Sponge, 27+ already! that is going so quickly.

Essie, hope I is better today, J is still feeling poorly and not eating. I offered him a yoghurt earlier and he started crying when I took the top off. Just milk today then I think!

Dh is home late so I can't even look forward to passing sickly, miserable baby on to him. Oh well, hopefully he'll be better tomorrow.

pleasechange · 03/08/2009 12:59

thanks essie, they've a really good range on there. Hadn't thought of them

ktpie · 03/08/2009 13:01

Got confused then as I must have x posted with Essie, wondered what the machine comments were all about! I was planning on getting a treadmill or a rowing machine or something once we moved but then got pregnant so that is on hold. My grand plan was to have a look on ebay with the hope that people would have bought these things, not used them much, then be selling them off cheap. No idea if this theory is correct by the way!
Heard good things about the wii though, and at least it wouldn't take up loads of room and if you hated it could probably be sold on fairly easily, maybe?

Swimwear? The thought of that makes me shudder! Think I am getting to that looking fat not pregnant stage you get before the bump appears, DH doesn't agree, he thinks it is too much cake!

Essie - I like the sound of the Welsh alphabet quilt, how are you going to make it?

Amberc · 03/08/2009 13:07

BDQ - before I forget whilst reading through millions of new posts, I have found our hol through Baby friendly boltholes but we are going to Portugal and booked direct with the hotel. I have found that sites like that are actually more expensive than if you book directly. (Totstoo for instance even with 10% MN discount was more than the hotel direct)

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 13:34

Wii vote here - there are a couple of fitness programmes but some of the games quite energetic too - raving rabbits, wii sport. Edie also loves the graphics and is fascinated by watching me do it.

Thanks for tips- will just fix another appt.

And some success with cow cup and baby knife and fork (helps that scrambled egg on toast is a favourited of the emperor).

Off to see friend for coffee and do some shopping - hope the poorly boys are on the mend .

Essie3 · 03/08/2009 15:34

Poppy I had to re-read your post - 'thanks for the tips...some success with cow cup and baby knife and fork'... Luckily I've now realised the cow cup (which could quite easily be a bf accessory!) and baby knife and fork are nothing to do with the blocked duct.

DebInAustria · 03/08/2009 15:44

Hi everyone, no 2nd viewing today, word from the estate agent is that they want to come some time this week so I'm not feeling quite so positive?

Ali - you are entitled to moan , 14 hour days must be a killer, I don't know how well I would cope, especially with little daytime naps. How's the cutting down on breastfeeding going?

Essie, Ktpie - the Wii is great but I don't use it for fitness just fun!

Poppy - how's the boob today? Can't believe it's still causing problems after all this time.

Whinegums - good luck with the 2nd interview

Can't remember who asked what - so

spoons - I give Ethan loaded spoons and most of the time he can get them to his mouth, but obviously things like mashed potato works better than some things. He doesn't use them himself , he'd rather tip the bowl on the floor and is very good at getting the TT non moveable thing to move!

daytime sleeping - we are very lucky, Ethan sleeps 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon, at night he sleeps 8-6 (ish)

Milk - still doing morning and night bfeeds, and the last 2 afternoons when it's been really hot he's also had an afternoon one. But cows milk he has maybe half a TT cup if that, milk on cereal, cheese but not yoghurts - gone off those for some reason.

MMR tomorrow, how many of you gave calpol before the injection?Any side effects? And also weight check so we'll see if he's put some weight on.

Pouring down here and boys were driving me mad so I've sent them out in the rain to walk their friend home - am I a cruel Mummy?

DebInAustria · 03/08/2009 15:46

Poppy - I had to re-read your post too, I thought you said rampant rabbits for the Wii !!!! I thought I hadn't seen that attachment in the shops!

Amberc · 03/08/2009 16:45

Oh my God Essie - I have just absolutely PMSL at your Anne from Little Britain comment - everyone at work is wondering what I am laughing at 'cos I'm supposed to be busy not reading t'internet!!

