Hi!!
Blotted Thats sounds awful but glad DD is ok and I'm sure the scar will fade away over time.

Tummum Scary- my worse nightmare but you are all ok and can now spend time appreciating each other while on holiday.

Pula Your S has a similiar pattern to my R.

Looby Rueben has had a snuffly nose for over a week now. He seems fine otherwise but finds it really hard to feed at night. Do the saline drops work?? Maybe I should get some. I have raised the head of his moses basket and have been using Karvol to try to help him but its not working.

We had a lovey day yesterday. We went to Kensington gardens to the Diana memorial playground with my neighbours. It is so lovely and DD had a ball in the sensory garden, swings and slides and the pirate ship. I would high recommend it to anyone near London. It was so hot though and DD was exhausted and is still catching up today.

DH and I have started a new budget to try to pay off our credit cards and live within our means. hope we can stick to it.

ReeBee · 06/08/2009 18:26

Hello!

Had a lovely chat and coffee (and fab homemade buns) with Momino and Harper - who is just beautiful - this morning. Thanks again Momi. Looking forward to more Northern / York meet ups although am away last two weeks of August, boo (but yay for hols).

Tummum, am not surprised you're shaken. The feeling will pass, we all have narrow escapes; hope you still have a fab holiday.

Grumpy, re moving to France - can you please change your name to Jammyoldcaaaaaaaa ?!

Febes, join the club. Money just runs through my hands like water.

Dandy, Gee, thanks for the compliment. I just hope it's the bits I try to make funny.

Re animal behind the sideboard - DH tells me there's been no sign today and the cats have stopped lying casually nearby in the dining room. Hmmm, just hope it isn't dead. Have started a new regime of locking the cat flap on 'out only' at night so if they go out, they can't come back in. I might not do it in the event of torrential rain, but we shall see.

I had a great afternoon as well - we had an NCT girls meet up and 6 of 8 of us made it, hopefully I'll be able to post some photos of all the babies on FB.

Right, off to make sausage surprise (no jokes, ladies) for DH's dinner. All I know right now is that it will involve sausages. Am still v full from NCT 'ladies what lunch' do.

Oh, Fi, (think it was you?

Reggiee · 06/08/2009 18:42

Blotted just read your blog and nearly made me cry again. Been in tears most of the day since B shuffled upwards and head first out of his pram onto the wooden floor . I think the pram hood (which came off) may have broken his fall, but have spent the afternoon in A&E having examinations by nurse, then paed, then x-ray, then senior paed, then consultant. Horrid horrid horrid. B thankfully has been alert, smiling and cooing at everone and enjoying the attention whereas I have been in bits.

Reggiee · 06/08/2009 18:45

And the moral of the tale is even if your dc can't roll / isn't mobile, they may move more than you think so always strap them in. Sob.

essenceofSES · 06/08/2009 18:51

Hi! Laptop down at the moment (again! ) but lurking via phone.

My parents got a ruby red coloured rose for their 40th wedding anniversary. Not v much but my mum comments every year when it comes into flower and it's planted in the flowerbed just outside their back door.

Had a good morning catching up with NCT girls and babies. O behaved impeccably - full of smiles and chattiness. Then we got home and he's been miserable and clingy all afternoon.

Sorry for not catching up with individual comments. Hopefully have laptop back tomorrow.

LoobyLou36 · 06/08/2009 19:05

febes can heartily recommend the saline drops for snuffly nose - M doesn't like me much when I put them in but her breathing gets better

went to baby sensory today but M's heart wasn't really in it - her tooth is on the move me thinks

Had a surprise visit from DH's aunt today who told me I should be very careful about giving M calpol?
I do not give it all the time - just one dose today cos I could tell M was snuffling and teething

Everyone's got an opinion I know but I did feel as tho she was saying I was doping M up....
His aunt has no children so has obviously missed out on being kept up all night with a sicky, snuffly, teething baby

pulapula · 06/08/2009 19:26

looby- don't worry about the occassional calpol when LO is obviously in pain/discomfort/out of sorts. I gave S some last night as his temp was raised after his jabs, and he had some more today even though he wasn't hot, just obviously under the weather. I do know of a friend of a friend who gave her 2 DCs calpol before bed every night as she struggled to get them to sleep .

