it to her to hold , not my brightest move!

trace Glad the trip was such a success!

rub How grim. Hope tonight is better for you. It is so awful when they are ill.

Hope veggie is settling in well.

Right, boring jobs to do. Night all.