By the way re holiday swimwear - I have now bought tankinis from Bravisimo but there is an annoying 2 inch gap where my c section overhang is. Thing is I don't really care that much any more.

I'm just trying to remember what everyone has been talking about so apols if I have missed anything.

Poppy - I would also second Essie's comment to wait until you've seen a doc before doing anything with the milk duct. Does sound like good news though as clearly not a blockage any more.

Sleeping - Luke has a 1.5 - 2 hour sleep (in one nap)at nursery and at weekends he has 2 naps one at about 9.30 for a couple of hours and one later in the car coming back from wherever we have been.

Cups - Luke does like drinking from cups now and will happily drink his fill from an open cup. Thing is he then pours the rest all over himself and the floor. He cannot do anything with a spoon though but I think that's laziness.

oh one thing ww have acquired now which he loves is colouring pens and paper. i have bought a roll of paper and I rip a piece off and I sellotape it to his high chair. We have crayola pens that are super washable and come off with just water and no soap. He goes mad with delight and I can keep him occupied fo about 5 minutes while I warm up his dinner.

Exercise is just something that I am genetically programmed not to do. Have thought about that wii thing but I do know that it would sit under the telly unused.

Wow sponge - there's really not that long to go now!!!

We have put in an offer on a house. Fingers crossed. Essie it's walking distance from Gambardo so we can have a cheeky cuppa in the garden - a garden!!! Saying that though even if they accept it'll be winter by the time we get in there. Deb - hope your second viewing goes well - fingers crossed for you too!!

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 17:45

Lol at deb and essie misreading - seriously rampant rabbits (or raving rabbits as properly known) is ridiculously silly fun.

Amber _ dh reckons not bothering with spoons can be a boy thing as dss was same. Impressed re colouring -e just eats them when I give them to her. But that is no shock given just about anything gets eaten if given. Chance.

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 18:04

Watching bod on DVD- it's bloody odd. You are not telling me LSD want involved in it's making- falling down holes to find strawberries and cream...

Rolf · 03/08/2009 18:43

Your swimsuit link was helpful Essie. I finally braved trying mine on the other day and I was able to get into it (hooray) but it was very very unflattering (it's a horrid Speedo thing) and being a bit snug gives me the most terrific monobosom. We're on holiday on Wednesday and there's steam rooms and stuff, so I need a swimsuit. Not sure how I feel about displaying the monobosom, although it might draw attention away from the hernia/chocolate bulge that is my tummy, and the varicose veins that I generally keep hidden under v long trousers.

Exercise machines - well, I don't have one (not allowed, it would take up space that we could otherwise fill with books/piles of shoite - can you tell that DH and I are really Not Getting On?) but I would like to have a eliptical machine. It's a great workout, easy on the joints and pelvic floor, and a more comfortable movement than running, imo. Could you hire something to see if you use it?

Would it make the room look horrid or would you try and get something that can be folded away? Which residence would you keep it at?

I have also got a hula hoop which I really like although I am not very good at it, and my very competitive DS1 is miles better than me and shows off!

Hello to everyone else. I honestly have read all the posts but I'm knackered and glum and all my jolly responses have fallen out of my head.

PiggyPenguin · 03/08/2009 19:04

Rolf - you sound so down. I've been blubbing at the 'things that make you cry' thread, (why did i read it, why why) and you sound so sad you almost had me going again. Hope things pick up soon.

bitofadramaqueen · 03/08/2009 19:10

Had so much to catch up on I've forgotten who said what! We bought some crayola pencils and will probably buy the washable pens but I think I'm going to let him stick to drawing at nursery for now...

gym equipment, I've got a very dusty lateral thigh trainer, some dumbells and skipping rope, and last night I nearly bought a rebounder aka mini trampoline

ok, I've had my dinner since starting this post so now I really have forgotten everything!

S can eat with a spoon if I load it for him, but he much prefers us to feed him. I usually cut everything into bite size pieces (he usually just haves what we have now) and sometimes he'll feed himself but overall he's quite lazy about it. At what age do you introduce plastic forks or mini metal cutlery?