sophietom · 06/08/2009 20:32

reggiee and blotted sorry to hear about your scary experiences with your little ones.

tummum hope you enjoying a relaxing break after the eventful start

Reebee and Momino me and Jenn will have to meet up with you at some point - we are in Lancs

Reebee do you think the cat brought the mystery critter in then? Our neighbours cat once bought a live bat in and then released it so it was flapping round their lounge

Can you buy saline drops at the chemist? J is snuffly at the moment and keeps bobbing on and off and spluttering during his feeds
We went to Southport for the day today which was lovely although J didn't seem at all interested Must have tired him out though as he is asleep in his cot and has been since 7.30! Methinks I might be in for an early wakeup call

Belgianchocolates · 06/08/2009 22:08

Evening everyone!

I'm back from my 2 week holiday in France, so claiming name check amnesty as it'll take me days to catch up with events here on mn.

I hope everyone has been well during the last 2 weeks. I also hope that those of you suffering with PND are starting to feel a bit better.

We started our trip like Tummum and did an overnight driving jobbie, luckily for us DH didn't fall asleep. I can't sleep in cars any way, so I kept a good eye on him all the way there. We visited an ex ap for a few days, then moved on to the people who bought our barn in the Dordogne of us (we bought it with big conversion plans, but sold it again after having it for 4 years without even visiting it). Anyway then it was on to a huge campsite with big pools and waterslides for the dcs (C loved being in the water too). Then we changed our original plan and moved our ferry ticket by 2 days so we could drive home slowly over 3 days or so. Lovely and relaxing. One of the nice things of caravaning I suppose.

C was brilliantly behaved during the whole trip. Nothing like the unsettled newborn she was. She's so alert nowadays and learnt 2 new exiting tricks while we were there too. 1) she gave me her first real laugh when I was tickling her
2) she's can now roll onto her side and a few times almost made it onto her front.
Isn't it, how much babies learn in such a short time. Another new thing is that she now looks at me while feeding and stops suckling when I talk to either listen or give me a smile. So cute.

Now I'm going to have a lovely bath and then I'm looking forward to sleeping in a real bed for a change as the caravan bed triggered SPD symptoms in the mornings.

Belgianchocolates · 06/08/2009 22:09

Oh Sophietom I just noticed your post. You can get saline drops from the chemist. They're quite cheap too.

And talking about cats. I haven't seem my cat yet since coming home. I hope she's OK.

Momino · 06/08/2009 22:39

evening all. just off to bed after putting a few things on ebay.

Belgian, welcome back! glad you had a good time.

Reggiee, poor you! I hope you had that beer and hope you've relaxed by now. It happens and B is fine which is the important thing. when dd1 was 5 months I had her in the bouncy chair on a worktop (to keep her away from the dog) but didn't realise she wasn't strapped in (forgot ) and she fell onto the floor head first. she did have a tiny hairline fracture, was kept in overnight but was fine. I feel guilty and sick about it to this day.

sophietom, would love to meet you. Will try to get dates together, probably propose something on FB message but will post here first.

Febes, will you do our finance plan as well? we constantly live beyond our means (me with credit card and too often taking from my dwindling savings) and I'd love to be able to manage better. Hope it works out for you.

off to bed. I hope Harper sleeps tonight but she's got up at 2ish the past 2 nights so hoping that's not her new pattern after sleeping through most of her 1st 3 months. night!

OP posts:
flippineck · 07/08/2009 07:08

Morning all!

Belgian - welcome back. SOunds like a lovely break. Know what you mean about babies being more settled now, A now has quite long spells where she's happy watching everything and 'talking' to herself.

reggiee and blotted - what scary experiences for you both. Hope you are all feeling better now.

I didn't have any bed time fights last night - DD1 fell asleep at the dinner table at 6pm. Managed to get her washed and changed for bed without waking her, and she slept until 6 this morning.

Nothing planned for today, just waiting to hear from a friend. Might be soft play place as it's a bit rainy.

