Feels like I've been away from this thread for ages, but must only be a couple of days - anyway, as usual, lots to catch up on!

stripey must have been lovely to see C find her feet - how sweet. Lenni mentioned something about a photo of her in her itti's - is it on fb? Must look... I think we are going to buy ittis here, just waiting until we move (next weekend).

MM furniture shopping sounds like fun.

tree how's the co-sleeping v feeding upright going? We did two nights of feeding properly, and it definitely helped - but then last night was too tired to bother so took him into bed for a feed at 1am, and he didn't wake up again until 6am - so just goes to show there is no real pattern!

Lenni DS's 'routine' sounds lovely - 2.5 hrs naps! And two of them! Wow... Good luck with potty training.

fym love those little tummy tubs - but can see how they would grow out of them quickly.

I've bought a bumbo which should arrive next week, so we'll see what that's like - Nye's neck is really getting strong now, and today I was using the moby wrap to carry him around facing forwards (I think it's the lotus hold for fellow moby-owners - MM?) and he was very happy.

Had friends over from Bristol with their 15 month old - almost exactly one year older than Nye - just crazy to think that this time last year we were peeing on tester sticks, and this time next year our LOs will be eating real food and toddling around!

Am soooo tired after OH made me stay up until midnight to watch some crappy film. But nice to cuddle up. My sister was staying and when Nye woke up this morning at 7.30am I took him into her, and she looked after him until 9am, leaving us to lie in together... heaven. But still knackered.

hi

lenni - sale sound good

potty training will be fun
when we potty trained dd1 had her in pampers easy ups for abit and put potty in a corner in the loundge to see what she would do.
would also take her up with me to loo when i went so she could watch what i was doing an would talk through it 2.
also had a potty training book and chart
then when she seemed ready tried her in pants in house then eventually out always preferred sitting on big loo on a toilet training padded seat.
also bought mothercare portable potty a must is excellent folds flat and uses liners.

hi miss j

dd1 had a bumbo they r good
your time with friends sounds good

fymmumoftwo · 03/05/2009 19:41

potty Training if they're ready it isn't too hard - we just took DS's nappy off (had already had the potty a while and told him what it was for, read a potty book with him, girls version also available)

He wee'd on his feet once then started using the potty. I left it 2 or 3 days before putting him in pants - he pooed in his pyjamas once as he forgot he didn't have his nappy on but overall the only accidents we've had have been recently since DS2 came along....he was trained almost a year ago at 2.4yrs.

if it's hard work it's probably too soon! BUT the older they get the harder to train so don't leave it too long...

PS don't try to night train at the same time, girls sometimes are dry at night but boys definitely aren't.

I'd second the portable potty! very good

treedelivery · 03/05/2009 19:47

dd trained herself at 2.11 - but wears a night nappy at 4.6. I'll let her decide when it's time for it t o go like with the day time ones.

Rather hope it's soon though.....

It was Elkie picnic wasn't it. Hope it went well Elk

So, where is Dog? On the 2010 thread.....?

LenniEd · 03/05/2009 22:10

Yes Dog - where are you??

Well - we are on day one of potty training and have had two accidents but her first wee on the big toilet. She seems ready as she is asking to wear knickers and doesn't want her nappy on. But think it will take a few days before she gets the hang of asking in time. Need to be more proactive I think - your plan of putting them on potty every 15mins sounds great Books - think I'll do that tomorrow.

Off to investigate portable potty....

Thanks for the help.

Hi

Just skip read thread really quickly. But huge post here anyway ...

Yes, it did make me feel physically sick when we found out about the rent mix up. Fortunately DH has just had his quarterly bonus so we can pay one month off straight away and they have agreed to let us pay of the rest in installments. That said I have still spent the whole of today in a foul mood and feeling all anxious and tense with that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. Ah well, its only money isn't it - suppose we just have to get on with it.

Been at a vw show at Stanford Hall in Northamptonshire today. Weather was gorgeous, DH and the boys had a great time but my mood was very low and I was not pleasant to be around. We always go to this particular show, but missed it last year and it has doubled if not tripled in size and lost all its atmosphere. It was way too crowded and not easy to negotiate with 2 boys, 1 dog and the big 3-wheeler buggy (which I needed as it was in a field). At one point I was so busy trying to avoid an idiot who was cutting across the carpark instead of following the main route that my front wheel went down a big hole in the field and the whole buggy nearly tipped over - some really nice ladies ran to help me catch it, but I was really grateful I'd bought such a sturdy buggy and that dd was strapped into the carseat.

Feel awful now as DH says I've been horrible all day and I know I wasn't at all nice to DS1 who was having a ditsy dolly/daydream day and kept getting under my feet, walking into other people and stepping out in front of camper vans. Then he ended up being really naughty at tea time and was sent up to bed without finishing his food - he was up there screaming the house down for half and hour and DH took him a glass of milk and a piece of toast in the end but I didn't get to go and make up with him before he fell asleep because I was feeding dd.

