all well here in the stripey household - we were in italy, nothing bad...

moose, sorry to hear about bereavement, hope your dsis is doing alright. and argh re teething, you too, pat; not looking forward to it in the slightest. re clinginess, my niece was quite clingy with my sister at about 4-5 months and now c is showing signs of this as well, so maybe it's just developmental. niece well over it by now, at nine months. your morning sounds like it was lovely though, so sweet that dd got all excited in the bath

tree, so sorry to hear about your dh's friend; he is lucky to have you to talk to and support him, and hope the counselling helps.

sparkle - re dp, bet he hasn't lost 8lbs anytme recently... and i have to say, wish i had... think moose was talking about a sugar detox? this is the only kind of diet i've ever been on, can't be doing with calorie counting but not eating things with sugar in doesn't take much mental energy and it totally works if you can get through the first two or three days (refined sugar is quite addictive, i think). maybe it's time, certainly i am starting to loathe all mirrors and holiday snaps are all a complete fright...

rray - you are flying shortly? c took it in her stride and even though it was shockingly hot in siena, more or less coped with the heat. i think we wouldn't have gone if we'd realised it was going to be so hot, heatwave going on so it was around 30 degrees when we thoguht it would be in the low twenties. we got back yesterday evening and she has been asleep for most of today, poor little girl is wrecked. exceedingly pleased to be home, i think...

she worked out how to roll while we were away, but doesn't really seem interested in it, is still furiously trying to crawl. we can't leave her too long on her tummy because she exhausts herself trying to move forward until she is actually crying - from frustration or the effort she is making, i'm not sure which...

dog, re chickenpox, your poor little ones

hi to everyone i've missed (pages of chat...) - elkie, we also have what i think of as pissy cats - i sympathise. they never really got to like one another at all so every so often, there are territorial disputes which result in cat pee - and then there's the cat who belongs to someone else who includes our front door in his rounds. bastard.

hi stripey - waves glad all well

PatTheHammer · 27/05/2009 16:55

moose- just writing out my list mate...wholemeal pasta check.......what NO BREAD.....arrrrggghhhh. Rye bread ok? Gonna do this even though I hate porridge, any alternative brekkie suggestions welcome .
Your morning sounds lush, what lovely DS's you have! We are still at the 'pretending to love Zach but squeezing him too hard whilst giving him a cuddle stage'. Glad your DD likes the cha-cha slide, took her mind off teething I bet.

On that subject, think second tooth will be anytime soon, can see its nearly ready, Eeeek

Big wave to Stripey, hope you had a great holiday. Soooo , I love Italy, went on our honeymoon to The lakes and Venice, twas lovely. Glad c coped well, you are v.brave!!

Tink off to check out the pics of Brackens room. Sounds lovely

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Think we have a canny one here. Was just lying on the playmat with dd when she put her hand out to hold mine (its one of her current cutey behaviours) so I gave her my hand and she used it to lever herself over onto her tummy. Then she rolled back onto her back again with a self satisfied grin. This was subsequently repeated about five times then the sixth time she did it on her own without my hand (and promptly threw up all over the playmat - lovely)! I think the times she's rolled in her cot she was actually asleep when she did it, so its her first waking roll iyswim. She's not particularly confident at it though and every now and again she seems to forget to bring her top leg over first and gets cross because she's stuck half way but she's definitely getting the idea now.

Pat have just checked, Tesco rye bread contains sugar, but Biona organic and Schneider German (which they also sell) don't so it's probably a case of reading the label. Muesli would be ok for breakfast as long as you check the label and avoid the dried fruit (concentrated natural sugar again). If you are having fruit then you are ok to do natural yoghurt and fresh fruit for breakfast as well. Alternatively, boiled or scrambled eggs with rye bread toast?

By the way, just noticed Handy Manny on the tv playlist, not seen it before so dd and I just watched it - no offence but I think I like Rusty best because he's a big woos (sp?) like me and when they said "is there anything you're not afraid of?" his answer was "yes, cake" I can identify with that.

Hats off to those who are detoxing. Does it help you lose weight or just flush out your system? Am trying to lose 1/2 stone before my wedding, but not trying very hard...might just have to resort to wearing magic knickers

Have booked appointment to get a coil fitted tomorrow. Am a bit nervous, has anyone had this done before, does it hurt? Do you feel a bit crap afterwards?

Stripey Holiday sounds great, would love some 30 degree heat today, glad C enjoyed it.

Tink Very stylish bedrooms in your house, great pics!

Pat can't understand what it is about men and quiche, bunch of weirdos. When I was at uni my housemates considered yoghurt the ultimate unmanly food...who know why..

moosemama · 27/05/2009 18:45

It doesn't so much detox, as help to restabilise your blood sugar levels and as a result stop the sugar cravings. Once they are under control it makes dieting easier, as you aren't so tempted by the bad stuff and as long as you continue to eat healthily, you won't have those awful lows and post sugar crashes.