Last night was first no bottle bedtime. He went down ok but woke a lot in the night. We largely ignored him and he settled himself in under 5 minutes each time, but got up today and spotted one of his back teeth poking through .

That's all I can remember for now!

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 20:01

Aw Rolf - hope you get lots of holiday treats at the spa.

Having miserable evening doing cc with edie- it breaks my heart but she is getting too big to carry around. Trouble is dh and nanny don't won't do it - as I have said before all very well but neither of them here at times like this.

AliPalli · 03/08/2009 20:03

Essie and Deb thanks for the nice words. Feeling much better today.

Allnew yes I did spot "Alypaly" last week. My own fault for being so unimaginative with my name. A while ago I was incredulous that "wickedwaterwitch" started a new thread complaining that someone else had a name that was something like "waterwitchofthewest". Apparently she had "copied" her name and the "www" acronym. Why do people care so much about MN?

I have not BF P before his bath for the last two nights, with no problems (touch wood). I also got tough today and took him out in his pushchair rather than BF him when he woke up wailing from him 35 min nap. He was so loud that my neighbour texted me to apologise for using her vacuum cleaner . By the time we got home he was all smiles . I think I must be getting desperate though as today I registered on contentedtoddler.com. There is some stuff on there about early waking which is interesting. I am still trying to digest it though so can't really distil it meaningfully for you.

Tea has arrived, better go.

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 20:08

Ali glad you are feeling better- I am tempted to register there too but motherswhoneedadrink may be better.

Which reminds me of the cash I wasted while pregnant on joining gina ford website- she could have a horror Story out of me tonight

Upsidedowncake · 03/08/2009 20:32

Hi everyone

Rolf, PMSL re monobosom. Very impressed with Amber's tankini though!

Essie, know what you mean re exercise. But don't underestimate pushing iestyn around and carrying him in your arms. I've done nothing for the last 4 years except push a pram. Have now wrecked my lower back but physio says I am very strong in my legs and arms!

Alipalli, sorry you're nto feeling too good. Re 14 hour days, are you going back to work? Or have you thought about getting a nanny for a morning a week just to get some sanity? I struggled with this but now don't think there's anything to be ashamed of. (Though DH was made redundant before I could put it into practice and now back to work next month.)

Debs, did they say why thye second viewing was delayed? Fingers cossed for you.

Poppy, re milk duct. How long since you stopped BFing? A mate of mine got her knckers in a twist as had a lump 4 months after BFing and it was a blocked duct.

Sponge, 27 weeks! Wow! (Typed Wii by mistake there. Must be suffering from Wii envy!)

Very nicxe to ehar everyone else's little one isn't feeding themselves perfectly. I have to pretend I haven't loaded the spoon for Dorothy. She likes to think she's done it herself and shakes it off if she thinks I've done it! And the NHS keep on telling me to feed her more. But they don't have a little personality to deal with!

DebInAustria · 03/08/2009 20:38

Rolf, I really hope that your holiday is so much better than previous ones and you get to enjoy your spa treats. I bought a tankini from m+S. The top is longer than the picture shows and has a little support for boobs. But I also bought the same size in a lighter blue and the shorts in that colour aren't as big as the dark blue.

The people who looked round want us to get a survey(new here in austria), so it's sounding promising again.

We have guests here in the big apartment(living room next to ours) and they love karaoke , it's Bollywood at the moment and the women are OK but the men have awful voices, it's getting unbearable, so I'm off for a bath!!

bitofadramaqueen · 03/08/2009 20:39

X-posted with lots of people earlier (it did take me about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish of post), so sorry to have missed that you're feeling down Rolf and sending sympathy to you Poppy on the CC front. Re: the nanny refusing to,isn't it her role to parent as you see fit? I don't want to speak out of turn, but surely if it isn't consistent then it undermines your effort? Maybe GF can have a word with her for you

Would you all mind if I shared some cheery news? I tried on my pre-pg jeans and was able to button them (without cutting off the blood supply to my lower body) . Now, when I say pre-pg, that is completely accurate, but I did go up two sizes in the year before pregnancy (largely as a result of comfort eating my way through the two mc's), and there's no way they fit well enough to be seen in public, but it's a start! The last time I tried them on I couldn't get them past my thighs...

amber - good tip on the holiday front. We're still in the research phase so will have a good look at all the options. Can I be nosy and ask you to post where you're staying again? Portugal was one of the places we looked at as it's fairly easy to get a flight from Scotland.