The weather forecast for the weekend is good, maybe we'll get a bit more of a summer for a few days!

Momino · 07/08/2009 07:36

morning!
flippin, how many days left alone? we have nothing planned today either. Looks a bit dull outside at the moment.

Last night was ok, Harper woke just once about 4.30 for a quick feed. I notice she's growing out of her basket, uhoh. means we need to find a single bed for dd1, move dd2 to the toddler bed and move both older girls to the bigger bedroom. sounds like a lot of work. we'll put it off then a bit longer.

Better go, Harper asleep on my lap (awww), dd's awake but laying in their beds. I may get a chance to get dressed before they get up.

Hope you all have a good day. May be back on later.

OP posts:
sophietom · 07/08/2009 08:13

morning all- hooray for sunny weather we get to dress our babies in the shortie rompers etc we thought we weren't going to get to use!
I'll be taking lots of photos so when I look back in years to come I can fool myself that J's first summer was a gorgeously sunny one

Febes · 07/08/2009 08:40

Momino I have the same problem as R is growing out of his basket and DD is in the cot but at 20 months I don't really feel she is ready to go in the single bed. We have it already and made up for her but I don't want to rush her in there. R will be in our room for some time to come as he is still waking 3 times for feeds. I might put up the travel cot for a bit and see if he sleeps ok in that. I don't think it will be supportive enough for long term so might have to get another cot . I tried DD in the bed the other night but she fell out and then later got out and was standing in the middle of the room when I went up so she was put back in the cot . She is such a good sleeper I don't want to disrupt that at this point. I do hope that DD and DS will share a room when he is sleeping through as SIL is in our 3rd bedroom. Any tips??

Febes · 07/08/2009 08:41

Sophietom DS is in his romper suit- must get the camera out

Jennster · 07/08/2009 08:48

Morning! Sophie Yes we could travel to York together. Would be a lovely day out.

DD2 is on the limit of the 3-6 month shorties, and I'm loathe to buy more in the next size up for all of 5 minutes. dd1 was at least 6 months old when she was wearing them being born in January.

Had a lovely day yesterday. I walked into town, mooched around the libraby for a while looking at gardening books. I'm very happy as I've saved a fortune not buying them. I then bought a bargain dress in Laura Ashley reduced from £99 to £29! It's size 12, I can bf in it and makes me look slim! I'd tried on a button through dress in size14 but it was too tight. I then walked home and ruined all the exercise by raiding the dc treat cupboard.

Jennster · 07/08/2009 08:49

regiee and blotted How awful for you. Hope the dc are ok and you've both stopped worrying.

runningmonkey · 07/08/2009 10:41

Hello!

grumps sounds like you're having a fab time and the move plans sound absolutely fantastic. Please can you make sure your B&B has campervan parking space so we can pop in on our next french adventure?

Tum scary, so glad you are all ok.

Blotted saw your blog link on fb but for some reason couldn't comment. Glad she is ok and hope you are too now.

REg hope you are all ok too. scary stuff.

Don't know where the sunny weather is, it was raining really heavily from about 7pm last night until 4am (I know I was awake when it stopped!) and it is warm now so its all misty as the rain is evaporating. A is in a romper tho, I've been dressing her in them anyway and just adding socks and cardies when its too cold!

Sleep is still going well, A settled in the carrycot at 9pm and slept until just before midnight. Then fed again and slept from 1am until 4am although I woke at 3.30am with a giant spider crawling up my arm . She fed again at 4 then slept form 4.30 until just before 7. So much more manageable, especially since I am going to bed at 9 and DH is keeping her downstairs so I get unbroken sleep for a few hours. I think the fact that she is sleeping longer at night means she gets fuller feeds and then sleeps better again. She is definitely happier despite fighting sleep this morning (now given in and asleep in the bjorn on my chest!)

Today I'm going to try to get some ironing done in anticipation of going on hol next week. It is not my favourite job at all. Also have to make a lentil and spinach curry for the freezer as its my job to do first night dinner on the campsite so thought I would make it in advance then it can defrost on the way there and all I need to do is cook the rice.