For me its about breaking the evening sugar binge cycle, as I tend to collapse on the sofa in the evenings and don't feel relaxed until I've had some chocolate or other sugary item.

I do tend to lose weight, probably just from stopping the sugar as I am well and truly addicted to the stuff, but also because I start walking a lot at the same time, partly to get fit but also as a distraction from the cravings. I went down two dress sizes last time, but that was by starting off with the sugar ban and continuing to eat healthily and walk a minimum of 12,000 steps a day for 4 months.

PatTheHammer · 27/05/2009 19:23

Nah, Rusty is such a sap! My personal fave is Turner, he's such a cynic! But alas 'turner the screwdriver' didn't have quiet the same ring to it. Pat is just such a chump, and so clumsy, just like me and DD! Well done with the rolling, Zach goes all over the place during nappy free time in the evening, tis quiet funny to watch, especailly with his little ball-bag wedged in between his gi-nourmous thighs

Right off to buty some rye bread and museli at the w/end. I was thinking fish, rice and salad or vegetables most evenings as its easy and I can vary the fish or veggies for a bit of choice. Luckily have an ultra busy week next week, so no moping around munching on snacks. But the evenings, arrrggghh thats gonna be so hard. Thinking of getting an exercise dvd to do in evenings and a friend has expressed interest in swimming one evening a week so may start that soon when Zach is a bit more reliable. 2 dress sizes sounds fab though, may ditch the car for a while!

HKZ good luck with coil. I don't have any personal experience but my mum has one and she says its great. On the other hand my friend said hers took ages to settle down. So not sure really, guess it will be fine. I need something long term, keeping durex in business at the moment, just too lazy to sort it out

hongkongzoe · 27/05/2009 19:26

That makes complete sense. I eat tons of crap sugary stuff at the moment, just to keep me going. I am such a chocolate addict. Two dress sizes in four months is pretty impressive. I think I need to get on with the whole fitness thing too and start doing my fair share of the dog walking again. I just want rid of that bit of baby flab at the bottom of my tummy and to tone up a bit.

DS crying, better go...

rrrayray · 27/05/2009 19:46

Oh lordy, am feeling more and more out of touch on thread!

Stripey No- not flying- Eurostar to Disney. 30 Degrees sounds bliss for me...not so sure about Esme!

missj Grrr at MIL.

stripeywoollenhat · 27/05/2009 20:18

rray - yes, i appreciated the 30 degrees but it was pretty hard on c - they aren't any good at controlling their own temperatures, and most of her clothes are jersey cotton which is too heavy for that temperature - so a lot of time only wearing a nappy, we bought a very light loose gingham cotton playsuit, and sponged her with cold water from time to time. we think we will leave it till she's well over a year before going anywhere that hot again. (it never gets to thirty degrees in ireland. never gets much above twenty, really )

stripeywoollenhat · 27/05/2009 20:24

hkz - i've lost weight when i've done the no sugar thing, as all the food i eat that i shouldn't has sugar in it. but it's only processed sugar i avoid, not a complete detox. (i continue to eat fruit, i mean)

EachPeachPearMum · 27/05/2009 22:48

Lol- moose I'm not afraid of cake either!

Well DH is in touch with his feminine side- he loves quiche, likes salad, and eats pints of yoghurt a week! He is european though...
(does anyone remember Eurotrash and the "gay or european" feature?)
He does have a daddy tummy though atm... or Papa tummy as we would say.
He is v skinny though- a few years ago, the dr told him he needed to put 2.5 stones on.

Wish I had that problem...

Hope it was a good holiday stripey- I loved Siena, but it is a long time since I went.

After Pat's comment... could I ask a question of those who have boys?.... how big (or rather, small) are their scrotums (scrota, I suppose, pedants) DS' seems tiny... certainly wouldn't get to between his thighs, even when he's on his front. He had an undescended testicle at birth, but it came down at around 5 weeks.

PatTheHammer · 28/05/2009 07:55

LOL EPPM, glad you asked because they fascinate me! DS's was quite big at birth and although it is now more in proportion it is still quite large. I heard that they are sometimes quite enlarged until about 6 months after birth. Now his winkle on the other hand, that does look quite small to me........God, hope he never reads this when older........looks a bit like a little piece of macaroni on top of a big walnut!

pmsl- ds is the other way round... a piece of penne on top of half a walnut
his were never enlarged, presumably because I never went into labour this time round.

hi

poor you dog with pox 2

cheers hong kong

elkiedee · 28/05/2009 10:09

I must admit I've not tried to compare my sons' anatomy to that of other baby and toddler boys. I don't think either D's or C's would be between their thighs, is that not something that happens later?

EachPeachPearMum · 28/05/2009 11:51

Oh dog- sorry- x-posted earlier... so crappy if you are getting pox too
Is piriton safe when bf?

treedelivery · 28/05/2009 12:53

Oh Dog! Pants!

DH has been made redundant. Here we go again.

dog terrible if you've got pox too, it's really bad for adults isn't it? Glad your Dad is coming over to help.

MM bath time with 3 kids sounds lovely!