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 20:40

Udc- hi it's been about a year since I quit

Ali- Udc makes good point. I have a mate on your position who puts dd same age as ours with cm a morning a week. She likes time to herself and also wants to avoid prolonged settling in she had with older dc when he went to nursery at 3. Don't we all get some kind of voucher for nursery soonish (ie when kids are two)?

poppy34 · 03/08/2009 20:45

Yay re jeans bdq- and yes you are right re nanny as she did try but found it didn't work as e kept crying and fell asleep on her during one of time out visits ( bit like tonight as e asleep now). I could as you see force the iSsue but that doesn't solve dh (when he is here) plus to give nanny her due , she is doing great work on feeding, general routine etc. And also was of view that had tried to force it re sleeping with last charge but to no avail.

So am no further forward really - oh and mil rang in a state as selling her house and says she has done something stupd

vivaGlasvegas · 03/08/2009 20:47

hi all
I have a miserable little girl - I think there are at least three teeth coming through and C is not happy. she's been spiking temps on and off had a horrific nappy and has been sick twice in the last 24 hours I'm trying to put it all down to the teeth, as we had been to visit my friend and her brand new little tiny baby this morning, shortly before she started to look unwell - am horrified that I may have taken my viral vector to visit a newborn [cringe] someone tell me it's all teething related please...

I am on call tonight though (granny and DH are both at home with the grotster) am currently sitting in hospital waiting for a patient to arrive for a CT scan. They were supposed to be here by 2015 so am getting bored now.

We've had a bad weekend family wise, as firstly my cousin's 17 year old daughter was in a bad car crash and has a broken vetebrae. She's in the spinal unit in Glasgow and may be having surgery, either way she is immobilised on bed rest for 6/8 weeks. She's been transferred to Glasgow from her local hospital about 30 miles away, and my poor cousin has a 4 year old and a 1 year old at home to contend with. send her get well wishes please.

While all this was being digested by my family, my elderly great uncle who's been getting confused of late had a fall at home and had to get taken into the local hospital by ambulance. His son who lives with his parents to look after them went in with him, and by the time he got back home, his mother had fallen and broken her hip - bringing in her neighbours wheelie bin. honestly.

that makes three, so hopefully no-one else is due an injury, my grandparents wouldn't be able to take the stress. they're already up to high doe trying to figure out how to get to visit them all by public transport.

sorry for the self-centred post, no doubt i'll be stuck here again waiting for a patient in the middle of the night, and will therefore have time to catch up and comment on everything!

bitofadramaqueen · 03/08/2009 20:50

That's such a shame you cant get DH to support you in it poppy. I hope you're night isn't too unbearable for too long.

Essie3 · 03/08/2009 21:22

Oh my God, Viva, that all sounds horrible! (Although I must say I was most shocked about your poor cousin who took one to hospital when the other manages to end up there too. Poor guy!)

Rolf sorry you're feeling down. Hopefully the holiday will help? Is this the holiday in Ireland?
I'm probably going to hire a treadmill, and you can get all sorts - this was the best website. Well, the only one because I'm in Wales. It's the main residence... The Reebok one folds up small. Think I will have a body like Davina McCall in 8 weeks? (I'm favouring Davina because most celebrities have bigger boobs than mine and it would be surgery.)

Hi UDC!!

Watching the Eisteddfod here tonight (going on Thursday - must indoctrinate Iestyn!) and it's a big shakeup in the Crown competition! My God, it's thrilling!
