M gets what she's given and if she doesn't eat it, tough! Her sleep doesn't seem to be affected by how much food she eats so I'm not too worried about filling her up. Is S still being a pickle through the night? M blows raspberries with her food, it's great when you end up with a face mask of partially chewed chickpeas..... The book is exciting. Even though the cakes are healthy, I think I'm going to end up being winched out of the front window by the fire brigade.

Oh he's still a shocker MM. But to be fair, he's been sleeping next to me a lot recently, and on the campsite I was worried about him waking up the other campers, so the minute he woke up (which he still does a lot - he sits up and screams while he's still asleep and I think that's what wakes him up) I was sticking him on the boob to keep him quiet, so it became a bit of a habit. But, regardless of where we are, he still wakes every around every hour unless he's in the bed with me when he can go for a bit longer. It's starting to wear me down, to be honest.

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 21:51

Oh no, what a pickle! You must be totally shattered Aubergenie. M does that sitting up wailing thing but not as often as S. Have you tried letting him cry for a while? I know it's hard but it seems like it might be the only way. It worked for Star. I might want to pick CSWS's brains too, I think D is more settled these days.

I am meant to be spending some time with DH tonight but he is currently in a huge sulk. We decided to play Mario Kart on the Wii and I absolutely annihilated him. He stropped off to make tea in a big grump! Ha ha ha! Big baby.

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 21:51

I meant you might want to pick CSWS's brain!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/08/2009 21:52

Awww bless you MM. Thanks but if it's got more than 5 lines it's highly unlikely I'll ever do it

Poppy won't go to sleep tonight, DH currently having a go.

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 21:54

It doesn't look too hard to be honest Hmm. I was thinking of making it on Friday so I will let you know. If it tastes as good as it looks I am sure it will be worth it!

aubergenie · 26/08/2009 22:22

Oh dear, am I the only one left with a rubbish sleeper now?

I really need to get him to spend the whole night in his cot as he hasn't done it for ages. When I was at work I was too tired to be up and down all night so I just brought him in with me so we could all sleep, and since then we've been away and he's been in with us.

MM - What do you do when M does that sitting up crying thing? Do you just leave her to cry until she goes back to sleep?

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 22:28

I think that Pistachio is still up lots in the night. M only does the sitting up thing once or twice in the night so I feed her back to sleep. Recently she was refusing to settle and kept sitting up and that was really frustrating. I have no idea how to get her to settle when she keeps sitting up. She frustrated me so much that I left her to cry for five minutes while I calmed down, then picked her up and she went off to sleep. I think that me going into hospital actually helped as she wasn't getting any milk over-night (between 8pm and 9.30am) so had to settle without it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2009 22:29

lol at dh MM. Did he get an answer re next week btw?

Ds generally only wakes once a night now Aubergenie, unless unwell or teething (so that's about 50% of the time then!). But he does get up a bit too early (for him and me) most days. Last night he fed twice but slept til around 7:40am, which put him in a much better mood. He's had one long sleep (2 hours, in car) the last 2 days too, rather than 2 shorter ones (had just 2 30mins naps the 2 previous days), so am wondering if he's going to manage to change to this schedule most days quite soon. I think that dd went to 1 nap around the same age, maybe even a little earlier.

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 22:47

I have FB messaged you CSWS. DH has calmed down now.....

50ftQueenie · 26/08/2009 22:50

Jenwa - I meant to say, I was a bit disappointed not to have chatted to you more too but we all seemed to get separated a fair few times! Ah well, I am sure there will be other meet ups!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/08/2009 23:12

Poppy only just asleep now. I'm off to bed.

aubergenie · 27/08/2009 07:45

CSWS - S has dropped his afternoon nap over the last few days, and I was wondering whether that's going to continue. (Dp, who is going to be looking after ds on the days when I'm back at work, said he felt physically sick when I suggested it.)

Well S slept in his cot all night last night and didn't come in with us! It was painful though, and we were up for at at least 2 hours in total trying to settle him back in it each time he woke up.

MM- that sitting up thing is frustrating isn't it. Do you think it's developmental? S is sitting up before he's even awake, then seems to get really disorientated. I think you're right about your stay in hospital helping M to sleep. My friend who had the same op as you found exactly the same thing. Her dd was a terrible sleeper, then she went into hospital and her dh and mil were looking after her and came out and she was sleeping brilliantly! She said she didn't dare ask what they'd done.