I think part of my mood is down to lack of sleep. DD has started being very restless and noisy at night. She isn't waking up, just rolling around the crib and grunting and snuffling a lot, along with jamming herself up against the side rail and then getting in a panic so that I have to move her back into the middle. Its not even as if its a tiny crib, the mattress is the same width as a standard travel cot so there's plenty of room in there. In the end I swapped sides with DH last night as I was so exhausted, but he just slept through her anyway and I ended up getting out of bed and walking round to the crib to reposition her. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now and I'm barely getting any sleep at all so I suppose its logical I'm feeling so rough.

It seems we have now settled into a pattern of pooing every other day, although I never know what time of day she is going to do it and she always needs stripping down and cleaning from top to bottom afterwards, which is not good if we are out and about! Never experienced this before, the boys were a poo a feed lads and she was always a daily morning pooer prior to all this.

Sorry, seem to have been a bit obsessed with dds bowels this week haven't I - I'll shut up about them now!

Elkie hope pinic was a success.

Dog go on - pee on a stick - you know you want to really! (read - you know we want you to really)

Books well done with the potty training and good luck with it Lenni. We went straight to the toilet with the boys avoiding the potty altogether as neither of them liked it, but that was easy for us as we have a downstairs loo and a tiny house so it was never far to run! We also waited until they were a bit older (about 3 I think, maybe just under) and dry after nap times as a guide to when they were ready, can't remember much more than that though - its all a bit hazy to be honest. Guess I'll need to read up about it all over again for dd!

Stripey ah its lovely when you witness one of their lightbulb moments isn't it and rolling over! She'll be off before you know it! DD has been so close to rolling over this week. She just loses it on the very last little bit and falls back then gets really cross with herself, its really funny to watch! She is loving tummy time now though, since someone recommended using a feeding pillow (or in our case dinoroar toy for her to lean across).

moosemama · 03/05/2009 22:15

See told you it was a huge post!!

LenniEd · 03/05/2009 22:24

MM - understandable that you are feeling a bit low if you aren't sleeping. It really does make the world of difference. I found DS was all out of a routine with everything a couple of weeks back and we're also having poo issues with him but he is back on track with the sleep now (not quite got the poo down!) so perhaps it is just a phase that they go through around that age. His growth spurt threw him out.

DD doesn't nap but otherwise that would be a good sign, she is rarely wet in the mornings now when she gets up, although she totally soaks a nappy within 30 mins of getting out of bed so I think she's got fairly good control now. If it doesn't work I'll just wait another month or so. She's 2.4 now so about the right kind of time.

chefswife · 03/05/2009 22:37

tinkishappy i'm on the west coast of Canada and its spring. no burning at end of summer; to dry. besides, its good for your garden to let the foliage debris do its thing over the winter. ps. i'm having a quiet day as well... hmmmmm (slouchy emoticon)

lenniEd don't knock potty training DS now, or at least when he is able to sit up on a basic potty. i'm starting DD on it in the next couple of weeks; she'll be 5 months. it worked for two mothers i know and the LO's were out of diapers at 1 year! wouldn't that be awesome... mind you, i work from home and only have DD, so have all the time in the world to do it. its apparently going to be interesting.

maybe all of you in potty training now could lend some tips for us newbies so we can be prepared.

chefswife · 03/05/2009 22:43

or funny stories about your potty training experiences.

treedelivery · 03/05/2009 22:58

Hi Moose - hope tonight is the begining of something magic [say, 4 hours unbroken sleep]
I wish for my bed to myself, or dh at the most.
Here is our night time thought/wish/prayer..

FAO: whatever you believe in. Please send us some sleep. Good sleep where our ears turn off and our muscles relax. Cheers.

lots of potty training on
here

treedelivery · 04/05/2009 10:56

Morning - flying stop. Sounds like a lovely day Dog, feel the same about my dh. He is back cycling which is a big relief. They need an outlet.

Tink - enjoy decorating and fluffing all your lovely purchases. Such fun. Dh is. IS IS going to put carpet down in the playhouse today. Its painted inside now [yellow]. Just outside and decking, it needs another window putting in too......still. Carpet. Start small.

Enjoy bank holiday. It's sooooo great not to be on a long day at the hospital missing all the family time

missjackson · 04/05/2009 11:31

Morning - you all sound like you're busy with decorating and potty training! tree your comment reminded me to appreciate the fact that I too am home today rather than on some crazy 16 hour shift... sometimes I forget what hell it could be, and just look back with rose-tinted glasses, missing my friends and the fun times...