Ooh yeah, got back into some pre-preg jeans on Weds too What with my new hair and the extra sleep, I feel like a new woman although am in awe of llare and her magnificent weightloss.

Oops bit of a massive one, have a good day all.

sausagenmash · 07/08/2009 12:00

OMG, have I completely missed 2 whole threads? I've been meaning to come on here for aaaages (have missed you all!) but am so bloody knackered, M is v demanding. Have been stressed up to my armpits, have got PND, trying to organise a wedding (mine!) wwaaaaaah. Also my milk is on its way out, which is breaking my heart, but hey ho. Have been giving a bottle of formula at bedtime, and I expressed last night when she'd gone to bed and got out a measly 20mls. I hope I haven't been starving her. So I'm on my way out to Watford to buy some bottles

I have a spare few hours this afternoon as dp is home from work early and has promised to look after M whilst I MN (honest!) so I will catch up and see whats been going on. Last time I was on here Looby's LO hadn't poo'd for 10 days!

Chat properly later!!

pulapula · 07/08/2009 12:52

sausagenmash- sorry you're having a hard time. I have PND too but have been on ADs for a month and it is much more manageable.

If you are worried about your milk supply (expressing only a little isn't always a sign of milk supply problems as i can sometimes get 200ml out but other times only 5ml if i don't get my letdown) you could buy some fenugreek from a health food shop - it really does work (but don't take too much too quickly or you get engorged).

Momino · 07/08/2009 13:24

sophietom/febes/runningmonkey, before I even read your posts, I'd dressed Harper in her romper suit as well! we all must be on the same train of thought today.

Febes, thanks for reminding me about the travel cot option. completely forgot we had one! I think we'll change her to the travel cot sooner than later.

about putting two DC's together: we'd been on a trip to my family when dd1 was 2 and dd2 was 7 months. staying with my mum, we had to all sleep in the same room anyway. so put dd2 down earlier and, once she was settled, put dd2 in bed. As for the transformation to Big Bed dd1 was 22 months and did get up/fall out but we just put her back, tucked her in and didn't look back. whatever you decide to do, stick with it.

sausagen, good to see you and sorry about your PND. it sounds like you have so much going on (wedding... are you wonder woman? or mad ?) don't worry too much about milk supply and giving bottles. you're doing a good job and doing what you have to do. you're not starving your baby!

Jennster, great find of a dress! about a meet in York, that would be great if you/sophietom could come. How does the end of Aug look for you? I'll let you know when I've posted on FB about it.

running - spider on your arm ! that would seriously ruin my night's sleep. I'm not scared of them but really hate them and would be disturbed for life if I discovered one on my arm in the middle of the night.

had an uneventful morning. filled the old sand table up (sandless now) with water and gave the girls washing up liquid, cloth, dishdrainer and had them wash the dishes from their teaset. they didn't really clean them and ended up having a tea party with bubbly water. was cute nonetheless.

off to the pub tonight with an NCT mum/friend! I'll just have one pint I'm sure but it will be a nice change.

grey skies have gone away and a bit of sun starting to shine. hurrah!

OP posts:
Momino · 07/08/2009 13:28

Febes, meant to say don't disrupt your DD with moving to a bed at this point if you don't feel it's right. Use the travel cot for R as you said. See what DD is like next month and whether she's ready.

OP posts:
Momino · 07/08/2009 13:33

put a photo of Harper and Felix on my profile but reebee, sorry there was something on the camera lens so it's come out too light. If you can make out the babies' faces, Harper is the grumpy one!

OP posts:
Febes · 07/08/2009 14:47

I have put up the travel cot and the moses basket is back in the loft . I'm broody already!! It is sturdier than I thought so will be fine and I won't bother to get another cot- it will be fine for a few months.

I think you are right momino when we decide we will just go for it and stick with it. We are on holiday in the midddle of next month so could try DD in a bed then and continue at home if it works ok. My sister just put her DS in a bed on his second birthday (it was his present ).

DD is poorly so we have done sweet FA today. She had a 2 hour morning nap which she doesn't normally have and I think she is ready for bed again now. She isn't really eating much. Its possibly her eye teeth that are coming through?? They are both asleep now so I will enjoy it while it lasts .