Hope P lies in for you this morning HMM to make up for the rubbish evening.

jenwa · 27/08/2009 07:54

Morning all

aubergenie sorry ds is not sleeping so well. Can you get him back into his afternoon sleep? I think the more sleep they have the better they sleep at night.

mm yes I am sure we will catch up again

myjob sorry N is not well, poor thing but yeh for the crawling. She is a cutie too. Cant believe she will be 1 next month the time has gone sooooooooooooooo quickly!

50ftQueenie · 27/08/2009 09:06

We haven't seen Loulou for ages! J is very nearly one already! I wonder how they're getting on.....

Aubergenie -M isn't awake when she sits up either. She woke up at 3.30am for a bit of milk and a cuddle & I found her reaching her arms up the side of the cot to pull herself up. She was still fast asleep! Strange little creatures! Maybe you need to leave DP to it for five nights while you go to a spa hotel for a relax.

Oh dear Hmm! What a cheeky monkey! She is such a little sweetie that you would never believe she could be such a pickle. Did she wail for the whole time?

aubergenie · 27/08/2009 09:20

Jenwa - Trouble is, ds has never slept well. I haven't done more than 3 consecutive hours since he was born, and it's been a long time since I've done more than two, so the nap doesn't seem to make a difference. Odd really, as they do say that sleep breeds sleep don't they. To be honest, him not napping has meant that he's gone to bed early for the last few nights and we've actually been able to sit down together in the evening which has felt like a real luxury.

Hi everyone. I wouldn't say Q is a rubbish sleeper compared with S and P, but he's developed a pattern of waking at about 2 or 3 for milk he stays awake for about an hour feeding on and off and then once full, dozes back off to sleep. He goes down between 6.45/7pm each night and wakes a couple of times but I just put dummy in or say "shhh" and he's back to sleep. He's in his cot.
I need to sort out how to get rid of the 3am wake up. I KNOW i know I know I know I know that he just wants milk from me as he doesn't get it from 8-3 and now I've started only giving him morning and evening and DH or my friend gives him a bottle mid day and/or before naps. But, as I'll be stopping bf at 12 months, I can't encourage him to make up for missed time at night. I know some of you will think I'm absolutely horrible for even thinking like this. But I need to sort out how to just get him to sleep through without the early morning feed (I also feed him at 6/6.30am) he drinks it all both times both sides.
He doesn't want the bottle. He can drink from a sippy cup but a lot of it spills down his chin still... not effective for a good milk feed. How can I get that milk feed into him, then? Once I stop bf? How much milk do they need now? And when they are 12 months?

KSal · 27/08/2009 11:48

aubergenie sounds like Emma is doing exactly the same thing as S... if she takes food from the spoon at all she will just push it out of her mouth with her tongue. I don't offer her anything else and she doesn't seem that bothered!!

I think what is happening with her is that she doesn't want to be spoon fed at the moment. She happily feeds herself, but eventually goes a bit crackers if i keep trying to spoon things in.

I actually made a load of fishcake style things she can hold (salmon and sweet potato, chicken and apple and simple veg) and she wolfs them down. DH is quite jealous so i am making fishcakes for everyone when i get home from work tonight!!

obviously if S is BLW then this is a completely useless post!!

star6 · 27/08/2009 12:43

Q is also a lazy eater. He'll open his mouth and put his face toward you rather than grab with his hands 98% of the time. And he'll once in a while grab a bite and put in his mouth but mostly just throws the food and brushes it away from his space instead.

star6 · 27/08/2009 14:14

Hey where is everyone? I'm the one at work, here... ha! Just have a brief minute while kids are walking back from library.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2009 14:16

At least you get a minute to yourself in your job star .

Very very true!!

50ftQueenie · 27/08/2009 17:38

Check up at the hospital wasn't so good. Apparently the cyst was borderline cancerous (which essentially means that it had a small amount of cancerous cells) and could potentially have already spread to other bits of me. I now have to make the decision to either have a high risk of getting cancer in the future and be closely monitored for, well, forever or to have a total hysterectomy. Great!