MM I am the same with LO in cot next to me; I just hear every snuffle, and am now wondering if it might be best to move him into his own room. I didn't plan to until 6 months, but tbh I don't think it matters to him whether we are next to him or not - he sleeps fine by himself for the first part of the evening when we're downstairs. If he was in the next room, I would hear him cry, but not snuffle... hmm, will have a think, not sure I am ready to (a) give up my baby next to me, and (b) get up and do night feeds! I know you have other issues though with E's breathing so maybe not even a thought for you yet.

dog hurry up and do that test already! I woke up this morning and thought, I wonder if dog has done her test!

Elkie how was the picnic? I bet you had glorious weather.

Nye waking up, gotta go... have a fun day everyone x

treedelivery · 04/05/2009 11:42

...fun times...?

Hmmm, explain this term...?

Just had a rant on bf topic about being a midwife. Quite unusual for me

rrrayray · 04/05/2009 12:27

hello all.

my goodness i can't even keep up with you ladies.

Hope your all well?

Need to pick your brains....

Ok, so My LO has always been a GEM of a sleeper, and has been for the last month or so sleeping 7pm-4am (quick feed, only one side)- 7am. But... the last 3 nights have been well, she wasnt even like this when she was a newborn. She has been waking 3-4 times. Oh has tried settling her, only for her to wake up 10 mins later, so is obviously genuinely hungry.

Am completely bemused by this sudden switch in doing a 7-8 hour stint, followed by a 3-4 hour one to now waking every 2 1/2- 3 hours throughout the night. I had put it down to a growth spurt, but i think its continued longer than a growth spurt.

She seems to be showing all the signs of needing to WEAN already!!!!!! she is only 14 weeks! I'm VERY much not wanting to do this... as my HV said the current guidelines are b/c the gut has been shown in studies to not be ready for food until at least 20 weeks, the closer to 26 weeks the better, and early weaning also have links with allergies!!!!!!

I'm just going to continue doing what i'm doing until Wed when Esme has a weigh in at the baby clinic and i can pick the HV's brains then... but i wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same thing/ Could shed any light on it?

I'm totally knackered!!!

rrrayray · 04/05/2009 12:28

oh... and my mother also suggested teething, as she hasn't changed her day time patterns. But she doesn't really have any signs of Teething, yes she chews on her hands, but that seems more for soothing & exploring than anything else. No Rosy Cheeks, or sharp gums from what i can see?!

treedelivery · 04/05/2009 12:32

Ray - she's probably increasing your milk supply. Might be going to put a load of weight on or have adevelopment spurt. You have these and then the wek later they do something [roll, reach, sit] and it's like 'a-haaaaa'

Leave her too it, bear with it and it will pass. Knackering though. It's short lived and you won't ruin her.

missjackson · 04/05/2009 12:48

ray you could try feeding her more often in the day even if she's not looking for it? Does she usually just feed from one side? During Nye's latest growth spurt I gave him a break after one boob, then offered the other, and he would take a good amount on round 2!

I just weighed Nye (unscientifically on my scales, first me alone, then me holding Nye) and if my maths is correct, he is weighing 16lbs at 13.5 weeks. So he has nearly doubled his birth weight (8lbs8oz)! As for me, 3 kilos less than pre-pg - despite eating cake at teatime, and pudding at dinner EVERY DAY. And choc biscuits with my morning tea! But not sure where the weight loss is occurring as my tummy is still like jelly! ray how is the wii fit going?

We've had a lovely lazy morning, I slept in while Nye had his morning nap, and then we had a bath together. OH is out riding but we are joining him for lunch in the pub.

tinkishappy · 04/05/2009 16:27

tree - cheers have decided on pretty pink for the walls in brackens room

rray could be a growth spurt. hope she goes back to bsleeping more soon.
think bracken is teething she has red cheeks, is dribbling and chewing lots
seems 2 be struggling to drink bottles

rrrayray · 04/05/2009 18:01

i had thought growth spurts usually were only 48 hours in length? her previous ones have definately been MUCH shorter!

tree Hoping VERY much it will pass. How is H doing?

Tink Hope Teething isn't bothering Bracken too much! comes around so quickly. i can't believe our little bubbas will have teeth soon! ouch! MissJ I have been offering Esme both sides recently with a nappy change in the middle. I don't know what Esme weighs these days. I think i should get on the Wii fit and weigh her really. She has a weigh in Wednesday morning- will know then!!!

Wii fit... Well, was doing well, but haven't been near it the past week or so!!!!

to hear weight dropped off you so much! I'm about a stone over what i was... but that said, i think ALOT of that is boobs!!!! Seem to have sort of Levelled off. In most of pre-preg clothes, so not too bothered. That said, i was 7 3/4 stone about the time i fell preg due to stress of final uni exams & working out LOTS everyday as a stress release.

Right, better go and bath the little pickle & hope for the best tonight.
